Why the iManage and Microsoft partnership matters more than ever at Ignite 2026.

Why the iManage and Microsoft partnership matters more than ever at Ignite 2026. Kevin Pardue Director, Strategic Alliances I spend most of my time at the intersection of iManage and Microsoft, and the conversations that stick with me right now in legal and professional services technology aren't about which AI model is fastest. They're about trust - whether an organization's knowledge work platform and its Microsoft estate can move together, under one set of controls, as AI becomes part of daily work. I'll be having that conversation at Microsoft Ignite, running November 17-20, 2026 at the Moscone Center in San Francisco, where iManage will be exhibiting. Find iManage Inc. in the Hub at booth 1728. The problem IT and compliance leaders keep raising. Every IT and compliance leader I talk with is wrestling with some version of the same problem, whether they sit inside a law firm, a financial services firm, or another professional services organization handling sensitive, regulated content. Microsoft 365 Copilot and the wider agent ecosystem are moving fast, and the business wants the productivity gains now. Client and matter content isn't ordinary content, though. It carries ethical walls, information barriers, retention obligations, and audit requirements that go well beyond general-purpose governance. Microsoft's security and compliance stack gives organizations a strong baseline, but the matter-level, need-to-know controls that law firms, financial services firms, and other regulated organizations rely on every day usually call for a purpose-built layer on top of it. Roll out Copilot broadly and you risk AI touching content it shouldn't. Hold it back and the organization loses the productivity case leadership was promised, while competitors who've solved the governance question pull ahead. Why "better together" isn't a slogan. This is where the iManage and Microsoft relationship actually delivers, and it's why I wanted to anchor this piece around Ignite. iManage is the knowledge work platform for financial services, professional services, and corporate legal teams across any regulated industry managing their most sensitive content in Microsoft 365. Built natively into Outlook, Teams, Office, and Purview, and running exclusively on Azure, iManage keeps client and matter work governed with ethical walls, information barriers, and full audit. It now gives Copilot and Microsoft 365 Copilot Cowork secure access to that content through the iManage MCP Server, so the same controls apply whether the work happens in iManage, in Microsoft 365, or through Copilot itself. For IT and innovation leaders, that distinction matters. The goal isn't AI potential - it's AI you can actually deploy at scale without a security exception process standing in the way. iManage supports more than 4,500 customers and over one million users across more than 80 countries, including 86 percent of the Global 100 law firms and 133 of the Fortune 500. Most of those organizations run on Microsoft 365 already, which is exactly the overlap iManage Inc. is here to talk about at Ignite. What's new, and why it matters now. Its recent launch of the next-generation iManage platform is the clearest expression yet of what "better together" looks like in practice. Now generally available, the next-gen platform brings AI natively into the flow of work instead of asking people to leave it. Context-aware capabilities let teams query a single document or an entire matter, build chronologies, and run review against approved playbooks without switching tools. Underpinning it is iManage Context Fabric(TM), the governed intelligence layer that connects documents, communications, parties, and relationships into the complete story of a matter, and extends into connected business systems too. It lets AI reason with real institutional context instead of guessing. Agent-optimized MCP means any MCP-connected AI tool, Copilot included, returns more relevant answers using fewer tokens, while every permission, ethical wall, and information barrier configured for that matter still applies to every AI action. None of this requires migrating content or ripping out what's already working. Administrators switch it on and apply the governance model they already run in iManage to how Microsoft 365 and Copilot interact with that content. Across a large share of the legal and professional services market, that's a straightforward extension of infrastructure already in place. What I want to talk about at Ignite. Ignite draws the people actually responsible for making enterprise AI work day to day: architects, IT decision-makers, and partners trying to move past pilots into scaled, governed deployment. That's the audience iManage and Microsoft built this platform for, and the conversation I want to have with you in San Francisco. If you're an IT or innovation leader at a law firm, a financial services firm, or any other regulated organization, and you're trying to work out how to give people the benefits of Copilot and agentic AI without losing control of your most sensitive content, come find me. I want to hear about the governance questions that are still open for you, and about the Copilot pilot that stalled because legal said no - that's usually where the real conversation starts. Find iManage Inc. at Ignite. iManage will be in the Hub at Microsoft Ignite 2026, November 17-20 in San Francisco. Find the team at booth 1728 to see the next-gen iManage platform running on Azure and connected into Microsoft 365 Copilot, or just to talk through what governed AI adoption looks like for your organization. Register for Microsoft Ignite if you haven't already, and read more on the next-gen iManage platform before you come find iManage Inc.. See you in San Francisco. iManage links ChatGPT Enterprise to governed knowledge.

