About the Job

Requirements

  • At least 7 years of experience building and operating production data pipelines and data platforms at scale.
  • Deep proficiency in SQL and a modern programming language such as Python, with practical experience designing robust data models and multi-step ETL/ELT jobs.
  • Experience with cloud data warehouses such as BigQuery, Snowflake, or Redshift, and orchestration and transformation tools such as dbt or Airflow.
  • A track record of owning data architecture for large-scale systems, setting technical direction, and explicitly evaluating trade-offs involving scalability, reliability, security, and cost.
  • A track record of cross-team technical leadership, setting engineering standards adopted by other teams, building consensus among stakeholders with differing priorities or technical choices, driving organization-wide decisions to completion without formal authority, and developing other engineers’ capabilities.
  • Ability to work effectively amid ambiguity by taking on poorly defined cross-team challenges and creating clarity, structure, and momentum to solve them.
  • Strong English communication skills to explain complex technical trade-offs clearly and persuasively.

Responsibilities

  • Own and set the technical direction for end-to-end data architecture that integrates organization-wide data, evaluating long-term design and operational trade-offs across scalability, reliability, and cost to create a consistent, searchable, and trustworthy platform.
  • Design and build data pipelines spanning ingestion, transformation, delivery, and visualization; turn raw vehicle and simulation logs into reliable, reusable normalized datasets and unlock their value through discovery, modeling, and delivery while maintaining consistency across teams.
  • Set shared technical direction across teams by working with organization-wide stakeholders to understand their data needs, rigorously and objectively evaluating technical trade-offs, influencing roadmaps, and building agreement around a single source of truth; present key insights clearly to technical and nontechnical audiences.
  • Define and own data products, service-level agreements, and self-service dashboards and tools for datasets in the area of responsibility, and establish monitoring, alerting, and operational practices to meet those commitments.
  • Reduce risk before the organization commits to major architectural decisions through rapid prototyping and focused technical investigation, turning unresolved questions into evidence-based decisions.
  • Clearly document architecture, data models, interfaces, and decisions so others across the organization can understand, use, and maintain the designs, trade-offs, and resulting datasets.
  • Act as a cross-team technical leader by mentoring engineers and establishing data-engineering best practices and standards adopted by other teams, increasing data capabilities throughout the Autonomy organization.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience consolidating data across multiple pipelines, formats, and storage systems into a common platform, or migrating from proprietary dataset formats to open table formats such as Apache Iceberg that underpin lakehouse architectures.
  • Experience establishing data products, contracts, and service-level agreements for widely used datasets, and operating data-quality frameworks and observability.
  • Experience handling and modeling large, multimodal datasets, including spatial and time-series or sequential data such as sensors, logs, simulations, trajectories, and scene or snapshot representations, for reliable downstream use.
  • Understanding of autonomous-driving or robotics concepts and how they shape data, including vehicle motion (kinematics and dynamics), trajectories, coordinate frames, motion planning and prediction, perception, maps, and localization.
  • Knowledge of distributed data processing such as Spark or Ray, workflow orchestration such as Flyte/Union or Airflow, and columnar or lakehouse formats such as Parquet or Iceberg.
  • Experience building self-service analytics products, semantic layers, or business-intelligence and dashboard tools for cross-functional users.
  • Business-level Japanese proficiency.
