About the Job

Requirements

  • A Bachelor's degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering or a relevant engineering field is required.
  • At least 3 years of experience in automation equipment design, machine qualifications, and advanced manufacturing processes is required.
  • Strong written and verbal English communication skills are required.
  • Ability to work effectively in a global environment and operate independently under pressure is required.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and scale precision assembly and measurement processes that shape product quality and reliability.
  • Own end-to-end design, development, and bring-up of automated and semi-automated manufacturing equipment and fixtures for precision alignment, assembly, and measurement from concept through high-volume production.
  • Define equipment design requirements through detailed RFQs and RFPs, and lead design reviews with machine suppliers during development, bring-up, and post-ramp improvements.
  • Provide technical direction to third-party automation suppliers and contract manufacturers; travel to supplier facilities and factories for equipment bring-up, acceptance testing, and production builds.
  • Engage with product development teams to ensure new designs are mechanically manufacturable at scale; conduct machine design-for-manufacturing reviews and establish standard operating procedures and assembly standards across the product lifecycle.
  • Lead machine qualification activities, including factory and site acceptance testing, process capability indices (Cp/Cpk), gauge repeatability and reproducibility (GR&R), and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) analysis; apply design of experiments (DOE), statistical process control (SPC), and Six Sigma to validate scalability and process control.
  • Run structured experiments to characterize machine capability and improve throughput, yield, and downtime.
  • Drive failure analysis of yield detractors and reliability issues from equipment and process perspectives; compile data, develop corrective actions, and communicate findings to cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Organize cross-functional reviews covering machine requirements, design, qualification, and long-term capability.
  • Support warehouse automation process development across Asia-Pacific distribution centers.

Desired Qualifications

  • Knowledge of pneumatics, servo motors, 4-axis or 6-axis robotics, glue and adhesive dispensing, automated optical inspection (AOI), charge-coupled device (CCD) vision or laser systems, pick-and-place systems, programmable logic controllers (PLCs), and PC-based control systems is a plus.
  • Experience with design of experiments (DOE), failure analysis, and statistical process control (SPC), and the ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, including geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T), are preferred.
  • Experience with JMP and Six Sigma methodologies, and Python scripting for data analysis and automation, is a plus.
  • Familiarity with machine learning concepts and understanding how machine learning and artificial intelligence can support smart manufacturing applications are preferred.
  • Proficiency in tolerance analysis for parts and assemblies is preferred.
  • NX computer-aided design (CAD) experience is a plus.
  • Vietnamese and Mandarin language skills are highly preferred.
