The october 3rd Lightning Round. Oct 4, 2026 Hy-Vee has purchased a 9.5-acre lot for $5 million in the Hanover Falls commercial development northwest of 156th and State Street. The property is presumed to be intended for a future grocery store, but Grow Omaha notes that Hy-Vee has a history of securing land well before construction and opening, so the purchase does not mean a new store is imminent. The USG Construction Lightning Round also reports that Borsheims has reopened its front entrance at Regency Shopping Center while renovation work continues. The Tox, a health and wellness business with more than 50 locations nationwide, is planning a location near Village Pointe. Ivera is now open at Oakview Mall, Wander Within has opened near 76th and Pierce Street and the Omaha Press Club is reopening for lunch after a temporary closure tied to the apartment conversion of its downtown building. The segment also reports a Midtown Crossing restaurant closure. The City of Omaha is reviewing the redevelopment agreement for the future Union Omaha soccer stadium in north downtown. The plan calls for a roughly $140 million project with the city owning the stadium and land and leasing the facility to Union Omaha. The stadium is planned for about 5,600 seats with the ability to expand to 7,000, and the agreement calls for completion by the end of 2028. This week's Grow Omaha News of the Week also covers Metropolitan Community College's new $3.1 million biotechnology laboratory on its Elkhorn campus and the Omaha City Council's delayed vote on tax increment financing for the Center Mall redevelopment. The discussion includes the Department of Veterans Affairs' potential interest in the Center Mall property. Construction is underway on the 144-room Millwork Hotel at 1201 Nicholas Street, while a building permit signals interior work will soon begin for LL Bean at Avenue One. The segment finishes with a national jobs ranking that places Omaha No. 12 among qualifying U.S. metro areas.
Pumpkin Carving at the NEW Zoo on October 7. The NEW Zoo & Adventure Park invites you to carve out some fun this fall at its annual Public Pumpkin Carving Event, sponsored by Happy Joe's Pizza & ice Cream and Hy-Vee. This year's event will take place on Wednesday, October 7 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Pines Shelter building, on the north end of the NEW Zoo's main parking lot. Bring your own carving tools and show Greater Green Bay Chamber your creative carving skills to help Greater Green Bay Chamber decorate the Zoo! This event is free to attend. Donations of pumpkins are welcome and encouraged, but pumpkins for attendees to carve will also be provided by Hy-Vee. If you work up an appetite while you carve, don't worry: Happy Joe's Pizza & Ice Cream is providing FREE PIZZA and there will also be drinks for everyone who joins Greater Green Bay Chamber while supplies last! Happy Joe's mascot, "Happy the Dog," will also stop by that night to meet guests. This is a great opportunity for families, along with larger groups such as scout troops, clubs, churches, school service groups, and more. Everyone is welcome! "Over the last 15 years, our Public Pumpkin Carving event has become a favorite fall activity for so many families in our community," says Angela Kawski, Education & Outreach Manager. "It takes a lot of hands to carve the 200-plus pumpkins needed to line the Zoo's pathways, but it's such a fun time for everyone who joins us. We love seeing both familiar and new faces every year." All pumpkins carved during the event remain at the Zoo, to be used to decorate for North Shore Bank Zoo Boo 2026, held on Fridays and Saturdays throughout October. Community members are also welcome to drop off carved pumpkins at the NEW Zoo anytime during regular business hours, Sundays through Thursdays in October, starting on October 11th. The NEW Zoo & Adventure Park is continually in need of "fresh" pumpkins throughout the month. Pre-registration through its online RSVP system is strongly encouraged for the event. After registering, guests can arrive anytime between the hours of 4:00 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.
Hy-Vee targets senior traffic with monthly Wellness Day events. Share via: Hy-Vee is introducing Senior Wellness Day, a monthly morning event pairing its registered pharmacists and dietitians with breakfast deals to draw older shoppers into stores. The monthly events began Sept. 16 and run 7:30-9:30 a.m. on the third Wednesday of every month. During each event, the West Des Moines, Iowa-based grocer's health experts will cover timely topics including vaccines, staying healthy during flu season and enrolling for health insurance, information that grows more valuable as Medicare open enrollment approaches in mid-October. Attendees 60 and older can enjoy a $5 Balanced Plate breakfast, free coffee and 10 percent off vitamins, with some restrictions applying. Hy-Vee locations featuring both a pharmacy and hot food service will host the events at the Market Grille inside the store, a pairing that puts the program's health programming, foodservice and pharmacy traffic in the same trip. The employee-owned company operates more than 540 business units in nine Midwestern states with sales of more than $14 billion annually and more than 70,000 employees. Hy-Vee's launch adds a dedicated senior daypart to the wave of pharmacist- and dietitian-led in-store programming rolling through the industry this fall, alongside Kroger's September Wellness Tour and Walmart's new rural Health Ambassador pilot, as grocers lean on in-house health professionals to convert wellness credibility into store visits.
