RuneScape: Dragonwilds devs confirm "a string of sagas" are in the works as player support is "higher" than expected.

RuneScape: Dragonwilds devs confirm "a string of sagas" are in the works as player support is "higher" than expected. Published: 13 October 2026 Last Updated: 13 October 2026 Jagex's survival-crafting spin-off RuneScape: Dragonwilds will be supported for years to come as millions of players continue to flock to the studio's latest game. Dragonwilds, which released in early access back in early 2025, is now in its full 1.0 form with new console releases on Xbox, PlayStation, and Nintendo Switch 2. Jagex has already announced a slew of updates for 2027 as part of its Blood Crystal Saga, but more Sagas are already planned for the game as well. In a discussion at RuneFest, Executive Producer Jesse America and Creative Director Rick Turek confirmed that there are already plans for multiple sagas that will result in years of support for RuneScape: Dragonwilds. "There is a string of sagas planned," the developers told WCCFTech in an interview at the event. "And we're committed to the game for the long haul". With each saga currently taking up a year of content each, FRVR Limited. should see support for the game stretching into 2030. Jagex confirmed that the crafting game has been a massive success for the studio with the game boasting millions of players. In the interview, it was confirmed that "close to three million people have played the game now", confirming that those numbers are all "unique players". For its 1.0 release, RuneScape: Dragonwilds also launched in Xbox Game Pass and on the higher tiers of PlayStation Plus. Jagex told the outlet that the game's reception via these services is not only high, but higher than usual. "Sony and Microsoft are extremely happy with results and interaction with RuneScape: Dragonwilds," they said. "Higher than what they normally see." Of course, despite the fact that this is Jagex's first console game ever, the game has been extremely well received on all platforms, although its Nintendo Switch 2 port does exhibit some issues. For all platforms, though, Jagex is committed to continued support. The studio confirmed that there is a "multi-year plan" for the ongoing game, although there has been no confirmation as to how many years the game will be supported. Although, considering Jagex's past of supporting games for ages, fans probably shouldn't be concerned. Additionally, Jagex is partnering with Curseforge to bring easy modding to the survival-crafting game, allowing fans to expand the game however they wish while the studio works on additional sagas in the years to come. As any gamer knows, modding is a huge component of survival games, and Dragonwilds is no different. Lewis White is a veteran games journalist with over a decade in the field. RuneScape's Ghrazi Blood Knights duo boss arrives October 12.

RuneScape's Ghrazi Blood Knights duo boss arrives October 12. Jagex has previewed RuneScape's next high-level boss fight, the Ghrazi Blood Knights, following the release of Havenhythe Part II. The encounter launches Monday, October 12, and is built as a duo fight against Lady Ghrazi and Lord Ghrazi, with each boss bringing separate mechanics and attacks. The fight will also use an Enrage system, letting stronger teams push the difficulty higher for better bragging rights and, presumably, tougher clears. A solo version is planned for November, though Jagex hasn't detailed how that version will differ yet. Rewards include new Tier 95 Legendary Crossbows, the Invoke Arisen Flesh Necromancy incantation and its Codex, and a Lady Ghrazi boss pet. Players who finish the full collection log will also unlock a new title. Jagex is kicking things off with a Race to World First on launch day at 12:00 game time, which is 1pm UK time. For the race, the boss will launch at 2000% Enrage. The first duo to beat it will receive a unique title and signed concept art. After the race wraps, 500% and 1000% Enrage options will open to everyone. A 4000% Enrage setting is also planned for later. Jagex says a devblog with more details on the encounter is expected Monday.

'RuneScape' animated series in development with Lyrical Animation, moistcr1tikal, Jagex.

'RuneScape' animated series in development with Lyrical Animation, moistcr1tikal, Jagex. By Jamie Lang | 10/08/2026 5:29 am | 0 Sign up to get its news digest - delivered directly to your inbox twice a week. Charlie "MoistCr1TiKaL" White is adding another animation project to his slate, teaming with Lyrical Animation and game dev Jagex to develop a series based on RuneScape. Announced at RuneFest in Birmingham, U.K., the project will be produced by Lyrical Animation alongside White's Meatier Productions. Development is at an early stage, with further details expected in 2027. No animation studio, release date, or distribution partner was announced. First released in 2001, RuneScape is a massively multiplayer online role-playing game set in the medieval fantasy world of Gielinor. The franchise has welcomed more than 300 million player accounts, according to Jagex. "I've been playing RuneScape for 22 years, and it's one of my favorite IPs ever," White said in a release. "I'm so excited to be working with the team on this project." The announcement follows White and Lyrical's recent unveiling of Godslap, a 2D hand-drawn feature based on the comic he co-created. The film is currently in production at Powerhouse Animation Studios, with Kellan Stover directing, and is planned for release in 2028. For Jagex, the series forms part of a broader push to expand RuneScape beyond games. "We see huge potential to bring Gielinor to life in new ways, both for the millions who already know and love it and for a whole new audience," said CEO Jon Bellamy. Lyrical's growing animation slate also includes feature adaptations of Death Stranding and Bloodborne, the latter involving fellow gaming creator Seán "Jacksepticeye" McLoughlin.

RS4, Reignited and Dragonwilds: How Jagex is building the RuneScape multiverse.

RS4, Reignited and Dragonwilds: How Jagex is building the RuneScape multiverse. By Daniel Whitaker Game Journalist at 7GrandSteps | Reviews and Gameplay Articles Last updated: Oct 06, 2026 Jagex is working on a new title in the RuneScape universe, currently known only by the working title RS4. The studio is positioning the project as a platform built around community input, and is actively collecting suggestions and requests from fans. What is known about RS4 so far. The game will exist alongside the existing RuneScape titles rather than supplanting them. RuneScape, Old School RuneScape, and Dragonwilds will all continue to operate in parallel with RS4. A dedicated, independent team will handle RS4 so that the resources of the current games are not stretched thin. Beyond that, information remains scarce - there is not yet even a list of supported platforms. The team says it is avoiding specifics on purpose, both to keep its options open and to take player feedback into account. Reignited update planned for classic RuneScape. Classic RuneScape is set to receive a significant update called Reignited. Its contents include a new economy system and leaderboards, plus a tool designed to help new players adapt and reduce the barrier to entry into the game's large world. Players have responded to the plans with mixed feelings. Part of the community supports the changes, while others worry that the new mechanics and the parallel game branches will split an already fragmented player base even further. Dragonwilds exits early access. RuneScape: Dragonwilds has moved out of early access with the launch of version 1.0. The release brings a new continent, Scorned Wilderness, which includes a building zone and a raid zone where construction is not permitted. It also adds new enemy types and a final boss, along with more than 30 new items. Some mechanics and spells have been reworked, and over 2,500 bugs have been fixed. A franchise running in parallel. Jagex's approach favors simultaneous development over a single flagship game, with the studio building an ecosystem in which different audiences can each find a format that suits them. RS4 is intended to hew as closely as possible to what the community wants, while Reignited serves to keep veteran players engaged and ease the way for newcomers. Should the strategy succeed, RuneScape would stand out as a franchise that manages to sustain several iterations at once.
