About the job

Requirements
  • You have shipped multi-tenant software-as-a-service and production systems end to end, with solid computer science foundations including data structures, systems design, distributed systems, testing, and scalable architecture.
  • You are comfortable building application programming interfaces, data pipelines, and service integrations in Python.
  • You have built agent-first workflows, retrieval-augmented generation, structured output parsing, and evaluation harnesses for production artificial intelligence systems.
  • You can deploy, monitor, and maintain applications end to end on modern cloud platforms such as Supabase, Cloudflare, or Amazon Web Services, with attention to latency, cost, and observability.
  • You have hired engineers before and understand effective technical interviews and early engineering culture.
  • You can hold technical conversations with investors and product conversations with sole traders.
  • You take ownership of outcomes, make decisions under ambiguity, and revise decisions when evidence changes.
  • You build and ship iteratively while tracking and managing technical debt.
  • You measure success through customer outcomes and revenue rather than story points or lines of code.
  • Your actions build trust and strong partnerships.
Responsibilities
  • Own the end-to-end technology stack and the multi-year technical strategy, including data modelling and infrastructure.
  • Write, review, and deploy production code.
  • Own the agentic architecture, including retrieval-augmented generation, structured output, and human-in-the-loop gates; train, evaluate, and deploy models.
  • Build the engineering function by defining the hiring bar, writing job descriptions, running technical interviews, and setting engineering culture.
  • Own the technical narrative in investor conversations, due diligence calls, and partner meetings.
  • Identify what is protectable, what remains a trade secret, and what is published.
  • Partner directly with the current Founder in Residence, who is developing the project as CEO.
Desired Qualifications
  • Familiarity with FastAPI, Django, or Flask.
  • Familiarity with Supabase, PostgreSQL, and pgvector.
  • Previous experience in a founding position, such as Co-Founder, Founding Engineer, or first hire.
  • Experience building or contributing to developer platforms, internal tooling, or infrastructure automation relied upon by another team.
  • Experience with convolutional neural networks and computer vision.
  • A strong appreciation for design and user experience.
  • Understanding of UK construction compliance, including MCS, RECC, Part P, or Building Regulations, or the ability to learn it quickly.

About the company

Marble partners with scientists, engineers and operators to build climate-focused deeptech startups that reduce greenhouse gases, remove carbon, and cool the planet. Their main product is a venture studio that scours hard-to-abate climate problems and co-creates startup ventures with founding teams, starting at pre-seed, to bring breakthrough technologies to market. Founders-in-Residence work with Marble to identify high-impact climate opportunities and form companies with large emissions-reduction potential. Marble differentiates itself by actively creating and deploying radical, early-stage deeptech solutions rather than relying on traditional tech transfer, backed by climate and deep-tech investors. The goal is to move the world closer to net zero by delivering at least one gigaton of avoided or removed emissions through the startups they help build.

What believers are saying

  • CryoBio raised $1.3 million in February 2026, proving Marble can launch fundable spinouts.
  • July 2026 postings show active venture creation in geothermal and physical AI manufacturing.
  • Marble’s 2026 pipeline spans agriculture, energy, and industry, widening shots on goal.

What critics are saying

  • Follow-on dependence remains brutal; if 2027 markets tighten, studio economics collapse.
  • Deeptech timelines punish Marble when ammonia, geothermal, and DAC ventures need years before revenue.
  • One failed platform venture can taint the studio; a 2026-2027 flagship flop hurts recruiting.

What makes Marble unique

  • Marble’s July 2026 roles say 14 companies, 100% follow-on, and €250,000 inception funding.
  • It builds climate deeptech, not software: ammonia, cooling, DAC, geothermal, and manufacturing ventures.
  • CryoBio’s February 2026 seed validates Marble’s studio model in agriculture climate resilience.

CryoBio nets $1.3M to protect orchards from frost with novel antifreeze tech

New York-based CryoBio has raised $1.3 million in pre-seed funding to commercialise its novel frost protection technology for high-value crops including apples and grapes. The round was led by Marble, with participation from AgVenture Alliance, New York Ventures, Launch NY, FuzeHub, Klessig Trust and Jade Cove Partners. The company, a spin-out from venture studio Marble, has developed a solution addressing a growing problem exacerbated by climate change. Frost and freeze events caused $854 million in US crop losses in 2024, with damages reaching $3 billion in severe years. Co-founded by Murli Manohar and Abe Pressman, CryoBio claims its technology surpasses existing frost protection methods, which remain expensive or ineffective. The funding will expand operations in New York and support hiring in biochemical engineering, biomanufacturing and horticulture.

AtmoCooling Raises $2.6M for Seawater Cooling

AtmoCooling, a Hub71 startup, has raised $2.6M in pre-seed funding to scale its seawater evaporative cooling technology. The funding round was co-led by Nucleus Capital and Revent Ventures, with participation from others. The technology repurposes brine and seawater to create microclimates, reducing heat stress and supporting agriculture in arid regions. AtmoCooling is expanding pilot projects and forming strategic partnerships to enhance climate resilience in these areas.
