Chroma has signed a definitive agreement to join Replit.

Replit is acquiring Chroma, the company behind the open source vector database ChromaDB, to build a context layer for its software agents. Financial terms were not disclosed. Chroma Cloud, the managed service, will wind down over 60 days, and customers must migrate their workloads. Self-hosted ChromaDB continues under the Apache 2.0 license, and Chroma says it has open sourced additional private code. The project has about six million monthly downloads. Replit's chief executive officer Amjad Masad and president Michele Catasta invested in Chroma in 2023. In March 2026, Replit raised $400 million in a Series D led by Georgian at a $9 billion valuation.

Replit, the software creation platform, is expanding its government business worldwide and has hired Michael Greenwald, a former US Treasury diplomat and Amazon Web Services executive, as president of corporate affairs. Replit says government agencies at national, state, and local levels in the US and overseas, including the Middle East, are adopting its platform. Once a single department in a company uses Replit, the company's business with it doubles within six months and grows to 400% over 12 months. Greenwald spent nearly a decade at the US Treasury and was its first attaché to Qatar and Kuwait. At AWS, he was director of global executive relations. In Jordan, the Ministry of Education used Replit to build an AI learning assistant that reaches 1.3 million users across 5,800 schools. Replit also opened its first international office, in London, last month.
