Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Architectural Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical field/job-related experience.
  • At least 4 years of direct field experience executing or managing commissioning in a hyperscale data center, mission-critical facility, heavy industrial environment, or similar setting.
  • Working knowledge of large-scale electrical delivery systems, including uninterruptible power supply systems, switchgear, and generation, as well as mechanical cooling systems such as chilled water plants, hydronics, and computer room air handler or computer room air conditioner units.
  • Experience directing or overseeing Level 3 Pre-Functional, Level 4 Functional Performance Testing, and Level 5 Integrated Systems Testing activities onsite.
  • Strong ability to read, interpret, and field-verify mechanical, electrical, and plumbing drawing packages, Single-Line Diagrams, and Sequences of Operation.
  • Experience managing onsite vendors, contractors, or specialized testing firms.
  • Ability to work onsite daily at the assigned data center location.
Responsibilities
  • Serve as the primary onsite Apple commissioning representative for a specific data center campus and drive the day-to-day execution of the commissioning lifecycle across Levels 1–5.
  • Partner continuously with the Data Center Places, Operations, Engineering, and Commissioning teams to align site-specific execution with Apple's global commissioning playbooks, test procedures, and pass/fail criteria.
  • Manage, coordinate, and audit the daily onsite activities of third-party Commissioning Agents, general contractors, mechanical and electrical subcontractors, and vendor field engineers.
  • Conduct regular field walks and quality assurance and quality control inspections to verify equipment installation against approved Basis of Design, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection drawing packages, Single-Line Diagrams, and piping and instrumentation diagrams before energization or pressurization.
  • Drive the daily site commissioning schedule, coordinating load bank deployments, specialized testing equipment, vendor visits, and localized test readiness.
  • Manage the site-specific commissioning issue log using tools such as CxAlloy, track punch-list items, drive root-cause analysis in the field, and ensure timely resolution of equipment deficiencies.
  • Validate field execution of Pre-Functional Testing and Functional Performance Testing for mechanical systems, including chillers, cooling distribution units, and air handling units, and electrical systems, including uninterruptible power supply systems, switchgear, and generators.
  • Enforce onsite adherence to Methods of Procedure, mechanical Lockout/Tagout, and energized electrical work safety protocols during complex switching and live system testing.
  • Act as the immediate escalation point for field engineering challenges and collaborate with Data Center Engineering, Data Center Operations, Data Center construction managers, and third-party design engineers to resolve physical integration issues.
  • Facilitate operational turnover by ensuring field training is completed, operations and maintenance documentation accurately reflects the physical build, and the local facility operations team is prepared to take ownership.
Desired Qualifications
  • Previous experience as a dedicated onsite commissioning engineer or Resident Engineer for a major data center build or campus expansion.
  • Industry-recognized commissioning certifications such as Certified Commissioning Authority, Certified Commissioning Professional, or Building Commissioning Professional.
  • Hands-on experience with commissioning management software platforms such as CxAlloy or Facility Grid for daily field tracking and issue management.
  • Practical field experience troubleshooting Building Automation Systems, Direct Digital Control, and Electrical Power Monitoring Systems.
  • Strong understanding of field safety standards including OSHA and NFPA 70E, Methods of Procedure execution, and hazardous energy control.
  • A demonstrated track record of identifying field coordination clashes, resolving complex physical engineering challenges, and driving continuous-improvement feedback to global engineering teams.
  • Proficiency with artificial intelligence tools for field-report summarization, automated submittal parsing, and punch-list data tracking.

Qualcomm's Apple patent renewal secures $1.28B licensing revenue despite modem shift

Qualcomm has renewed its global patent licensing agreement with Apple, effective from 1 April 2027. Despite Apple developing its own modems and reducing chip purchases from Qualcomm, the iPhone maker will continue paying royalties to use Qualcomm's wireless technology patents. Qualcomm's licensing unit generated $1.28 billion last quarter at a 69% margin. The company's automotive revenue reached $1.59 billion, up 61%, marking its 23rd consecutive quarter of double-digit growth. Management expects non-handset growth to accelerate from 24% in fiscal 2026 to over 60% in fiscal 2027. Qualcomm shares trade at 15.34 times free cash flow, compared to Broadcom's approximate 43 times multiple. The company generated $12.82 billion in free cash flow in fiscal 2025 and returned $12.60 billion to shareholders. However, handset revenue fell 20% to $5.09 billion, with Android revenue expected to decline 20% this year.

Apple CEO Ternus eyes faster product releases and management cuts

Apple CEO John Ternus is exploring a faster, more flexible product strategy, potentially moving away from the company's traditional spring and autumn release schedule, Bloomberg reported. Meta's AI agent Muse threatens Apple's ecosystem as BofA warns of user intent interception risk

Bank of America has identified a new competitive threat to Apple from Meta Platforms' AI agent, Muse.
