- Graduate from an approved school of medical laboratory technician.
- Hold an associate degree in a related field.
- Maintain a current license as a Clinical Laboratory Technician as required by the Alabama Department of Health.
- Be certified in the laboratory area or areas where assigned.
- No prior experience is required.
- Perform and report routine laboratory testing using established policies and procedures.
- Verify results and quality control data for accuracy and reliability.
- Perform, evaluate, and document quality control, preventive maintenance, and troubleshooting procedures.
- Demonstrate proficiency with computer system ordering, resulting, and inquiry functions.
- Prepare and properly utilize reagents and supplies.
- Communicate critical results to the patient caregiver.
- Report unusual findings to the immediate supervisor.
- Report work activities and pending work to the oncoming technologist.
- Maintain regular and punctual attendance consistent with applicable policies and standards.
- Maintain compliance with Baptist Health and Orlando Health policies and procedures.
- Assume assigned responsibilities under the supervision of the Medical Technologist or Team Leader, including supply or reagent ordering and preparation, operating minor instrumentation, projects, or teaching and training.
- Perform specimen collection, receiving, and processing procedures as required.
- Answer the telephone and greet guests in the department.
- Maintain current job knowledge to instruct students or other personnel effectively.
- Participate actively in the laboratory quality improvement program, including performance and evaluation of key quality indicators.
- Follow policies and procedures to meet regulatory and accrediting agency requirements.
- Practice infection control and safety procedures and maintain a clean, organized work area.
- Maintain confidentiality of patient records and hospital and departmental matters.
- Perform other duties as directed under the supervision of the Medical Technologist or Team Leader.
