  • Bachelor's degree in Medical Laboratory Science, Clinical Laboratory Science, or a related field
  • Active New York State Clinical Laboratory Technologist license (generalist)
  • Hands-on experience with automated chemistry and immunoassay platforms
  • Demonstrated experience with laboratory validation, quality systems, and CLIA requirements
Responsibilities
  • Lead laboratory setup and go-live readiness, taking the lab from empty space to compliant patient testing under CLIA, CMS, and New York State regulations
  • Complete full instrument and assay validation on Abbott Alinity platforms — accuracy, precision, reportable range, reference intervals, analytical performance — with complete, inspection-ready documentation
  • Establish the SOPs, workflows, and validation practices the lab will run on for years. Build them so they're safe, efficient, and repeatable by the team that comes after you set them

  • Experience overseeing day-to-day laboratory operations in a clinical setting

Simplify's Take

What believers are saying

  • $700 million Series C at ~$7 billion valuation enables New York clinic launch and US expansion in 2026.
  • FDA 510(k) clearance for Derma-2 and Spectrum-2 devices in May 2026 validates hardware for US skin and cardiovascular use.
  • Over 350,000 waitlist members and 100,000 scans completed since 2023 create immediate demand pipeline for US entry.

What critics are saying

  • FDA clearance covers individual devices only, not the full scan service, risking regulatory rejection of US clinical claims within 12 months.
  • No peer-reviewed study validates screening outcomes or false-positive rates, exposing Neko to medical liability if abnormalities trigger unnecessary procedures.
  • US clinic costs will likely force prices above $400, making Neko uncompetitive against employer-wrapped wellness programs and MRI-based competitors like Prenuvo.

What makes Neko Health unique

  • Neko builds proprietary hardware, software, and clinical protocols in-house for its 60-minute radiation-free scan.
  • Its scan combines 70 proprietary sensors, blood tests, AI imaging, and immediate clinician review in one visit.
  • Neko achieved clinic-level profitability with 75% repeat bookings across eight UK and Sweden clinics by 2026.

Spotify co-founder's health startup Neko plans US expansion with full-body scans from $400

Neko Health, a startup co-founded by Spotify's Daniel Ek in 2018, plans to launch in the United States this spring pending regulatory approval. The company's first American clinic will open in New York, with additional locations to follow. Neko offers full-body health scans using imaging and blood tests to detect conditions including skin cancer, heart disease and diabetes risk. Currently operating in Sweden and the UK, where scans cost £299, the company expects to charge more in the US due to higher medical staffing and real estate costs. CEO Hjalmar Nilsonne is positioning the venture as Ek's next industry-disrupting project following his transformation of music consumption through Spotify, which launched in the US 15 years ago.

Image: Scan room at Neko Health's Marylebone Preventative healthcare technology company, Neko Health, is set to open its fifth global health centre on Livery Street in Colmore Business District this year. Co-founded by Hjalmar Nilsonne and Daniel Ek (founder of Spotify), Neko Health operates on the belief that prevention is better than cure and empowers people to stay ahead of their health. The Neko Body Scan (£299) is a preventive health check for the future self. The scan maps millions of health data points on your body - both inside and out - in just a few minutes, checking things like moles across the body, symptoms of metabolic syndrome and risk factors for stroke and heart attack, along with blood fats and blood sugar levels to assess pre-diabetes risk. It also checks for skin cancer and blood abnormalities. Having already amassed a loyal following of members and unprecedented demand, with over 100,000 people on the waitlist for its scans, Neko Health is setting the new standard for preventive care. With sites already in London and Manchester, the new Birmingham site continues Neko's vision to create a healthcare system that can help people stay healthy through preventive measures and early detection.
