Requirements
  • 4+ years of experience with full-stack engineering skills for developing front-end web applications with server-side components
  • Technical proficiency and at least three years of experience developing applications with machine-learning models
  • 2+ years of experience working with large-language and transformer models
  • Evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of different forms of generative A.I.
Responsibilities
  • Build prototypes that utilize machine-learning techniques for the betterment of The Times news report
  • Work day-to-day with the A.I. Initiatives Team and collaborate with the larger A.I. team and other desks in the newsroom to assess the value of each prototype and help determine those worth pursuing further
  • Stay up-to-date on the latest A.I. research and model development, to help inform the team’s work and spread technical proficiency throughout the organization
  • Report to the Editorial Director for A.I. Initiatives as well as the Interactive News team
Desired Qualifications
  • Knowledge of machine-learning frameworks and experience training and fine-tuning machine-learning models
  • Experience in a newsroom or collaborating with journalists or other creative professionals on software development
  • Translate big, creative ideas into a technical vision for building them and explaining them to others
  • Stay informed about relevant technology trends and developments and adopt new technologies
