Mechanical EngineeringMechanical Maintenance and Reliability Engineering

About the job

Requirements
  • 3–6 years of experience in reliability engineering, sustaining engineering, field service engineering, or a closely related technical role with a strong failure analysis component.
  • Demonstrated experience conducting structured root cause analysis using formal methodologies such as 8D, FMEA, fishbone/Ishikawa, 5-Why, or equivalent, and producing formal RCA documentation.
  • Hands-on electromechanical troubleshooting experience, including understanding physical systems and independently performing bench-level validation.
  • Ability to form, design, and execute hypothesis-driven test plans and move from observation to structured investigation without waiting for direction.
  • Strong technical writing skills for clear, structured, usable RCA reports, preventative maintenance procedures, and failure documentation for technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Comfort operating without established processes and building structure where none exists.
  • Ability to travel up to 50%.
Responsibilities
  • Own fleet-wide root cause analysis for systemic failures across deployed products, extending initial failure characterization from Diagnostic Engineers through deeper analytical and hands-on investigation to identify the true root cause.
  • Form and test hypotheses through bench-level and field validation; design test protocols and execute them directly or with Diagnostic Engineers and Field Maintenance.
  • Produce formal RCA reports documenting failure evidence, causal chain, validated root cause, and corrective action recommendations for engineering review and corrective action tracking.
  • Drive RCA findings to verified closure with Quality by validating corrective actions.
  • Distinguish systemic failure patterns from one-off incidents and escalate confirmed systemic issues through appropriate cross-functional channels.
  • Maintain the deployed fleet failure knowledge base, including documented RCAs, failure modes, corrective actions, and trend data to inform PM program development and future diagnostic work.
  • Develop and deploy the preventative maintenance program for all deployed Slip Robotics products, defining schedules, procedures, and intervals across SlipBot and SlipLift ALRs and establishing a structured, repeatable function within Service Delivery.
  • Define PM schedules, procedures, task descriptions, and maintenance intervals for SlipBot and SlipLift ALRs using field failure history, product knowledge, and reliability analysis.
  • Partner with Field Maintenance and Field Engineering to validate PM procedures in the field before full deployment, then iterate based on technician feedback and observed outcomes.
  • Own rollout and ongoing management of the PM program across active customer sites, coordinating with Field Maintenance to ensure tasks are executed on schedule.
  • Track fleet-wide PM compliance and identify and resolve execution gaps with Field Maintenance management.
  • Update PM procedures as new failure modes are identified through RCA or field observation.
  • Serve as the primary reliability partner to Diagnostic Engineering by guiding complex failure characterization, reviewing initial analyses, and identifying when ticket-level failures warrant fleet-level investigation.
  • Partner with Quality on RCA closure, co-owning corrective action validation and ensuring findings are documented and tracked to resolution.
  • Surface confirmed systemic findings to the Field Engineering Manager, Quality, and, where appropriate, Engineering and Manufacturing, using structured documentation.
  • Support the Field Engineering Manager in building Service Delivery reliability infrastructure, including documentation standards, RCA templates, PM tracking systems, and escalation criteria.
  • Contribute to Diagnostic Engineer development by sharing failure knowledge, explaining analytical methods, and helping build diagnostic capability across the Field Engineering team.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience in robotics, industrial automation, warehouse automation, EV systems, or a hardware-as-a-service environment where assets are deployed and operated at customer sites.
  • Prior experience building or formalizing a preventative maintenance program, including defining intervals, writing procedures, and deploying them to a field team.
  • Familiarity with fleet monitoring tools, telemetry data, or operational dashboards used to identify failure trends across a distributed asset base.
  • Experience in a reliability or sustaining function absorbed by an operations or field services team rather than supported by a dedicated engineering organization.
  • Proficiency with Jira, Zendesk, Confluence, or similar platforms used for ticket management and technical documentation.

About the company

Slip Robotics provides the SlipBot automated loading system as a Robots-as-a-Service for loading docks. The SlipBot can load or unload a full truck trailer in about five minutes by staging freight at the dock and moving it as a single unit, with no facility changes or IT setup required. The system includes SlipController for control, SlipView for live/historical data, and attachments like SlipBot+Rack and SlipBot+Bin to handle non-uniform items, all delivered via annual subscription that covers hardware, software, and data access. The company aims to reduce dock loading time and truck dwell, increase throughput, improve safety by removing forklift entry into trailers, and scale deployments across the logistics ecosystem with data-driven insights for customers.

What believers are saying

  • SlipLift reached initial deployments in 2026 and broader availability throughout the year.
  • Slip hired a dozen employees since summer 2026, including field and engineering roles.
  • Customers like John Deere, GE Appliances, Nissan, Valeo, and Four Hands validate demand.

What critics are saying

  • Berkshire Grey's Scoop launched February 2026, challenging Slip in dock unloading.
  • Symbotic acquired Fox Robotics in 2026, intensifying dock-automation competition with distribution scale.
  • Slip depends on warehouse adoption cycles; a failed SlipLift ramp would crush RaaS economics.

What makes Slip Robotics unique

  • SlipLift decouples robot from payload, serving multiple dock doors since February 2026.
  • Slip Robotics loads and unloads trucks in five minutes without facility or IT changes.
  • SlipBot and SlipLift target both short-haul and 20,000-pound regional freight operations.

Slip Robotics launches SlipLift to automate loading of 20,000-pound freight across more routes

Atlanta-based Slip Robotics has launched SlipLift, a new platform extending autonomous trailer loading and unloading beyond short-haul routes to heavier freight, regional distribution and last-mile delivery. The system supports payloads up to 20,000 pounds and requires no facility, trailer or IT infrastructure modifications. SlipLift decouples robots from payloads, allowing fewer robots to service more docks whilst maintaining the speed and safety of Slip's existing SlipBot platform. The system uses customisable SlipCarriers that stack when empty to save space. Operators control the process via handheld devices whilst remaining outside trailers. The platform enables pre-staging of freight for last-mile operations and faster morning load-outs. Initial deployments are underway, with broader availability planned throughout the year. Slip Robotics' existing clients include John Deere, GE Appliances and Nissan.