iManage links ChatGPT Enterprise to governed knowledge. Thu, 1st Oct 2026 (Yesterday) iManage has launched an integration with ChatGPT Enterprise, bringing iManage content into OpenAI's workplace chatbot under existing access controls. The integration is an iManage plug-in for ChatGPT Enterprise that lets users search, read, organise and save material held in the document and knowledge management platform. It preserves existing permissions, ethical walls and audit trails while work is carried out inside ChatGPT Enterprise. Users can search for documents they are authorised to access, including prior agreements, matter files and related correspondence. They can review that material inside the chatbot, file drafts into the correct matter, and save new or revised work back into iManage as a new version while preserving version history. The workflow is aimed at knowledge workers who already use iManage as a central repository for documents and emails, particularly in legal and other professional services settings where access controls and record-keeping are critical. The integration is built on what iManage calls its Context Fabric, which links signals across an organisation's content and activity data. This allows models in ChatGPT Enterprise to work with connected context rather than pulling from single documents in isolation, helping surface related work and prior matters. One example is a lawyer carrying out a contract review. The user could locate the latest agreement, related correspondence and relevant amendments stored in iManage, review the material in one workflow, and save updated work back to the relevant workspace. Open AI approach The announcement also reflects iManage's broader position that customers should be able to connect governed internal knowledge to different artificial intelligence tools rather than rely on a single interface. Customers can enable the plug-in in ChatGPT Enterprise directly, without building a separate connection themselves. For iManage, the tie-up extends its effort to make its repository available within external AI environments while keeping control structures attached to the underlying content. That is likely to matter to firms in regulated sectors that want staff to use generative AI tools but remain cautious about where information is accessed and how it is handled. iManage says it is used by more than one million professionals at 4,000 organisations globally. The company has a long presence in document and email management for legal and professional services firms and has increasingly focused on embedding AI features into knowledge workflows. OpenAI has also been building industry-specific use cases around ChatGPT Enterprise, with legal work emerging as one area of competition among software vendors, specialist legal technology providers and large platform companies. Integrations with existing document stores and work product archives have become a key battleground because the quality of responses often depends on access to reliable internal records. Neil Araujo outlined iManage's position on customer choice in AI tooling. "Our customers want the freedom to use the AI tools that best fit how their organisations work, without compromising the governance around their most important knowledge," said Neil Araujo, Chief Executive Officer, iManage. "This integration with ChatGPT makes it even easier to bring governed iManage knowledge into one of the AI environments they choose to use, while reflecting our broader open ecosystem strategy of giving customers choice and flexibility." Jason Boehmig framed the agreement around legal work and firm-specific expertise. "We believe the next generation of AI for law will be built around what makes each firm distinctive - its expertise, judgment, and way of working. By building alongside iManage, we're turning that expertise into AI lawyers can use every day, creating new ways for firms to serve their clients and shape the future of legal work," said Jason Boehmig, GM Legal Industry, OpenAI.

Schalast takes the next step in legal knowledge management with iManage Cloud.

