Responsibilities
  • Promote compliance with the procedures required by the clinical trial.
  • Collaborate with the research team to improve procedures performed on patients from enrollment through completion of the clinical trial.
  • Take vital signs, weight, and height, and perform all procedures required by the clinical-trial protocol.
  • Administer treatments in accordance with the protocol and regulatory requirements.
  • Collect blood, serum, and/or urine samples from patients for the clinical laboratory as required by the protocol.
  • Extract, process, and send pharmacokinetic/pharmacodynamic (PK/PD) samples.

Allegheny Health Network and The START Center for Cancer Research have formed a strategic collaboration to expand access to early-phase cancer trials in western Pennsylvania. A new START clinical trial site will be established within AHN Cancer Center at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh. Western Pennsylvania sees approximately 89,000 new cancer cases diagnosed annually across the state, yet patients have historically faced limited local access to early-phase oncology trials. The collaboration will integrate START's expertise in community-based oncology trials with AHN's network of cancer specialists. START operates the largest global network of early-phase clinical trial sites, with over 40 principal investigators across 16 locations in the United States and Europe. The network maintains nearly 1,000 active studies. AHN Cancer Center serves over 20,000 new patients annually across 24 affiliated oncology clinics.

A new START early-phase clinical trial site will be established in collaboration with Herbert Wertheim Cancer Institute, part of Baptist Health South Florida, giving patients across South Florida direct access to the most advanced investigational cancer therapies in the world. South Florida represents a significant and growing need for expanded access to early-phase oncology clinical trials. With more than 130,000 new cancer cases diagnosed annually across Florida, patients in the region have historically had limited local access to early-phase studies, often requiring travel outside their communities to participate.
