Candy maker hit in ransomware attack. See's Candies ended up notified on April 12 an unauthorized user accessed certain portions of its network and encrypted files on a subset of its servers. "We immediately launched an investigation and remediation effort with the assistance of outside cybersecurity experts and notified law enforcement," the company said in a notice to victims of the attack. "Its investigation determined that there was unauthorized access to portions of its network from April 11, 2026 to April 13, 2026. "We initially were unable to determine whether any files had been taken, but we later learned that the unauthorized user acquired certain files before encrypting them and that at least some of those files were available on the dark web," the company said. Because the incident involved encrypted files and a complex forensic review, See's Caandies said additional time was necessary to determine the scope of the incident, restore the reasonable integrity of its systems, and to identify the individuals whose personal information ended up stolen in the attack. As a part of its ongoing review of the impacted files available on the dark web, the company determined that one or more of those files contain victims' personal information, including your name and other details the company redacted from the notice. "As soon as we learned of the incident, we immediately launched an investigation and notified law enforcement," the company said. "We took steps to block unauthorized access to our network and to help prevent a similar incident from occurring again." See's Candies said it is continuing to review the impacted files for the presence of personal information. It added based on its investigation, this incident remained limited to the one-time event. The company does not currently have any evidence that identity theft or fraud has occurred as a result of this incident. See's Candies is a manufacturer and distributor of chocolates and confections. The company produces millions of pounds of candy a year from its own kitchens and factories in California, which it then sells through its retail shops and online store. The company's kitchens and factories operate in South San Francisco and Los Angeles, California. No further information was immediately available on who was behind the attack and how much the threat actors were seeking.
