Wordsmith AI is an in-house legal platform that acts as a central intake and workflow for all legal requests across a business. It auto-triages and routes requests based on priority, revenue impact, and jurisdiction, pulling context from tools like Salesforce, Slack, and Ironclad to draft redlines and flag issues, then records the outcome back in the originating system. It learns a team’s standards so routine matters are resolved automatically, with only complex issues reaching lawyers; it covers contract review and drafting, an AI assistant, AI agents, reporting, repositories, legal research, and intake, with integrations to Word, Slack, Microsoft 365, and MCP. Its goal is to speed up turnaround, reduce outside counsel spend, and make the legal operation more efficient and auditable.

Wordsmith AI raises $14m extension to their Series B. * August 5, 2026 Edinburgh founded legal AI company Wordsmith AI today announced a $14m extension to their $70m Series B, led by new investment from Intact Private Capital alongside existing investors Highland Europe and Index Ventures. FT Ventures has also become a shareholder in Wordsmith. Founded in 2023 by CEO Ross McNairn, CTO Volodymyr Giginiak and COO Robbie Falkenthal, Wordsmith focuses exclusively on corporate legal departments rather than law firms. Its platform uses AI agents to organise, route and complete legal work across the business, integrating with systems such as email, Slack, Microsoft Teams and Salesforce to automate routine legal tasks and enable legal teams to handle more work internally. The additional investment is said to follow a period of rapid growth for Wordsmith. Revenue has grown 14x year over year and the platform is now used by more than 500 companies, including BT, FT, Sage, Starling, Canva, and Safelite. It is anticipated that the funding will deepen Wordsmith's presence in North America, where demand from enterprise legal teams is accelerating, and strengthens its footprint in the financial services and insurance sectors. Justin Smith-Lorenzetti, managing director at Intact Private Capital, said: "In-house legal teams at financial services and insurance companies need legal infrastructure that can operate at enterprise scale while maintaining the control and auditability required in highly regulated environments. Wordsmith is built precisely for that challenge, with a deep understanding of how these organizations work and the infrastructure to match."

The additional capital will support the company's continued expansion in the legal technology market.
Wordsmith extends Series B with investment from Intact Private Capital and FT Ventures. Intact Private Capital and FT Ventures join as new investors, as enterprises bring more legal work in-house and reduce reliance on outside counsel New York and Edinburgh [August 5] - Wordsmith AI today announced a $14 million extension to their Series B, led by new investment from Intact Private Capital alongside existing investors Highland Europe and Index Ventures. FT Ventures has also become a shareholder in Wordsmith. The additional investment follows a period of rapid growth for Wordsmith. Revenue has grown 14x year over year and the platform is now used by more than 500 companies, including BT, FT, Sage, Starling, Canva, and Safelite. The funding deepens Wordsmith's presence in North America, where demand from enterprise legal teams is accelerating, and strengthens its footprint in the financial services and insurance sectors. Unlike legal AI startups serving both law firms and corporate legal departments, Wordsmith is built exclusively for in-house legal teams. Wordsmith believes the two markets require fundamentally different products: while law firms manage external matters and operate around billable hours, in-house teams need to resolve more work internally, control outside counsel spend, and provide faster support to every part of the business. "Intact Private Capital is excited to support Wordsmith at this stage of growth," said Justin Smith-Lorenzetti, Managing Director at Intact Private Capital. "In-house legal teams at financial services and insurance companies need legal infrastructure that can operate at enterprise scale while maintaining the control and auditability required in highly regulated environments. Wordsmith is built precisely for that challenge, with a deep understanding of how these organizations work and the infrastructure to match." Enterprises serving more than 10,000 employees are running on Wordsmith today. Customers are seeing seven-figure savings in outside counsel spend in the first weeks of use. Teams that previously spent 70 to 80 percent of their week on routine work are reclaiming that time for higher-value