About the Job

Requirements

At least 7 years of hands-on mechanical design experience.
Experience with 3D computer-aided design (CAD).
Experience owning a mechanical development effort as a lead engineer.
Experience with manufacturing processes, including plastic injection molding, sheet metal, extrusion, die casting, and computer numerical control (CNC) machining.
Experience in design for manufacture, design for cost, and other design-for-excellence (DFX) concepts.
Ability to support failure analysis and root-cause investigations, troubleshoot, iterate, and validate solutions efficiently.
Experience optimizing design for manufacturing (DFM) and design for assembly (DFA) with mechanical vendors, including tooling release, validation, and production ramp-up.

Responsibilities

Conduct mechanical feasibility studies from initial industrial design (ID) concepts through sizing analysis, component selection, refinement of design details, assembly and integration, and performance and environmental qualification testing.
Search for materials and components; create detailed 3D CAD models, 2D drawings, and bills of materials (BOMs) for products.
Perform thermal and structural testing and analysis to predict and optimize system performance.
Build prototypes, analyze reliability-testing results, improve designs, and bring products to production.
Develop component and assembly drawings, specifications, and production tolerances.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including industrial design (ID), electrical engineering (EE), thermal, radio frequency (RF), optical, audio, and user experience (UX), to drive system layout and mechanical integration.

Desired Qualifications

Mechanical design experience using SolidWorks.
Outdoor product experience, including dust and water protection and drop resistance.
Experience in optical and power-related applications.

Preferred Requirements

Mechanical design experience using Solidworks
