Requirements
  • Currently pursuing a degree in Engineering, preferably Mechanical, Materials, Chemical, Electrical, Aerospace, or a related field
  • Experience with SolidWorks, Catia, CAD/AutoCAD, Revit, 3DX or other 3D modelling software
  • PLC code programming and structure with Siemens, Beckhoff, Rockwell PLC
  • Experience using MATLAB/Simulink for modeling physical systems
  • Knowledge of lithium-ion battery technology and electrochemistry
  • First-principle physics understanding of electrical and mechanical systems, power delivery, energy storage and transformation, and thermo-fluids engineering
Responsibilities
  • The candidate will be working with a multi-disciplinary Engineering team to aid support in development and execution of DOEs, CAD modelling, fixturing, troubleshooting of controls, issue analysis, data acquisition, operator training, technical documentation, etc.
  • The Manufacturing Engineer intern will contribute to the development and ramp of cell manufacturing equipment and processes for Tesla Energy Batteries, and in addition to developing working on ramping the line the Manufacturing Engineer works with cross-functional teams to test, validate, and rollout equipment to production.
  • In this role, the intern will be working under the mentorship of a senior engineer on developing and testing processes, helping install and ramp new production machines, and troubleshooting issues that affect production runtime and quality targets
  • The Mechanical Design Engineering Intern will contribute to the design, install and ramp of battery cell manufacturing equipment, designing and developing a new generation of leading edge, high speed, ultra-high scale automated manufacturing equipment, and will work with cross-functional teams to test, validate, and roll-out equipment to production.
  • The pilot line engineering intern will be an essential part of the Cell Manufacturing Engineering Team, with hands-on experience on pilot tools and an overall understanding of battery manufacturing process
  • The Industrial Engineer Intern applies Industrial engineering principles to create, develop and improve manufacturing processes and process flow, and will work alongside the cell manufacturing engineering teams to develop and improve, new equipment and processes, associated with safety, quality, throughput, and cost
  • Learn and understand the anode and cathode calendaring and laminating process with subject material experts, assist in data mining and correlation of variables using software programs to help establish future process control limits, assist with programming control limits and HMI warnings to protect equipment and produce high quality product
  • The pilot line engineering intern will be an essential part of the Cell Manufacturing Engineering Team, with hands-on experience on pilot tools and an overall understanding of battery manufacturing process
  • Anode and Cathode dry powder mixing is currently scaling with new technology creating multiple opportunities to maintain plant ramp plan with high quality material delivery to calendaring

Tesla shares up 57% since joining S&P 500 in 2020, but index fund returned 105%

Tesla shares have underperformed the S&P 500 since joining the index in December 2020, despite significant business growth. A $10,000 investment in Tesla at its December 2020 entry price of $695 would be worth approximately $15,700 today, whilst the same amount in an S&P 500 index fund would have grown to about $20,500 before dividends. Tesla's revenue has more than tripled since 2020, exceeding $100 billion over the trailing 12 months. The company delivered nearly 480,000 vehicles in the second quarter of 2024 alone, matching its entire 2020 output. Net income reached $3.8 billion over the past four quarters, more than five times its 2020 earnings. Despite this growth, Tesla's stock has returned approximately 8% annually since joining the index, compared with the S&P 500's 13% annual gain over the same period.

Musk calls terrestrial fusion 'super dumb' as Tesla energy revenue hits $3.1B and capex surges to $25B

Tesla's energy division generated $3.1 billion in revenue during Q2 2026, up 13% year-over-year, whilst storage deployments rose 41% to 13.5 GWh. The company is backing CEO Elon Musk's solar-focused vision with over $25 billion in annual capital expenditure and $30 billion in debt facilities. Musk dismissed terrestrial fusion projects as "puny little reactors" and "pet science projects" in a September post, predicting solar will eventually supply 100% of global energy needs. The US Energy Information Administration forecasts solar reaching approximately 20% of the energy mix by 2050. Capital spending surged 141% to $5.8 billion, pushing free cash flow to negative $1.1 billion. Tesla is targeting volume production of its Megapack 3 battery storage system in Texas this year whilst expanding solar manufacturing and semiconductor facilities.

Tesla cuts China prices for first time in two years as Q3 sales fall 12.4%

Tesla is offering discounts on Shanghai-built Model 3 and Model Y vehicles in China for the first time in nearly two years, reducing prices by 5,000 and 10,000 yuan respectively, plus an 8,000-yuan insurance subsidy. The promotion expires at month-end and appears aimed at boosting third-quarter deliveries. The move comes as Tesla's China sales struggle. Through July 2026, the Shanghai factory delivered just over 266,000 vehicles domestically, down 12.4% year-on-year. July deliveries fell nearly 33% year-on-year, with August declining 7.9% month-on-month. Meanwhile, Chinese competitors are gaining ground. BYD's August sales rose 17.8% year-on-year to 440,293 vehicles, whilst NIO delivered 35,836 units, up 14.5%. Whilst discounts may lift deliveries, they threaten margins. Tesla's operating income dropped 57% last quarter despite 23% revenue growth, with operating margin falling to 1.4%.

Tesla's FSD approved in Slovenia ahead of potential EU-wide vote in October

Tesla has secured approval for its Full Self-Driving (FSD) Supervised system in Slovenia, marking the sixth European country to authorise the technology. The announcement follows the Netherlands' provisional authorisation in early April, making it the first EU country to permit Tesla's FSD system. Tesla stated that an EU-wide approval vote could take place as early as 6 October. The company recently released a dataset covering its FSD testing in Europe and North America. Four other European countries have approved the driver-assistance technology, whilst Finland and Greece are evaluating potential approvals. France, which raised safety concerns in July, has begun testing two FSD-equipped Tesla vehicles. Drivers must remain attentive and responsible for the vehicle whilst using the system.

Palantir vs. Tesla: Which AI stock is the better buy?

Tesla and Palantir Technologies are both positioning themselves as AI stocks, but their approaches differ significantly. Tesla is applying AI to the physical world through self-driving cars, Robotaxis, humanoid robots, and automated energy systems.
