Republic Services records year on year income boost.

Republic Services records year on year income boost. The waste and recycling company says it received an average of $16 per ton more for recycled commodities this summer compared with July through September 2025. Published October 29, 2026 Phoenix-based Republic Services, Inc. has reported third quarter 2026 adjusted earnings per share of $1.94 on net income attributed to shareholders of $592 million. The profitability figures for this July through September represent increases over its results one year earlier, when Republic recorded net income attributable to shareholders of $550 million and adjusted EPS of $1.76. Republic says it has invested approximately $1.1 billion in the first nine months of 2026 in what it calls "value-creating acquisitions." In the most recent quarter, the national waste and recycling services firm says the average price it received for recycled commodities price per ton sold at its material recovery facilities (MRFs) and other recycling centers during the third quarter was $142. That figure, which covers old corrugated containers (OCC), used beverage cans (UBCs) and plastics produced at its specialized Polymer Centers, increased by $16 per ton, or 12.7 percent, year on year. In an investor presentation posted to its website this September, Republic says by 2029 it expects its Polymer Centers to yield $220 million in annual revenue and to contribute $70 million annually in adjusted earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization (EBITDA). A pie chart in the same presentation shows recycling remains a smaller part of the overall revenue landscape compared with collection and disposal (including landfill operations). That chart assigns 3 percent of revenue to recycling compared with 17 percent for transfer station and landfill-related revenue. Most of Republic's revenue, about 80 percent, involves hauling, collection and other fee- and contract-based environmental services it describes as having "an annuity-type profile." Regarding the quarter just completed, Republic President and CEO Jon Vander Ark comments, "We delivered strong third quarter results that underscored the resilience of our business model and the effectiveness of our strategy." Continues Vander Ark, "We remain focused on disciplined pricing, effective cost management and strategic investments that are designed to strengthen our competitive position and create long-term value for our customers and shareholders." Among benchmark figures in the third quarter, Republic says its year-on-year total revenue growth of 8.2 percent includes 4.8 percent organic growth from its recycling and waste business, 2.1 percent growth from its environmental solutions business and 1.3 percent growth from acquisitions. The company says its third quarter 2026 revenue was achieved while maintaining a margin of 13 percent. Republic has maintained its profitability in the face of rising operating costs portrayed in its financial statement. The company says it paid $180 million for fuel in the summer of 2026, representing a 50 percent increase compared with the $120 million spent last summer. Republic's wage, salary and benefits costs also rose year on year, by 19 percent, outpacing its 8.2 percent increase in revenue. In its investor presentation, Republic says it has a dedicated M&A team that has "built a robust pipeline" of potential acquisitions. Currently, Republic says its 60,000 employees operate 208 active landfills, 260 transfer stations, 87 landfill gas and renewable energy projects, and 84 recycling centers handling 6 million tons per year of secondary materials and commodities.
