Requirements
  • Graduate of an approved American Registry of Radiologic Technologists program with a specialized diploma, or possession of a high school diploma/GED with American Registry of Radiologic Technologists certification.
  • Knowledge of radiography tools, techniques, and applications, with the ability to use imaging technology on patients for diagnostic or therapeutic purposes.
  • Knowledge of and ability to prepare patients for diagnostic or radiological imaging and monitor their reactions during and after procedures.
  • Ability to respond to emergent situations by applying appropriate measures.
  • Basic Life Support certification from the American Heart Association.
  • Ability to lift and carry 40–50 pounds, push or pull patients and stretchers, perform lateral transfers, stand and walk frequently to continuously, and perform role-specific activities such as kneeling, bending, squatting, and CPR.
Responsibilities
  • Perform magnetic resonance imaging procedures and operate MRI scanners to produce detailed tissue images for medical diagnosis under the supervision of a radiologist.
  • Prepare pertinent information for physician and care team review.
  • Deliver patient care and education before, during, and after diagnostic imaging procedures.
  • Process and evaluate the technical quality of images, including density, contrast, definition, and distortion.
  • Maintain critical positioning of patients and equipment during contrast-media administration to ensure patient safety and successful examination results.
  • Instruct patients on body positioning during MRI examinations and testing.
  • Explain MRI procedures before and after scanning, answer patient questions, and communicate effectively with patients.
  • Determine equipment requirements based on the physician’s tentative diagnoses and obtain scout films for preliminary physician review.
  • Maintain MRI equipment by performing scheduled cleaning and testing and documenting the results.
  • Notify supervision of malfunctioning equipment.
  • Implement and conduct MRI safety guidelines during the imaging process.
  • Perform related technologist duties as directed by the lead technologist, supervisor, or manager, including quality assurance and quality control activities.
  • Travel between Jefferson sites when required.