Schalast takes the next step in legal knowledge management with iManage Cloud. Table of contents. Let's get in touch - and Irisecm'll connect you to one of its experts! Schalast is a leading multi-office German law firm with offices in Frankfurt am Main, Berlin, Düsseldorf, Hamburg, and Stuttgart. For more than 30 years, the firm has advised German and international clients on M&A, corporate law, banking and finance, employment law, IP, IT and technology, and other relevant areas of law, enabling innovative business models and economic success. In recent years, the firm has experienced significant growth, accompanied by the adoption of cutting-edge AI and the implementation of best-in-class technology solutions. In line with its ambitions, Schalast selected iManage Cloud for law firms as its new document management foundation. Implementation is now underway in collaboration with IRIS Nederland. Beyond storage: the case for change. Schalast had been running on an existing document management system landscape that no longer kept pace with the firm's direction. Development had stalled and future-proofing was limited. Furthermore, the integration experience with Microsoft 365 tools such as Outlook and Teams fell short of what a modern legal practice demands. For Schalast, the issue was not simply about replacing a system. The firm wanted to treat document management as a strategic knowledge management platform, not just a storage layer. At the same time, Schalast operates in an environment of rising security, governance, and vendor due diligence expectations. Therefore, they needed a platform that could support a more robust compliance posture around availability, incident response, data governance, and certifications. Moreover, the firm had a clear eye on AI adoption. The ability to connect governed firm knowledge with AI solutions such as Legora, as well as future tools and use cases, was therefore an important consideration. With APIs and emerging standards-based connectivity such as the iManage MCP Server, the platform provides an open foundation for integrating AI while maintaining established access controls and governance structures. A platform that thinks like a law firm. After a thorough evaluation, Schalast selected iManage Cloud as their new document management platform. The decision was well-grounded. iManage had already been ranked as the number-one platform in a prior assessment. Additionally, recommendations from firms within Schalast's Multilaw network reinforced the choice. What set iManage apart was its fit with legal knowledge work. The platform combines matter-centric governance, enterprise-grade security, advanced search, auditability, and controlled external sharing. Its cloud maturity and compliance credentials, including SOC 2 and ISO certifications, addressed Schalast's due diligence requirements. Furthermore, the deep native integration with Microsoft 365 addresses one of the firm's most pressing frustrations. Beyond the DMS itself, the platform can also connect adjacent legal workflows directly to governed documents. Through iManage Work E-signature, documents can be sent from iManage Work to supported providers, with signing status and executed copies managed from the iManage environment. This can reduce manual hand-offs and local file handling while keeping the signing process connected to the relevant matter and document record. At the same time, iManage gives Schalast different paths for adopting AI. Native capabilities such as Ask iManage can enable AI-powered knowledge discovery directly within the governed iManage environment, while integrations with specialist AI platforms such as Legora can connect additional tools to institutional knowledge. This flexibility is important to Schalast: the goal is not to build its AI strategy around a single application, but to create a secure and extensible knowledge foundation capable of supporting different AI solutions over time. A strategic partner, not just an implementer. Schalast needed more than a vendor to switch on a new system. They needed a partner who could guide them through a complex legal IT transition. That is why they chose IRIS Nederland. IRIS is closely involved across every dimension of the project. This includes commercial and legal alignment, technical scoping, and project management. The team coordinates with iManage and manages integration with existing systems and third-party tooling. Moreover, IRIS provides strategic guidance well beyond the boundaries of a standard implementation, advising on scoping, migration approach, integrations, governance, and project coordination. For Schalast, the relationship with IRIS is built on trust. And that trust was earned through consistent, hands-on involvement at every stage of the journey. "The storage, use, and management of data have never been more important - or more challenging - than they are today. That is why we needed a partner we could trust completely: one that understands our industry and its complex regulatory requirements while meeting our own high standards for security, user-friendliness, and technological advancement" explains Florian Frisse, LL.M., Attorney and Partner at Schalast. A stronger foundation for what comes next. Once fully deployed, iManage Cloud will provide Schalast with a stronger foundation for governance, knowledge accessibility, integrated digital workflows, and AI-enabled ways of working. Microsoft 365 integration is designed to reduce friction in daily workflows. As a result, document and matter management can become more structured, searchable, and better aligned with the way Schalast's lawyers work. Equally important, the migration is planned as a controlled transition. It is intended to preserve existing matter structures, scans, and tooling where needed, while building toward a more scalable environment. Beyond document management, iManage can serve as a governed knowledge layer for native and third-party capabilities. Existing permissions, matter structures, and information governance controls can therefore form the basis