Requirements
  • Completion of an educational program preparing graduates to practice as a nurse practitioner or advanced practice nurse, with a master's degree in nursing and eligibility for certification by a national certifying body.
  • A current Registered Nurse or Professional Nurse license and registration in the State of New Jersey.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, effective communication skills, and creative problem-solving ability.
  • At least two years of clinical nursing experience and current Basic Life Support certification.
  • Ability to perform in an expanded nursing role by providing specialty care to General Surgery patients in collaboration with attending staff.
  • Current New Jersey Registered Nurse license, Advanced Practice Nurse certification, Master of Science in Nursing, and Basic Life Support certification.
Responsibilities
  • Collect comprehensive patient health data and history, including medical, surgical, family, and social history, and collect, interpret, and document relevant diagnostic tests and procedures in the Electronic Medical Record.
  • Complete medication reconciliation by documenting the patient's current medications, over-the-counter medications, and nutritional supplements at each visit.
  • Perform and document comprehensive physical assessments, including review of systems, evaluation of disease manifestations and toxicities, and anticoagulation management.
  • Collaborate with the physician to analyze assessment data and diagnostic tests, determine diagnoses, and develop comprehensive plans of care with treatment interventions.
  • Evaluate patient progress toward expected treatment outcomes and monitor for signs and symptoms of disease progression or recurrence.
  • Manage medical and anticoagulation-management emergencies according to protocol and policy.
  • Prescribe and order medications.
  • Obtain appropriate consents for surgeries and procedures and ensure completion of required preoperative tests, forms, and documents.
  • Document assessments, prescribing, care plans, plan modifications, and care evaluations in the Electronic Medical Record.
