About the job

Requirements
  • A Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
  • At least 5 years of industry experience designing and shipping production electronics, or 3 years with an advanced degree.
  • Experience designing and bringing up highly integrated PCB assemblies and flex or rigid-flex assemblies in shipped consumer or industrial electronics, robotics, automotive, medical, or similar high-volume, tightly integrated products.
  • Hands-on experience designing circuits with chip-scale packaging, including BGA, WLCSP, and fan-out, HDI techniques such as microvias, blind or buried vias, stacked or staggered vias, and sequential lamination, and fine-pitch miniature passive placement.
  • Proficiency with a modern ECAD tool such as KiCAD, Altium, or Cadence Allegro, including constraint-driven layout for HDI and high-speed signals.
  • Strong fundamentals in mixed-signal design, including low-noise analog sensing, power conversion, and high-speed digital design, with methods to prevent interference between them.
  • Experience with high-speed and embedded communication protocols including EtherCAT, CAN-FD, SPI, I2C/I3C, USB, MIPI, Ethernet/RGMII, and RS485.
  • Experience integrating or designing sensitive analog sensors and components such as strain gauges, capacitive sensors, and Hall-effect sensors.
  • Ability to use laboratory equipment and rely on measured data for board bring-up and debugging.
  • Ability to write and review embedded C for board bring-up, device drivers, and embedded code support.
  • Experience using GitLab for revision control and reviews.
Responsibilities
  • Help design and support the hardware architecture of tightly integrated PCB assemblies and rigid-flex circuits for actuator, sensor, perception, and compute subsystems across the robot.
  • Support component selection, stackup definition, and layout for power management, motor control, sensors, and communication using chip-scale packages, miniature passives, blind and buried vias, HDI, and board-to-board interconnects.
  • Co-design with mechanical engineers to fit electronics into constrained volumes, including three-dimensional rigid-flex routing and connector placement.
  • Support mixed-signal subsystems spanning analog sensing, power delivery, and high-speed digital communication.
  • Contribute to signal and power integrity work, including pre-layout signal and power integrity analysis, return-path planning, decoupling strategy, thermal analysis, and electromagnetic interference/electromagnetic compatibility-aware layout.
  • Bring up boards and debug them with an oscilloscope and logic analyzer, using measured data to evaluate layout choices.
  • Partner with manufacturing, electronic manufacturing services partners, and fabrication houses on stackup, impedance control, design for manufacturability, design for assembly, design for test, yield, and production ramp.
  • Follow and refine schematic, library, and layout conventions that scale to a fast-moving engineering team without accumulating technical debt.
  • Collaborate with firmware and software teams to ensure the board supports the control stack.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience in robotics, autonomy, or real-time motion control systems.
  • Background in consumer or industrial electronics at scale, including wearables, augmented or virtual reality, smartphones, or similar space-constrained, cost-sensitive, high-volume products.
  • Experience designing motor-drive and BLDC/PMSM control systems, including current sensing, gate drive, and field-oriented-control-friendly layout.
  • Experience designing with high-speed ARM, STM32, TI, or NXP microcontrollers using internal and external memory interfaces such as EEPROM, SDRAM, and Flash.
  • Experience with battery management, charger design, multiphase converters, and isolated power topologies.
  • Experience with simulation and analysis tools such as HyperLynx, ADS, Sigrity, Ansys, or LTspice for signal integrity, power integrity, and electromagnetic interference workflows.
  • Familiarity with compliance and safety standards including FCC, CE, UL, CSA, ISO 13849, IEC 61508, and ISO 26262.
  • Experience bringing up robotic actuation systems and tuning control systems.
  • Experience designing to IPC Class 2 or Class 3 design standards.
  • Experience taking products through new product introduction and production ramp with overseas electronic manufacturing services partners.

About the company

Persona AI develops humanoid robots and a labor platform to perform physically demanding tasks in industries like shipbuilding, construction, and energy infrastructure. These robots work alongside human employees to handle specialized jobs such as welding, allowing industrial sites to maintain continuous, 24/7 operations. Unlike many competitors, the company uses a "Constructor Program" that allows governments and large corporations to help co-architect the robots to meet their specific operational needs. The company's goal is to solve global labor shortages by providing a scalable robotic workforce for the world's most difficult industrial environments.

What believers are saying

  • POSCO signed a February 2026 MOU and began steel-coil trials that month.
  • Brian Davis joined in March 2026 after Amazon Robotics and Dell scaling roles.
  • A September 2026 report said Persona AI planned third-generation robots this fall.

What critics are saying

  • Persona AI remains pre-production; HD Hyundai deployment starts in 2027.
  • The company sold $65.36 million toward a $141.96 million 2026 offering.
  • If field trials fail, Persona AI becomes a demo company, not a manufacturer.

What makes Persona AI unique

  • Nic Radford and Jerry Pratt bring NASA and Figure-level robotics expertise.
  • Persona AI targets shipyards, steel mills, and energy sites, not consumer robots.
  • Its Constructor Program co-designs robots with governments and industrial giants like HD Hyundai.

Persona AI hires ex-Amazon Robotics exec to scale humanoid robot manufacturing

Persona AI, a Houston-based humanoid robotics company, has appointed Brian Davis as Head of Global Manufacturing to scale commercial production for industrial applications. Davis brings over 30 years of operations experience, including roles at Amazon Robotics and Dell Technologies, where he oversaw 25-fold increases in manufacturing volumes within four years. The appointment comes as Persona prepares to fulfil growing demand following agreements with HD Hyundai and POSCO Group for deployment in shipyards and steel manufacturing, plus a pilot programme with Louisiana. Founded in 2024, Persona AI develops humanoid robots for high-risk industrial tasks including welding, fabrication and heavy maintenance. Davis will oversee manufacturing infrastructure, supply chain management and quality control as the company transitions from prototype to volume production.
