What believers are saying

  • Nighthawk reached operation on August 12, 2026, proving execution at 300 MW/1,200 MWh.
  • Cormorant advanced on September 16, 2026, toward 2027 operation and MCE revenues.
  • Arevon closed $920 million for Nighthawk and completed $5.1 billion financings recently.

What critics are saying

  • California policy and utility procurement dominate revenue; one state shift hits the platform.
  • Battery fire at Nighthawk or Cormorant would freeze financing, permitting, and offtake trust.
  • Tax-credit transfer structures and project finance leave Arevon exposed to policy changes by 2027.

What makes Arevon unique

  • Arevon owns and operates utility-scale solar plus storage, not just develops and flips.
  • Nighthawk and Cormorant use LFP batteries, reassuring utilities and financing partners.
  • California execution stands out: Arevon ranks No. 1 in Solar Power World's 2026 California list.

Arevon secures three 20-year Renewable Energy Credit contracts for its 200 megawatt Panther Energy Project in Illinois. Oct 13, 2026, 08:00 ET Agreements with Ameren Illinois, ComEd, and MidAmerican advance the Perry County solar project and the state's energy goals PERRY COUNTY, Ill. and SCOTTSDALE, Ariz., Oct. 13, 2026/PRNewswire/ - Arevon Energy, Inc., a leading American energy developer, owner, and operator, today announced it has executed three 20-year Indexed Renewable Energy Credit (REC) contracts with Ameren Illinois Company (Ameren Illinois), Commonwealth Edison Company (ComEd), and MidAmerican Energy Company (MidAmerican) for its 200 megawatt (MWac)/275 megawatt (MWdc) Panther Energy Project in Perry County, Illinois. The Panther Energy Project is anticipated to begin construction in 2027 and reach completion in 2028, creating an estimated 200 construction jobs. The project is expected to contribute an estimated $20 million in property tax payments over its operating life, benefiting area schools, infrastructure, and other public services while driving additional economic activity. Arevon has established a local office in Pinckneyville, providing landowners, residents, and other community members with direct access to the Panther project team during development and upcoming construction. Once operational, the project is expected to generate enough electricity to power more than 37,000 Illinois homes. The long-term commercial agreements follow Panther Energy's selection in the Illinois Power Agency's (IPA) Summer 2026 Indexed REC procurement, which was approved by the Illinois Commerce Commission (ICC). Under the IPA's procurement methodology, Panther Energy was selected to deliver 421,131 RECs in the first year, which will be allocated among Ameren Illinois, ComEd, and MidAmerican through separate long-term contracts with each utility. The Indexed REC structure provides long-term revenue certainty that supports the development and financing of new renewable energy projects. The RECs acquired by the utilities will help meet their obligations under the Illinois Renewable Portfolio Standard. The Summer 2026 procurement was conducted pursuant to Illinois's Climate and Equitable Jobs Act (CEJA), which became law in 2021 and established the Indexed REC pricing structure for utility-scale renewable energy procurements. In total, the ICC approved contracts for 1.55 gigawatts of new renewable energy capacity, including four utility-scale solar projects totaling 740 MWac, through the Summer 2026 procurement. "Arevon is proud to work with Ameren Illinois, ComEd, and MidAmerican through the IPA procurement to move Panther Energy closer to construction and contribute to Illinois's energy goals," said Tommy Greer, Chief Commercial Officer at Arevon. "We appreciate the collaboration of Perry County residents, landowners, and local officials throughout the project's development. We look forward to delivering reliable, homegrown energy to the grid while creating jobs, generating long-term economic benefits, and investing in the local community." Arevon is actively growing its portfolio in the Midwest region of the United States through the operations, construction, and continued development of energy facilities. Arevon celebrates construction progress at its 250 megawatt/1,000 megawatt-hour Cormorant Energy Storage Project in California. Sep 16, 2026, 11:00 ET The battery storage facility will strengthen grid reliability while driving local economic investment and supporting California's transition to a more affordable and resilient energy future DALY CITY, Calif. and SCOTTSDALE, Ariz., Sept. 16, 2026 /PRNewswire/ - Arevon Energy, Inc., a leading American energy developer, owner, and operator, today celebrated significant construction progress at its Cormorant Energy Storage Project in Daly City, California. The 250 megawatt (MW)/1,000 megawatt-hour (MWh) facility, expected to begin operations in 2027, will be capable of powering 321,000 homes for up to four hours during periods of peak electricity demand. By storing electricity during periods of lower demand and dispatching it when demand is highest, the project will enhance grid reliability in California. Arevon is developing and will own and operate Cormorant, which is being constructed in partnership with Primoris Services Corporation's Renewables group. The project will employ approximately 