Requirements

Responsibilities
  • Review mechanical designs of enclosures, connectors, and cables for EMC compliance.
  • Review printed circuit board schematics and layouts for emissions and immunity control.
  • Partner with vendors to define component specifications and validation procedures that meet EMC requirements at the system level.
  • Prepare comprehensive test plans, supervise test plan execution, and compile test reports.
  • Define validation requirements and train test engineers on collecting data at factories and Apple labs.
  • Troubleshoot electrical and mechanical causes of EMC failures and identify solutions acceptable to cross-functional partners.
  • Review and analyze data from multiple designs, present findings to peers, partners, and management, and recommend design changes.
  • Evaluate, design, and optimize EMC solutions for Apple products.
  • Apply first-principles thinking and fundamental physics to solve EMC challenges.
  • Collaborate with design teams, test engineers, and cross-functional partners to develop manufacturable EMC solutions.
  • Conduct design reviews, analyze test results, and provide clear, actionable guidance.
  • Share best practices and lessons learned to support first-pass success on future designs.
Desired Qualifications
  • A Master of Science in Electrical Engineering or a PhD with a specialization in electromagnetic fields and/or applications.
  • Experience with electromagnetic modeling and simulation tools such as CST, HFSS, and ADS.
  • Experience in one or more of the following fields: electromagnetic compatibility, electrostatic discharge, radio frequency/antenna, signal integrity, and power integrity.
  • Detailed understanding of design and testing of information technology equipment products for EMC compliance and deep knowledge in EMC/ESD debugging techniques.
  • Experience with MATLAB and scripting for test automation and data analysis.
  • Proficiency in schematic and layout review of printed circuit boards for emissions and immunity control.
  • Ability to perform CAD review of enclosures, connectors, and cables for EMC compliance.
  • In-depth knowledge of worldwide EMC regulations, test methods, and standards, including EN55032, EN55035, the IEC 61000 series, and the ETSI 301 489 series.
  • Experience with EMC lab equipment such as spectrum analyzers, vector network analyzers, oscilloscopes, and transmission line pulsers.

Apple's rumoured foldable iPhone is facing production challenges, with early manufacturing running at only a few hundred units per day, according to reports. Sept 3: BASF sued Apple on Thursday, accusing the iPhone maker of infringing the German chemical company's patented face authentication technology in many iPhone and iPad models. In its complaint, BASF's trinamiX unit said it spent the last decade developing technology to address a security gap that makes conventional face recognition systems vulnerable to spoofing, where fraudsters defeat face unlock features by using photographs, 3D-printed masks and silicone replicas. The complaint said Apple did not employ BASF's patented technology when it launched face authentication, known as Face ID, in 2017 with the iPhone X, but now uses it in a variety of iPhone 15, iPhone 16, iPhone 17, iPad Pro and other products. "Apple knew or should have known of the high probability that updating its iPhones and iPads to incorporate Face ID using material and skin detection" infringed seven trinamiX patents, causing "substantial damages and irreparable injury," the complaint said. BASF's lawsuit in the U.S. District Court in Midland, Texas seeks unspecified damages and a halt to further infringements. Apple did not immediately respond to requests for comment. The Cupertino, California-based company sold $196.5 billion of iPhones and $21.7 billion of iPads in the nine months ending June 27. According to the complaint, trinamiX's origins date from 2010, when BASF scientists working on organic solar cells made unexpected discoveries that led to the building of early three-dimensional camera prototypes. BASF created trinamiX in 2014 as a stand-alone entity to develop advanced 3D and material sensing technologies, and trinamiX holds more than 800 granted or pending patents worldwide, the complaint said.
