Requirements
  • At least one year of recent experience working in a medical facility as a medical assistant, or documented evidence of completing an externship in a medical office.
  • Experience with electrocardiograms, vital signs, venipuncture, capillary procedures, and injections.
  • A high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Graduation from a post-secondary medical assisting education program accredited by an approved certifying body under NJAC 13:35-6.4.
  • Current certification from a recognized certifying board approved by the New Jersey Board of Medical Examiners.
  • Current Basic Life Support or cardiopulmonary resuscitation certification through the American Heart Association.
  • Ability to work flexibly, multitask in a fast-paced environment, and adjust to patient volume.
  • Ability to work at other ambulatory offices based on volume when assigned.
Responsibilities
  • Provide medical assistant care under the supervision of physicians, providers, and registered nurses in ambulatory settings.
  • Greet patients and guests using AIDET and provide a high-quality service experience.
  • Provide patient support, communicate delays, and offer appropriate alternatives.
  • Perform administrative duties including rooming patients and documenting vital signs, pain, reason for visit, medication review, and social, surgical, family, and medical history.
  • Complete electronic medical record in-baskets, telephone communications, MyChart messages, and medical-record documentation.
  • Obtain reports, results, and medical records.
  • Complete insurance and disability forms, precertifications, authorizations, point-of-care testing, order transcription, and protocol-based order entry.
  • Assist with bump lists, wait lists, and appropriate work queues when assigned.
  • Schedule patient appointments, including follow-up appointments, physician office visits, imaging, and laboratory appointments.
  • Perform and document patient outreach, call backs, pool messages, MyChart messages, and confirmation calls.
  • Administer vaccines and document them according to established policies when assigned.
  • Collect and handle specimens according to established protocols, including proper labeling and safe handling.
  • Assist physicians and providers with monitoring and reporting laboratory results.
  • File reports, laboratory results, radiology reports, and correspondence in the electronic medical record and attach results to appropriate orders.
  • Obtain prior authorization for medications, procedures, and testing.
  • Communicate with multidisciplinary team members and patients while adhering to regulatory standards and the Code of Ethical Conduct.
  • Perform other duties assigned by the manager.
