Requirements
  • Eligibility for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Nova Scotia.
  • Eligibility for specialist certification with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, for specialist applicants.
  • Membership with the Canadian Medical Protective Association.
  • Active admitting privileges at the QEII site through the Nova Scotia Health Credentialing Committee.
  • Up-to-date Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support certification.
Responsibilities
  • Provide direct inpatient care for patients admitted to the Hospitalist Medicine Service at the QEII Health Sciences Centre.
  • Provide the full range of inpatient clinical care in keeping with the Canadian Society of Hospital Medicine’s Core Competencies in Hospital Medicine.
  • Provide most responsible physician coverage for admitted patients and ensure all laboratory, imaging, consultation, and other reports are received and reviewed daily.
  • Participate equitably in after-hours, weekend, and night call coverage.
  • Participate in daily patient-flow discussions.
  • Apply the Home First Philosophy of Nova Scotia Health to efficient discharge planning, with a focus on expected length of stay discussed with patients and caregivers at admission.
  • Participate in Hospitalist Medicine Service quality-improvement, operational, and research initiatives.
  • Attend site-based physician meetings.
  • Maintain competence and commitment to high-quality patient care.
  • Participate in teaching through the established core teaching service with Dalhousie Family Medicine.
Desired Qualifications
  • Membership in the Society of Hospital Medicine, Canadian Chapter.