for controlled access to firm knowledge across AI applications and connected workflows. About Schalast. Schalast is one of the leading commercial law firms in the German financial center of Frankfurt am Main. Further locations of the law firm are Berlin, Hamburg, Duesseldorf and Stuttgart. Schalast advises ambitious companies from Germany and around the world. The firm's more than 100 lawyers are organized in the practice groups Employment Law, Banking & Finance, Corporate/M&A, Insolvency & Restructuring, Dispute Resolution, IP, IT & Media, Commercial, Real Estate, Tax, Energy, Infrastructure & Telecommunications, Healthcare & Life Sciences, Antitrust & Foreign Trade Law, Transfer Pricing, Public Procurement Law, White-Collar and Tax Criminal Law. The notary's office forms a further focus. The firm is a member of the international Tier 1 network Multilaw and is thus able to assist clients worldwide. Schalast has supported social projects for years through pro bono work as well as donations and wants to contribute to the topic of sustainability. About IRIS Nederland. IRIS Nederland is a trusted technology partner for law firms and professional services organizations across the Benelux region. Backed by Canon Information Management Solutions and 30 years of experience, IRIS helps organizations create a secure, connected foundation for the way they work. With deep expertise in legal IT, document management, and cloud transformation, IRIS empowers firms to move beyond paper, manual steps, and scattered tools, and unlock new levels of efficiency, compliance, and innovation. liked what you just read? iManage and Wordsmith AI partner to connect trusted legal knowledge with agentic workflows.

iManage and Wordsmith AI partner to connect trusted legal knowledge with agentic workflows. CHICAGO & NEW YORK, September 2nd 2026: In-house legal teams are absorbing more contracts, more questions and more risk every quarter, with headcount that rarely keeps pace. The tools meant to help often add a step rather than remove one. Work still has to be found, opened, drafted, checked and filed back by hand. Today, iManage and Wordsmith AI announced a technology partnership designed to help corporate legal teams get more value from the knowledge and work product they already manage in iManage. Wordsmith AI is joining the iManage Technology Partner Program, connecting its agentic legal workflows with the next-generation iManage platform, the AI-ready knowledge foundation for legal teams. The next-generation iManage platform brings AI into the flow of work while building toward a context fabric - a governed intelligence layer that connects an organization's documents, matters, people and institutional knowledge. Its open architecture is designed to enable approved AI tools, like Wordsmith AI, to access the trusted knowledge they need without requiring organisations to establish a new repository for every AI application. The partnership brings together two complementary capabilities: iManage provides the trusted knowledge foundation for legal work, while Wordsmith applies agentic workflows to tasks including drafting, review and answering routine legal questions. Through the integration, Wordsmith can securely access relevant content through iManage APIs. This enables customers to leverage that knowledge within Wordsmith's agentic workflows, with plans to return resulting work product back to iManage in future releases. "Corporate legal teams are building increasingly diverse AI ecosystems, and they need a governed foundation underneath them," said Ryan Begin, Vice President, Technology Partnerships and Ecosystem Strategy at iManage. "Our open architecture gives customers the flexibility to use great, specialised AI products while getting more value from the knowledge already held in iManage. Wordsmith AI is a strong example of that ecosystem in action - bringing agentic legal workflows together with the governed content and context that corporate legal teams rely on." "In-house legal teams already rely on iManage to hold critical matter content and institutional knowledge," said Ross McNairn, CEO and co-founder of Wordsmith AI. "Connecting Wordsmith to that knowledge gives our agents access to the context they need to support meaningful legal work, while enabling teams to bring resulting work product back into the systems they already depend on. We are not here to help lawyers search a little faster. We are here to take the request, do the work, and hand it back finished." What the integration delivers. The integration is built for in-house legal teams and connects Wordsmith's agents to the next generation iManage platform. It is designed to help corporate legal teams connect agentic workflows with the governed content and context already managed in iManage. * Work, not just retrieval: Wordsmith agents deliver substantive work, drafted, reviewed, redlined, within the workflow. Lawyers get finished-quality output ready for approval and sign-off, not raw material requiring assembly. * Intake to output in one flow: Requests triggered at intake route straight to the right agent, with matter workspaces created and populated automatically, so nothing is set up by hand. * Built on a trusted knowledge foundation: iManage remains the system where customers manage and govern their legal knowledge and work product. The integration enables Wordsmith AI to access relevant iManage content through supported APIs, helping agents work from an organisation's own legal knowledge rather than generic information alone. * Built for the in-house reality: Designed around the volume, mix and pace of corporate legal work, where a small team handles a long tail of contracts and queries. Availability. The iManage integration is offered to shared Wordsmith and iManage customers. Contact your Wordsmith account manager to discuss how iManage can be incorporated into your Wordsmith workflows. Joint go-to-market activity and enablement for in-house legal teams will follow over the course of the year. iManage links governed legal data to Gemini Enterprise.

