About the job

Requirements
  • Have led engineering at a high-growth startup, grown the team, set engineering standards, and helped colleagues improve.
  • Have written meaningful production code within the last six months and want to remain hands-on rather than become a pure people manager.
  • Have hired exceptional engineers through a personal network and successfully closed difficult candidates.
  • Have owned product decisions, made roadmap decisions, written specifications, and worked directly with users.
  • Use AI centrally in software development and have concrete examples of changing team workflows and output beyond autocomplete.
  • Be familiar with TypeScript full-stack development and a modern web stack.
  • Have an analytical, experimentation-first approach, including launching features, reviewing results, and deciding whether to stop or expand them.
  • Be willing to work in person in New York City and build a close-knit team.
Responsibilities
  • Ship production code weekly and establish standards for AI-native development at Sailor.
  • Own the roadmap across patient and provider platforms and develop a deep understanding of business problems and decisions.
  • Run fast experiments for the consumer product, assess results, and iterate.
  • Recruit and close exceptional engineers, using the candidate's network and positioning Sailor as a destination for strong builders.
  • Set technical direction and make architecture decisions that balance near-term speed with the needs of substantially greater patient volume.
  • Define the practices, tools, and culture that enable a small team to build effectively with AI.
  • Mentor engineers across experience levels and help them develop their capabilities.

About the company

Sailor Health provides Medicare-covered mental health care for older adults by connecting seniors with licensed geriatric therapists. It is a telehealth platform offering individual, group, and family therapy via phone or video, with therapists matched to patient needs after a consultation. An AI-native platform handles care coordination, real-time clinical insights, and administrative tasks so clinicians can focus on patients; revenue comes from Medicare therapy claims and collections. The company targets reducing loneliness and mental health crises in seniors by improving access to home-based geriatric mental health care and by partnering with home care providers for integrated screenings.

Simplify's Take

What believers are saying

  • Medicare still covers telehealth therapy in 2026, supporting home-based senior access.
  • Sailor Health markets many patients at $0 copay, reducing senior price resistance.
  • The 2025 Advanced Nursing collaboration creates a referral channel inside Maryland home care.

What critics are saying

  • Medicare policy shifts after December 31, 2027 can crush home-based tele-mental-health economics.
  • Large incumbents like Teladoc and local Medicare providers can copy phone-first senior therapy quickly.
  • If Medicare reimbursement stalls, Sailor Health loses its only clear revenue engine and dies.

What makes Sailor Health unique

  • Sailor Health targets Medicare-covered geriatric therapy across all 50 states in 2026.
  • Its AI-native platform automates documentation, billing, and care coordination for clinicians.
  • The Advanced Nursing & Home Care partnership embeds mental-health screening into home-care workflows.