175 workers at peak construction and will use lithium iron phosphate battery technology, recognized for its strong safety record and long operating life. Over its lifetime, Cormorant is expected to generate more than $73 million in property tax revenue to help fund schools, infrastructure improvements, and public services. In addition, the project will save more than 4.2 billion gallons of water and avoid 174,000 metric tons of CO[2] annually. Arevon announced Cormorant's start of construction in March 2026, and has since made significant advancement toward commercial operation. To mark this progress, Arevon hosted a celebration attended by project partners, state and local officials, labor and business leaders, and community members. Speaking on the project's anticipated impact were Justin Johnson, Chief Executive Officer at Arevon; Molly Sterkel, a Director in the Energy Division of the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC); Mayor Glenn Sylvester of Daly City; Perla Ibarrientos, Chairman of the Board at Pilipino Bayanihan Resource Center; and Marya Ouro-Gbeleou, Senior Director of Client Services at the Daly City Partnership. Megan Yarnell, Development Associate at Arevon, was the event's master of ceremonies. "Cormorant represents the kind of critical energy infrastructure California needs to meet growing electricity demand while strengthening grid reliability," said Johnson. "This event recognized the tremendous work of our construction crews and project partners who are bringing this facility to life. Arevon is proud to invest in projects that store power when it is abundant, deliver it when it is needed most, and support a more reliable and affordable energy future for California." "Cormorant is a great example of the progress California is making toward a reliable, affordable, and increasingly clean electric grid. The CPUC, working with our partners through the state's Tracking Energy Development Task Force, has supported this project since 2024, helping address challenges and keep it moving forward," said Sterkel. "The CPUC expects over 20 gigawatts of new clean resources to come online by 2032 to meet our reliability requirements. Battery storage is a critical part of that effort, providing reliability when solar generation declines and demand remains high. We congratulate Arevon and all of the partners who helped advance this 250 MW project to this important milestone for California's clean energy future." "This project demonstrates that Daly City can play a leading role in building the reliable, resilient infrastructure our state needs," said Mayor Sylvester. "Cormorant will strengthen our electric grid, create jobs, generate significant long-term revenue for public services, and help move California toward a cleaner and more sustainable future." Cormorant is under a long-term offtake agreement with MCE, an electricity provider serving more than 1.8 million residents and businesses across Contra Costa, Marin, Napa, and Solano counties. Originally planned at 188 MW/752 MWh, Cormorant was expanded to 250 MW/1,000 MWh, with MCE contracting for the project's additional capacity. "MCE and Arevon have partnered on the Cormorant Energy Storage Project to provide clean, reliable electricity when it's needed most," said Vicken Kasarjian, MCE's Acting Chief Executive Officer and Chief Operating Officer. "In addition to helping Bay Area residents take advantage of abundant midday solar production, this project has a direct community benefit. As part of Arevon's contract with MCE, more than $500,000 will be distributed to fund local community programs that empower residents and support a future we can be proud of." Arevon has continued its engagement in Daly City and the greater Bayshore community as Cormorant has progressed through development and construction. Through donations, sponsorships, scholarships, memberships, and volunteer activities, the company has partnered with more than a dozen local and regional organizations, including Bayshore Elementary School District, Jefferson Union High School District, Daly City Partnership, Pilipino Bayanihan Resource Center, Bayshore Community Center, Pacific Islands Together, John's Closet, among others. "From offering afterschool programs to senior assistance initiatives to workforce trainings, community support is at the heart of everything we do at the Daly City Partnership," said Mike Stancil, Executive Director at the Daly City Partnership. "By investing in clean, renewable energy for Daly City, it's clear that Arevon shares our same commitment to community. They have been a great supporter of our organization, and we are incredibly grateful to have such a caring and compassionate corporate partner in Daly City." Several of these projects have also received national recognition, including Condor for Proximo's North America Storage Deal of the Year Award, Vikings for IJGlobal's Renewables Deal of the Year - Energy Storage Award and Proximo's North American Deals of the Year Award, and Eland, which received highly commended recognition in the 2026 Reuters Events Clean Power Generation Award. In addition, Eland and Nighthawk have been named finalists in the S&P Global Platts 2026 Global Energy Awards in the Infrastructure Project of the Year and Energy Deal of the Year categories, respectively.