iManage links governed legal data to Gemini Enterprise. Fri, 28th Aug 2026 (Today) iManage has launched new artificial intelligence tools built on Google Cloud's Gemini Enterprise for Legal. The integration gives users access to governed knowledge held in iManage from within Google's legal AI environment. The move links iManage's document and knowledge management system with Gemini Enterprise for Legal, allowing users to query matter files, precedent and internal expertise without leaving the Google Cloud workspace. It is aimed at legal teams, as well as users in financial services and life sciences, where sensitive records and access controls are central to daily work. At the centre of the announcement is an effort to address a recurring problem in corporate AI projects: staff often rely on duplicated or exported data sets that sit outside normal governance rules. iManage said the integration is intended to avoid that by retrieving information directly under existing permissions rather than from static copies of documents and records. That means the system can draw on matter, client and personnel data alongside unstructured content stored in iManage. Users can ask natural-language questions and receive responses based on current information that remains subject to the same controls and audit requirements already applied inside the platform. For law firms and in-house legal departments, this could affect work such as reviewing deal documents, handling e-discovery and searching for precedent. It also reflects wider demand for AI systems that can work with confidential information without forcing organisations to loosen long-standing compliance processes. Governance focus iManage framed the release as part of a broader effort to position itself as a knowledge layer for AI tools its customers already use. Rather than asking clients to move sensitive content into a separate AI repository, it is seeking to make its governed stores available to external systems while retaining existing controls. That approach is likely to appeal to companies that have already standardised on Google Cloud but remain cautious about applying generative AI to legal or regulated workloads. In sectors such as legal services, banking and life sciences, the quality of source material and the chain of access around it often determine whether AI can move beyond pilot projects. Google Cloud also used the launch to underline its legal industry strategy. "Legal professionals handle vast amounts of complex information and need AI tools that respect strict confidentiality while accelerating daily tasks. Bringing iManage into Gemini Enterprise enables teams to analyze deal documents, e-discovery files, and precedent with speed and confidence," said Satish Thomas, Vice President, Google Cloud. The partnership gives Google Cloud access to one of the better-known knowledge management suppliers in legal technology. iManage said it is used by more than one million professionals across 4,000 organisations, giving it an installed base that includes firms and corporate legal teams dealing with large volumes of documents and email. Industry pressure Legal technology suppliers have spent the past two years trying to show that generative AI can be introduced without creating unmanaged copies of client files or exposing confidential work product. Customers have pressed vendors on how models access information, whether permissions are preserved and how outputs can be traced back to source materials. Those concerns have become more acute as firms experiment with AI agents and workflow automation for drafting, research and document review. A system that can search governed repositories in place, rather than relying on one-off exports, addresses one of the practical barriers to wider deployment. For iManage, the integration also broadens its alliance strategy by tying its platform more closely to external AI models and interfaces chosen by customers. The company wants to give organisations choice in how they adopt AI while keeping core knowledge secure and available across different tools. David Zember, Vice President, Global Channels and Alliances, iManage, said the integration forms part of that effort. "This integration underscores our strategic commitment to building the industry's best ecosystem. This approach gives our clients choice in how they use AI to connect to the knowledge they already trust. Gemini Enterprise can securely draw on matter context, precedent and institutional knowledge in iManage while preserving the permissions, controls and auditability organizations already rely on," he said. He added: "It is a practical example of how enterprise AI and governed knowledge systems can work together to deliver more useful outcomes without compromising trust."
