About the job

Requirements
  • Enjoy working in a fast-paced environment and wear multiple hats, including responsibilities outside your historical comfort zone.
  • Have 5+ years of backend development experience and demonstrated willingness or eagerness to own frontend work; be willing to learn React deeply rather than defer it to someone else.
  • Have experience developing products built on large language models or machine learning.
  • Be proficient in Python, FastAPI, PostgreSQL, containerization, and scaling microservices.
  • Be comfortable with, or excited to learn, TypeScript, React, and modern frontend tooling.
  • Have experience building products from zero to one.
  • Be able to find and use appropriate resources to solve open-ended problems.
  • Use modern coding harnesses such as Claude Code, Codex, or Cursor daily as a primary way to ship production code, not merely as autocomplete.
  • Be comfortable building and consuming Model Context Protocol servers to integrate internal tools, data, and workflows into the development loop.
  • Have a strong point of view on AI-assisted code review, automated testing, and maintaining quality while shipping with agents.
  • Be located in the San Francisco Bay Area or willing to relocate.
  • Have a Bachelor of Science or Master of Science degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field.
Responsibilities
  • Work closely with the founding team and early customers to build an AI-powered product.
  • Own features end-to-end by architecting backend server logic, databases, and application programming interfaces, building the frontend, and shipping to production.
  • Partner with the designer and product team to translate user needs into shipped experiences, rather than delivering only application programming interfaces for another team to integrate.
  • Engage in the full application lifecycle, including coding, debugging, testing, and deploying.
  • Use coding agents to increase development speed while maintaining quality, and continuously evolve how the team builds, reviews, and tests software.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience working in a small startup environment, such as Seed or Series A.
  • Full-stack experience across backend, frontend, and infrastructure.
  • Understanding of data lakes or data warehouses.
  • Understanding of Transformers, attention mechanisms, or graphics processing unit inference.
  • Experience with Amazon Web Services, Supabase, LaunchDarkly, or Betterstack.
  • Experience building Model Context Protocol servers, custom agents, or internal artificial intelligence development tooling.
  • Having published, blogged, or shared opinions about modern artificial intelligence-assisted development workflows.
