About the company

Matter Intelligence builds credit assessment tools that go beyond traditional FICO scores. Its offerings analyze a wide range of signals and data to judge an individual’s potential, providing a more complete view of creditworthiness. The system works by running advanced algorithms on diverse data sources to produce a risk score that financial institutions can use when deciding whether to extend credit. This approach differs from many competitors by focusing on broader, signals-based indicators and inclusive finance, aiming to capture aspects of credit risk that conventional scores miss. Revenue comes from selling or licensing its credit assessment services to banks, lenders, and other partners who benefit from improved risk insights and the ability to serve a larger pool of customers. The goal is to expand access to financing and enable more people, including underserved groups, to qualify for credit through more accurate and equitable assessments.

Could layered data captured from space help insurers in the future?

Could layered data captured from space help insurers in the future? Sure satellite data is already very useful, especially during Cat events and the subsequent claims process. But layered data, something more nuanced and detailed, could well give insurers unique insights into all kinds of risks. Here's the word; Matter Intelligence, a California-based remote sensing startup, has emerged from stealth, unveiling its plans to launch space sensors capable of capturing never-before-seen data about all matter on Earth, from surface to atmosphere. Matter specializes in advancing sensor infrastructure that captures incredibly detailed, beyond-visible data of both natural and artificial materials - creating the most comprehensive "extreme resolution" Earth observation dataset ever compiled. This data will power industries and helps AI models better understand and predict real-world events like never before. The startup has secured $12 million in seed funding led by Lowercarbon Capital, with participation from Toyota Ventures, Pear, Mark Cuban, and E2MC. The funding will accelerate the development of Matter's sensing infrastructure. "Matter is pushing the boundaries of what's possible in Earth observation," said co-founder and CEO Vishnu Sridhar. "We are developing sensors that allow us to understand material makeup at the molecular level - capturing composition, temperature, and structure from orbit with sub-meter precision. This is a game changer for industries that rely on detailed, real-time data to make critical decisions." Next-Generation Hyperspectral Technology for Real-World Applications Matter Intelligence's sensors use hyperspectral imaging, a method that captures thousands of narrow spectral bands of light to distinguish unique material properties. This allows Matter to detect and classify objects and materials that are invisible to traditional optical, radar, or multispectral sensors. Matter's sensors, designed for deployment on satellites, drones, and aircraft, will offer the world's first sub-meter hyperspectral and thermal satellite capability. The startup's first satellite, EARTH-1, will create the first global encyclopedia of Earth's material composition, imaging the entire globe with more than 500 times the information density of today's existing sensors. By pushing hyperspectral imaging boundaries, Matter is driving the next evolution in mapping and analytics, providing critical information across multiple sectors such as: * National Security: Detection of hidden military assets, tracking activities in sensitive areas, and monitoring critical infrastructure. * Insurance: Global COPE data such as direct measurement of roof properties and building occupancy. * Energy & Resource Management: Identification of critical mineral reserves including rare earth elements and lithium, monitoring pipeline integrity, and tracking gas emissions including methane. * Environmental Monitoring & Agriculture: Early detection of diseased crops, monitoring biodiversity by identifying plant species, assessment of acid mine drainage, identification of oil spills. Matter's sensors redefine remote sensing with unprecedented precision. Unlike traditional hyperspectral technology, which often falls short of user needs for detail and material differentiation, Matter captures composition, temperature, and structure with a new standard of quality. Traditional systems can't deliver the resolution and quality needed for actionable data, but Matter provides images that are orders of magnitude more information dense than today's hyperspectral systems - with science-grade quality and sub-meter resolution. Matter's data accelerates geospatial computer vision, unlocking mass adoption of Earth observation and enabling powerful predictive capabilities and resilience. EARTH-1 will be Matter's first satellite and provide the world's first sub-meter hyperspectral and thermal imaging capability. Matter will soon announce EARTH-1's launch date. EARTH-1 will map and monitor Earth's materials in real time, from mineral composition and vegetation health to atmospheric conditions. With this satellite, Matter is building the first global encyclopedia of Earth's material composition - capturing the most detailed, multi-dimensional data across the planet.

Matter Intelligence to debut spectral roof tech.

Matter Intelligence to debut spectral roof tech. September 29, 2026 Matter Intelligence, an InsurTech applying spectral sensing and AI to property risk, is set to launch a new space-based property intelligence offering for insurers at ITC Vegas 2026. The tool is designed to uncover roof wear that standard imagery fails to pick up. The launch follows a proof-of-concept completed with one of the five largest property and casualty insurers in the US. The product uses spectral data captured from space, analysed by AI, to evaluate the physical state of residential roofs across large numbers of properties. Insurers can begin POC trials immediately, and full deployment with carriers is scheduled for Q1 2027. When assessing a home, property insurers have traditionally leaned on inputs such as satellite pictures, building age and information supplied by the policyholder. Although useful, these inputs do not necessarily capture how a structure is changing over time. Matter Intelligence aims to fill that gap by spotting early signs of decline that ordinary images overlook, offering a more detailed understanding of risk ahead of any claim. The platform supports three key points in the insurance cycle. At underwriting, it evaluates roof condition when a quote is being prepared, helping carriers cut down on site visits and referrals. For portfolio management, it highlights clusters of deterioration and tracks how property condition shifts. In claims, it contrasts a property's state before and after an event, helping separate fresh damage from existing wear and aiding triage and fraud checks. Its uses are not limited to roofs. The company says its data can also enhance existing flood and wildfire models by supplying details on the physical features and state of insured buildings. Matter Intelligence was established by scientists who had earlier built sophisticated sensors for NASA/JPL and US defence initiatives. The firm has taken spectral sensing, which records data beyond the range of human vision and standard cameras, and repurposed it for property insurance. Paired with AI capable of reading those signals across large volumes, the technology offers carriers a fresher and more impartial view of the properties they insure. Matter Intelligence co-founder and CEO Vishnu Sridhar said, "The problem isn't that insurers lack data. It's that much of that data tells them about a property rather than showing them its actual physical condition. We're giving insurers a way to bring the condition of the asset itself into their risk decisions." "We're not trying to replace the models insurers already use. We're giving them a better view of the physical world those models are trying to predict. If you can see deterioration earlier and measure property condition consistently at scale, you can prepare sooner and make better-informed decisions from underwriting to claims."
