Requirements
  • A minimum of 2 years of plumbing experience is required.
  • A high school diploma or GED is required.
  • A current plumbing and/or gas license must be maintained as required by applicable governmental regulations.
  • EPA and safety certifications are required.
  • Current knowledge of and continuing education in national, state, and local plumbing code regulations is required.
  • Proficiency in mechanical operations and the ability to operate the necessary tools and equipment for plumbing projects are required.
  • Knowledge of machines and tools used in the construction or repair of houses, buildings, and other structures, including their design, uses, repairs, and maintenance, is required.
  • Working proficiency in basic mathematics and metric and standard measurements is required.
  • Proficiency in reading wiring diagrams and troubleshooting plumbing systems and equipment is required.
  • A valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record is required.
  • Availability to work flexible hours and on-call shifts as needed is required.
  • The ability to stand, walk, climb ladders and attic stairs, and maneuver in attics, basements, and crawl spaces is required.
  • The ability to work in hot, cold, outdoor, indoor, dry, humid, slippery, elevated, and congested environments is required.
  • The ability to safely climb ladders rated for a 300-pound load capacity is required.
  • Natural or corrected vision sufficient for close, distance, and peripheral vision with normal depth perception is required.
  • The ability to lift up to 100 pounds with assistance and lift and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds is required.
Responsibilities
  • Diagnose, service, install, maintain, and repair plumbing in residential and light-commercial environments.
  • Perform plumbing work in accordance with applicable plumbing codes and specifications.
  • Analyze, diagnose, and resolve customer problems in a courteous, professional, timely, and accurate manner, and identify potential problems to prevent breakdowns or callbacks.
  • Maintain and repair plumbing systems carrying water, steam, chemicals, and fuel in heating, cooling, lubricating, and other process piping systems.
  • Repair or replace defective washers, broken pipes, clogged drains, plumbing fixtures, pipes, fittings, valves, appliances, and fixtures.
  • Test joints and pipe systems for leaks and inspect high-pressure, air, steam, water, and gas systems for malfunctions.
  • Assemble pipe sections, tubing, and fittings using couplings, clamps, screws, bolts, cement, plastic solvent, caulking, soldering, brazing, or welding equipment.
  • Weld small pipes or special piping using specialized techniques, equipment, or materials.
  • Locate and mark pipe installations, connections, passage holes, and fixture positions using measuring instruments, and cut openings in structures.
  • Install pipe assemblies, fittings, valves, dishwashers, water heaters, sinks, toilets, underground storm piping, sanitary piping, and water piping using hand or power tools.
  • Anchor steel supports from ceiling joists to hold pipes in place.
  • Measure, cut, thread, or bend pipe to required angles using pipe cutters, pipe-threading machines, pipe-bending machines, or other tools.
  • Review blueprints, building codes, and specifications to determine work details and procedures.
  • Interpret drawings and specifications to determine layout requirements and plan installations around obstructions such as electrical wiring.
  • Study building plans and inspect structures to assess material and equipment needs and establish the sequence of pipe installations.
  • Fill pipes or plumbing fixtures with water or air and observe pressure gauges to detect and locate leaks.
  • Direct helpers engaged in pipe cutting, preassembly, or plumbing-system installation.
  • Ensure company property, vehicles, and tools are used, maintained, and properly accounted for.
  • Follow standard procedures, maintain vehicle stock, return defective warranty parts, and order or replenish vehicle stock as needed.
  • Communicate with customers, answer questions, resolve problems, and ensure customer satisfaction.
  • Promote products and services to customers.
  • Represent the company professionally, honestly, and ethically in business activities.
  • Work under the direction of the Field Supervisor or General Manager and perform other assigned duties.
Desired Qualifications
  • Familiarity with the heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning industry is preferred.
  • Willingness to train new plumbers in technical skills and company procedures is desired.
