Metriport builds an open-source interoperability platform for healthcare that acts as a universal API to access patient data. It connects with major health information networks (CommonWell, Carequality), EHRs, pharmacies, and labs to retrieve complete patient records — including histories, medications, labs, and allergies — through a single connector. The data is standardized into formats like FHIR R4, de-duplicated, and summarized with AI-driven clinical summaries. A no-code provider dashboard and developer tools support integration, while the open-source foundation lets customers host the code themselves to avoid vendor lock-in. Revenue comes from a sliding scale pricing model based on patient volume and data type. Metriport’s goal is to simplify and streamline access to fragmented medical data, effectively creating an “internet for healthcare data” for digital health companies, clinicians, and health systems.

Simplify's Take

What believers are saying

  • Metriport launched FHIR Transforms for Snowflake, BigQuery, and Redshift on 2026-07-01.
  • Its 2026 site highlights real-time notifications, AI summaries, and growing EHR apps.
  • Updated docs on 2026-07-15 show active product investment and shipping velocity.

What critics are saying

  • Epic, Oracle Cerner, and EHR app stores can commoditize data access by 2027.
  • Metriport still serves authorized treatment workflows, limiting payer and patient expansion today.
  • Open-source code lowers switching friction, risking customers replacing Metriport with self-hosted forks.

What makes Metriport unique

  • Open-source Medical API reduces lock-in and supports customer-hosted deployments.
  • Metriport unifies CommonWell, Carequality, EHRs, labs, pharmacies, and FHIR R4.
  • Clinician Interface and EHR apps embed records directly inside workflow.
