About the job

Requirements
  • Proficiency in TypeScript.
  • Strong generalist software engineering capability.
  • Strong debugging skills, including tracing runtime failures, investigating logs, and pinpointing issues in asynchronous or multi-step agent systems.
  • Ability to transform and ingest data by building pipelines to normalize and convert unstructured data for AI systems.
  • Strong understanding of system design, including distributed systems and reliability and performance tradeoffs.
  • Experience using modern AI coding tools such as Cursor, GitHub Copilot, or Claude.
  • Strong documentation and testing discipline.
  • Two to seven years of experience working closely with large language models or AI agents in production systems.
  • Ability to thrive with minimal structure and proactively seek ways to create value for the team.
  • Comfort working with ambiguous specifications and solutions spanning prompts, code, and potentially reinforcement learning from human feedback.
Responsibilities
  • Trace and fix runtime bugs, then write regression tests.
  • Design evaluation datasets to simulate realistic workflows or red-team the system.
  • Build internal quality assurance and agent simulation tooling.
  • Normalize and transform client data for system integration.
  • Set up automatic testing and latency-tracking infrastructure.
  • Create dashboards and observability tooling for agentic system behavior.
  • Expand the existing evaluation and testing framework and agent simulation infrastructure.
  • Write prompts, debug runtime issues, build agent simulation tooling, create evaluations, interface with client data, and monitor system behavior at scale.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience with multi-agent systems, text-to-speech or natural language processing pipelines, or structured output validation.
  • Familiarity with testing frameworks, LangChain-style agent orchestration, or in-house evaluation harnesses.
  • Experience with prompt engineering, large language model evaluations, and agent orchestration, including writing and refining prompts, crafting evaluations, and reasoning about large language model outputs.
  • Experience creating internal tools or frameworks for quality assurance, evaluations, or agent simulation, and making complex systems observable and testable.
  • Experience contributing to fast-paced product cycles involving AI behavior, latency, and user experience, including validating behavior by inspecting outputs as well as logs.

About the company

Neon Health (Tensor/Belay Inc.) provides an AI-powered automation platform that targets high-volume healthcare admin workflows, especially phone-based tasks for specialty pharma and providers. It automates benefits verification, prior authorizations, financial assistance enrollment, patient onboarding, and adherence support, using modular AI with voice automation and rules engines. It differentiates itself by focusing on patient-access chokepoints with highly customizable workflows and a fast, consultative deployment model that has led to seven-figure deals and profitability. Its goal is to cut administrative work for nurses and staff and speed up patients’ access to medications, letting clinicians focus on care.

What believers are saying

  • Neon raised $6 million on 2025-09-02, led by NFX with strategic healthcare investors.
  • Its website claimed 70% labor-cost reduction and fully automated payer-facing workflows in 2026.
  • Specialty-medication access remains painful, giving Neon clear ROI for pharma manufacturers now.

What critics are saying

  • Healthcare automation rivals from Epic, Waystar, and Commure compress pricing and steal workflows.
  • A single failed prior-authorization call can trigger compliance reviews and immediate enterprise churn.
  • If Neon misses HIPAA or payer rules, pharma contracts evaporate before expansion beyond pharma.

What makes Neon Health unique

  • Neon automates specialty-drug access workflows with AI phone agents, not generic chatbots.
  • It bundles benefit verification, prior authorization, copay enrollment, and adherence into one pipeline.
  • By February 2026, Neon said it worked with about six pharmaceutical brands.
