About the Job

Requirements

  • The candidate must be enrolled in an engineering school or a specialized Master's program in Civil Engineering and seeking a six-month placement as part of earning their degree.
  • The candidate must have knowledge of finite element structural analysis, structural dynamics, soil-structure interaction, and seismic calculation.
  • The candidate should have an interest in numerical modeling and nonlinear analysis.
  • The candidate should ideally be proficient with calculation software such as Ansys or Code_Aster and a programming language such as Python.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct a literature review of nonlinear analysis methods applied to civil engineering in the nuclear context.
  • Review seismic calculation methods, particularly phenomena related to soil-structure interaction.
  • Review nonlinear calculation methods, focusing on the push-over method.
  • Analyze concrete and steel constitutive models available in the literature.
  • Develop a calculation tool based on the push-over method and validate it against different case studies.
  • Compare the tool's results with available test cases and qualify the calculation tool.
  • Reproduce the calculation using the established methodology on another model.
  • Compare results with those from linear analyses, including spectral modal analysis and time-history calculation.
  • Analyze failure mechanisms, plastified zones, and capacity reserves.
  • Prepare a validation dossier for the calculation tool using the push-over method.
  • Propose a nonlinear calculation methodology based on the push-over method and adapted to nuclear engineering projects.
  • Provide recommendations for future modeling and nonlinear calculations.

About the Company

ASSYSTEM

Engineering services for design, construction, commissioning

Assystem provides engineering services for complex projects, covering design, construction, supervision, commissioning, and operation, with a strong focus on the nuclear and energy sectors. Its approach combines multidisciplinary engineering teams and project-management capabilities to move projects from initial concept through to operation. The company differentiates itself through a long track record, strategic acquisitions (including Alphatem in 1995 and Mactech Energy Group in 2025) and an early public offering in 2013, which have expanded its capabilities and market reach in the energy and nuclear fields. Its goal is to be a leading, reliable partner for clients by delivering end-to-end engineering services and helping them meet safety, performance, and regulatory requirements across the project lifecycle.