matters. Regulatory and multi-jurisdiction questions that once went straight to external counsel are now handled in-house first, with outside support reserved for where it genuinely adds value. "Wordsmith's solutions for in-house legal teams are rethinking not only how lawyers work, but also how commercial and legal teams engage with each other," said Alexandra Calinikos, Chief Investment Officer at FT Ventures. "FT's own in-house legal team has chosen Wordsmith as its enterprise legal AI platform, providing the FT's business faster access to legal support. Alongside this operational relationship, FT Ventures is excited to support Wordsmith in their next phase of growth as they deliver the infrastructure to make legal work more efficient for businesses globally." "Every dollar that leaves a legal team and goes to outside counsel is a decision," said Ross McNairn, CEO and co-founder of Wordsmith. "Too often, those decisions are made by default rather than by design, because legal teams have never had the infrastructure to handle the work internally. Wordsmith gives them that infrastructure. Requests come in, AI agents complete the routine work, lawyers approve what requires judgment, and every step is recorded. The result is a legal function that keeps more work in-house, spends less on external counsel, and can finally show the business the impact it delivers." About Wordsmith AI Wordsmith is the new standard for in-house legal. Its system of action codifies a legal team's judgment and carries work from request to resolution: receiving requests from across the business, routing them with context, resolving routine work with AI agents and approved playbooks, bringing in lawyers when judgment is needed, and recording every step as work happens. Wordsmith is built for in-house legal teams that need to move at the speed of the business while maintaining trust, control, and defensibility. Introducing the Wordsmith Privacy Office. Privacy work rarely arrives neatly packaged. There are records of processing to maintain, DPIAs to complete and DSARs that have a habit of landing late on a Friday. Today, Wordsmith is launching the Privacy Office: a collection of tools and agents designed specifically for privacy and compliance teams. It brings together the solutions and agents Wordsmith AI Ltd has been building at Wordsmith, from multi document redaction to DSAR management and data breach handling. Each one built by Wordsmith AI Ltd, to help you meet your privacy obligations. The Privacy Office has been shaped by teams at Trustpilot, Remote and Kantar, which have spent the past several months building and testing privacy workflows in Wordsmith. At Trustpilot, Wordsmith is embedded across the legal teams within the Trust function, including for several privacy related applications. "From an intake form that triages and answers queries from the wider business, to Slack integrations that let commercial teams self-serve against due diligence questionnaires, we've saved upwards of 50% of our time in some cases, improved the quality and consistency of our output, and empowered our colleagues to focus on higher value work." Andrew Farquhar, VP of Legal, Privacy & AI and DPO, Trustpilot At Remote, the data protection team is using Wordsmith across several privacy workflows: "The data protection team uses Wordsmith to answer internal privacy queries directly in Slack, drawing on their own FAQ knowledge base so the team reviews and adapts rather than starting from scratch. Their LIAs, DPIAs and Transfer Impact Assessments now come together as structured first drafts, with a human reviewing before anything is finalised. Next, they're looking at using Wordsmith to extract data categories, purposes and retention terms from vendor DPAs at the contracting stage, keeping their ROPA live rather than reviewing it periodically." Yancho Yanchev, Managing Legal Counsel, Remote And at Kantar, Wordsmith runs the governance process itself: "A custom Skill drafts every governance document to the same standard, so consistency and audit-readiness are baked in from the first draft, not bolted on later. Our horizon-scanning Agent watches regulatory developments and links them straight back to the specific documents they affect. Wordsmith is quietly turning our governance framework into a system that mostly looks after itself." Viviane Rabe von Pappenheim, Senior Legal Counsel, Kantar The Privacy Office is launching today, Over the coming months, Wordsmith will add more ready to use privacy workflows to the product. If you're a Wordsmith customer looking to build new privacy workflows, get in touch with its Head of Privacy, Ben Martin, who's built tools for ROPAs, DPIAs and DSARs that customers are already using.
