About the job

Requirements
  • Deep experience with SQL and Snowflake, including schema design, query optimization, ETL pipelines, incremental refresh, and caching strategies.
  • Experience with Python for backend web services, application programming interfaces, and data-processing automation.
  • Hands-on Linux experience operating servers independently over Secure Shell, running long-lived services behind a reverse proxy, and diagnosing process, networking, file-system, and performance issues.
  • Container experience including image building, deployment, and troubleshooting networking, storage, and runtime issues.
  • Daily production experience with agentic artificial intelligence coding tools such as Claude Code, including running parallel sessions and reviewing generated code for edge cases, incorrect output, and unsound patterns.
  • Experience validating data and system behavior against live systems rather than relying on documentation, naming conventions, or generated explanations.
  • Experience developing and maintaining analytics products, reports, dashboards, and dashboard visualizations.
  • Experience handling employee or other sensitive personal data under row-level security and data-access restrictions, with understanding of legal data privacy responsibilities, duty of care, and accountability.
  • Experience owning delivery end to end with minimal direction and making implementation decisions independently.
  • Experience delivering against competing deadlines and shifting priorities while maintaining data accuracy and proactively setting stakeholder expectations.
  • Ability to partner effectively with colleagues and partners across different global regions.
  • Ability to operate at a senior leader or executive level by providing data clarity and actionable insights.
Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, and deploy reports, dashboards, and analytics across the employee lifecycle to enable data-driven decisions for business partners and leadership.
  • Build and optimize data models, schemas, and views in Snowflake and relational databases for reliable analytics products.
  • Develop and maintain Python backends, application programming interfaces, and web frontends for internal people tools and employee-facing applications.
  • Build and operate ETL and data-refresh pipelines between Snowflake and operational databases, including scheduling, incremental refresh, caching, and data-integrity validation.
  • Automate build, containerization, deployment, and configuration management across Linux-based infrastructure.
  • Use agentic artificial intelligence coding tools as the primary development method by scoping and decomposing tasks for parallel sessions, then reviewing and correcting generated code before release.
  • Establish and maintain metric definitions, ensure consistent reporting across surfaces, and validate figures against source data before release.
  • Maintain technical documentation and codebase context for a large reporting estate and for artificial intelligence tooling.
  • Re-engineer existing analytics and reporting systems to improve simplicity, standardization, and security while delivering new features.
  • Partner with People Analytics colleagues and internal technology teams to deliver analytics solutions.
  • Respond directly to senior business leaders on analytical questions by providing data insights and recommendations for decision-making.
Desired Qualifications
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Familiarity with Python web frameworks such as Flask or FastAPI.
  • Experience with Python data-processing libraries such as NumPy and pandas, and awareness of data science and statistical analysis techniques.
  • Experience building or operating services that make internal systems available to artificial intelligence tooling, such as Model Context Protocol servers.
  • Experience delivering on a shared data platform where pipeline changes are centrally owned, including scoping minimal changes, evidencing them, and sequencing configuration and code releases.
  • Experience agreeing on metric definitions with business partners and maintaining those definitions consistently across reporting surfaces.
  • Experience working directly with senior business leaders by gathering requirements, presenting data and findings, explaining caveats to non-technical partners, and responding when figures are challenged.

Apple to hold second event in October, with touchscreen MacBook Pro expected on October 28

Apple will hold its second marquee event this month on October 28 in Los Angeles, a rarity for the company. The event carries the tagline "Pro and tell." Apple is expected to unveil its first touchscreen MacBook Pro, plus a new iMac and iPad Mini. Chief executive officer John Ternus has said he wants more frequent product launches. Apple's third-quarter revenue rose 16% to $109.4 billion, and earnings per share rose 29% to $2.02. iPhone sales grew 22% to $54.3 billion. Apple's market value is about $5 trillion, and its stock is up 26% this year.

iPhone Duo waits are 50 days at US carriers versus 102 at Apple, Bank of America says

Buyers of Apple's iPhone Duo foldable may wait far less by ordering through US carriers. A Bank of America note dated October 19 puts the average carrier wait at about 50 days, against 102 days on Apple's own store. The global weighted average wait stands at 82 days. China, Japan, the UK, Germany, France and Australia all show 95 days, pushing delivery to about January 22. Analyst Wamsi Mohan said carrier availability "appears to be much better than Apple's own website," possibly due to varying inventory allocations. Carrier purchases usually tie buyers to that carrier's instalment plan. Wait times for the iPhone 18 Pro are shrinking, falling to eight days globally and four in China. Apple reports September quarter results on November 2.

Apple hits $5T market cap but trades at 40x earnings: buy now or wait for a dip?

Apple is one of the best-performing stocks on US markets, though it trails rivals in artificial intelligence (AI). Its shares are up about 26% this year, giving it a market cap of $5 trillion. Only Nvidia, at around $5.3 trillion, is worth more. The stock trades at close to 40 times trailing earnings, which raises expectations. Apple reports earnings next month, its first under new chief executive officer John Ternus, who took over from Tim Cook at the start of September. Investors will watch demand for the iPhone 18 and the foldable iPhone Duo, which starts at $1,999. Weak demand could trigger a correction. The author advises waiting to buy, as Apple's revenue has grown by less than 6% over the past three fiscal years.

Zuckerberg thanks Apple's new CEO on X, not Threads, for Mac Studios running Meta's AI model

Meta chief executive officer Mark Zuckerberg publicly thanked Apple's new chief executive officer, John Ternus, on October 15 for help running Meta's latest AI model on Apple hardware. He posted on Elon Musk's X, not Meta's own Threads, to tag him. The model, Muse Spark Open, has 816 billion parameters and is free to download. It runs on two or four Mac Studios linked together, each with Apple's M5 Ultra chip. A Mac Studio with that chip starts at $5,499. The thanks mark a thaw. The companies clashed over privacy, and Apple's 2021 tracking changes cut an estimated $10 billion from Meta's 2022 revenue. Neither company has said whether more joint projects are planned.
