We're looking for a hands-on player coach Tech Lead Manager to lead the Consumer Facing Web Product team. You act as a pace setter and multiplier for the team, helping to mentor and build your team up to your standards of execution. You'll be deeply involved with the technical day-to-day of the team, helping the team to deliver on the product backlog, contributing to the engineering excellence roadmap, setting architectural direction and ensuring high-quality delivery throughout. You'll be diving in when needed to help set the standards and drive quality. You'll also be responsible for the people management for a team of 3-4 engineers: 1-on-1s, career development and performance management. You bring strong technical judgement to the role, having experience being the senior-most engineer on your team. You'll collaborate closely with stakeholders from across the organization, including: SEO strategists, Paid Marketers, Product, Business Development, Data & Analytics, etc. to drive meaningful business value, focusing your efforts on growing the business rather than engineering for the sake of it.

This role reports to the Head of Engineering for Consumer Banking, Credit Cards & New Markets.

Own both the technical direction and the people outcomes for a team building some of NerdWallet's highest-traffic web shopping experiences.
Drive architecture, technical decisions, planning, and milestones.
Build and evolve the team's AI dev harness and orchestrate agentic automations across the software lifecycle, from spec to review to deployment.
Develop your engineers' AI-era skills: effective prompting, spec-writing, and reviewing AI-generated code and designs.
Manage and develop your engineers: run 1:1s, give feedback, set growth plans, and hold a performance bar.
Take input from and partner directly with engineering leadership to drive technical initiatives that enhance performance, observability, scalability, security, and developer experience.
Contribute to platform stability and resilience through effective monitoring, troubleshooting, and incident management.
Ensure high standards of technical excellence, maintaining a high-quality codebase and driving modernization efforts including AI tooling adoption.

Your experience:

8+ years in software engineering with a strong background as a hands-on Technical Lead.
Expertise in TypeScript, React and Node.js, with experience in additional modern languages.
Strong experience with modern front-end frameworks such as Next.js and React.js, with an understanding of web performance, Core Web Vitals, and technical SEO.
Experience architecting and building back-end APIs and microservices, with a focus on scalability, performance, and data integrity.
Strong understanding of database systems (both SQL and NoSQL), with experience in high-volume data processing.
Experience with cloud infrastructure (AWS, GCP, or Azure), CI/CD pipelines, containerization, and orchestration technologies like Docker and Kubernetes.
Knowledge of security and compliance best practices, particularly in financial services.
Experience in observability and running production applications, especially marketplaces, at scale.
Hands-on experience with AI development tools and advanced AI-enabled development workflows: building a development harness, agentic automations / workflows, spec-driven development, etc.

Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).
Experience with integrating Machine Learning systems, personalization pipelines, and data-driven experimentation.
Domain knowledge in finance and shopping marketplaces.
Understanding of accessibility best practices and a keen eye for usability and user experience.
Familiarity with paid and organic search strategies and how engineering decisions impact business outcomes.

Fed rate hike comes as more than one in four Americans say they don't Feel in Control of Their day-to-day finances, NerdWallet's Financial Resilience Index finds. (Nasdaq: NRDS), which provides trustworthy financial guidance to consumers and small and mid-sized businesses (SMBs), today published its latest Financial Resilience Index, a monthly score, out of 100, that tracks how financially prepared Americans are to handle economic instability. This month, the Index provides a snapshot of Americans' financial footing just before the Federal Reserve raised interest rates for the first time since 2023. Key findings: * Day-to-day financial control slips. The share of Americans who feel in control of their day-to-day finances fell for a second consecutive month, from 77% in July to 73% in September. * Recession fears ease. Recession expectations fell to 61%, a statistically significant decline since NerdWallet's Financial Resilience Index first launched in May (66%). * A generational confidence gap. Baby boomers are most confident (89%) they can pay all their bills on time this month, compared to 77% of Gen Xers, 74% of Millennials and 68% of Gen Zers. * The cash-cushion divide. Just 40% of households earning under $50,000 have enough cash on hand to cover an unexpected $1,000 expense, compared with 78% of those earning $100,000+. * Parents lean more on credit. Parents of children under 18 are more likely than adults without children to rely on credit - including credit cards, buy now, pay later plans and loans - to cover at least some expenses this month (44% versus 31%). Last month's Index found that recession expectations and cash cushions rose together, signaling that households may have been growing more protective of their cash against the backdrop of ongoing U.S.-Iran conflict, inflation and job cuts. That picture shifted in September, based on survey data collected just before the Federal Reserve's widely anticipated decision to raise rates. Recession expectations fell to 61%, down significantly since the Index launched in May (66%). But this improved outlook did not ease much pressure at home: more than one in four (27%) are feeling financially out of control this month, suggesting Americans may be feeling better about the economy, but worse about their own wallets. "This is a divergence we haven't seen before in the Index," said Kimberly Palmer, NerdWallet's personal finance expert. "Fewer Americans think a recession is coming, but that is not translating into a greater sense of control over their own finances. When those two factors move in opposite directions, it suggests the pressure households are feeling may have more to do with the cost of everyday life than the economic headlines." Methodology The Financial Resilience Index survey was conducted online by The Harris Poll on behalf of NerdWallet from Sept. 8-10, 2026, among 2,060 U.S. adults ages 18 and older. The sampling precision of Harris online polls is measured by using a Bayesian credible interval. For this study, the sample data is accurate to within +/- 2.7 percentage points using a 95% confidence level. NerdWallet's Q2 revenue climbs 6% to $197M but profits plunge 48% amid marketing push

NerdWallet reported second-quarter results on 6 August showing revenue rose 6% year over year to $197.3 million, but GAAP net income fell 48% to $4.3 million and adjusted EBITDA dropped 31% to $23.1 million. Consumer revenue grew 8% to $175.2 million, driven by personal loans and deposit accounts. The profit decline stemmed from increased spending, with sales and marketing expenses jumping 14% to $145.4 million. Despite quarterly pressures, first-half net income tripled to $24.7 million whilst operating cash flow climbed to $76.9 million. The company raised third-quarter revenue guidance to $244 million to $260 million, up 17% year over year at the midpoint.
