Requirements
  • Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) from an accredited medical school.
  • Completion of an ACGME-accredited residency in Anesthesiology.
  • Completion of fellowship training in Pediatric Anesthesiology.
  • A minimum of 7 years of post-residency clinical experience in anesthesiology, with a demonstrated focus on pediatrics.
  • A proven track record in clinical excellence, team leadership, quality improvement, and/or academic contributions.
  • Board certification or eligibility in Anesthesiology by the American Board of Anesthesiology, with subspecialty certification in Pediatric Anesthesiology.
  • Eligibility for active and unrestricted medical licensure in the state of practice.
  • Eligibility for active DEA registration.
  • Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers and Pediatric Advanced Life Support certification.
  • Credentialing and privileging by the medical staff in accordance with hospital bylaws.
  • Ability to lead a diverse team of healthcare professionals, specifically physicians and clinicians.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to drive practice improvement and strategic decision-making.
  • Commitment to exceptional care and enhancing patient experience, including practice growth opportunities.
  • Skill in managing change and leading teams through transitions effectively.
Responsibilities
  • Provide leadership and direction for all clinical, educational, and research activities within the Department of Anesthesiology.
  • Oversee anesthesia services, including preoperative assessment, intraoperative management, and postoperative recovery, with a focus on pediatric patients.
  • Ensure compliance with hospital policies, regulatory standards including The Joint Commission and CMS, and professional guidelines.
  • Develop and implement departmental protocols, clinical pathways, and quality assurance initiatives to improve patient outcomes and operational efficiency.
  • Recruit, retain, and mentor anesthesiology faculty and staff; facilitate professional development and credentialing.
  • Manage the departmental budget, resource allocation, and capital planning in collaboration with administrative partners.
  • Serve on the hospital's medical executive committee and participate in institution-wide strategic planning.
  • Oversee anesthesia coverage for all surgical services, procedural areas, and applicable pain management programs.
  • Foster interdisciplinary collaboration with surgeons, intensivists, nursing leadership, and other departments to ensure coordinated care.
  • Lead or support scholarly activities, including research, publications, and educational programs in pediatric anesthesiology.
  • Participate in incident reviews and peer review processes, and develop corrective action plans as needed.
  • Maintain an active clinical practice in pediatric anesthesia in alignment with departmental needs.
Desired Qualifications
  • At least 3 years of leadership or administrative experience in an academic or hospital-based anesthesia department is highly preferred.

Shriners Children'S Boston Researchers Develop New Technology To Help Lessen Pain For Burn Patients

BOSTON, June 26, 2024 /PRNewswire/ -- Two researchers at Shriners Children's Boston have created a revolutionary new gel that can help alleviate pain for second-degree burn survivors during dressing changes. Learning about the anxiety and pain that many pediatric burn patients experienced when it was time for a dressing change, Dr. Aslihan Gokaltun, Ph.D., principal investigator, decided to find a way to make the process less scary and painful. She and associate investigator, O. Berk Usta, Ph.D., the Associate Professor of Surgery  Bioengineering at Harvard Medical School, began a hydrogel research study in 2020 and have now bioengineered a first-of-its-kind supramolecular hybrid hydrogel to help alleviate the stress and pain of the treatment process for burn survivors.
