PoE security lighting: lights that respond to Ajax alarms and camera events.

PoE security lighting: lights that respond to Ajax alarms and camera events. PoEWit fixtures run on the same Cat6 cable as your cameras. An alarm or a camera event can bring a parking lot or a driveway to full light in under a second. Here is how it works, where it fits, and where line-voltage lighting still wins. PoE security lighting runs PoEWit LED fixtures on the same Cat6 cable as your cameras, with no 120-volt wiring at the fixture. It programs them to react to an Ajax alarm or a camera event in under a second. Rivas Technology Group installs it low voltage for South Sound businesses and estates from Kent. By Ivan Rivas, Owner and Sales Engineer · 2026-09-17 · Updated 2026-09-17 What is PoE security lighting? Lighting powered and controlled over a network cable, programmed to react to a security event. A PoE switch sends low-voltage DC power and data to each LED fixture over one twisted-pair cable, so there is no 120-volt wiring at the fixture (Cisco, PoE lighting). Because every fixture is a network device, it can take instructions from a camera, an alarm output, a motion sensor or a control system. PoEWit builds the fixtures and the triggers Rivas Technology Group use for this, and the same cabling that carries your cameras carries the lights. Its commercial PoE lighting page covers the panels and wall packs for interiors; this post is about the security use outdoors and at the perimeter. What is PoEWit? A Fort Lauderdale company, founded in 2019, that makes Power-over-Ethernet lighting, sensors and drivers for smart homes and commercial buildings (PoEWit catalog). Its outdoor line includes OS-series floodlights and WP-series wall packs, some with PoE pass-through ports that power a camera and a motion detector from the same cable (PoEWit). Around the fixtures sit an MD-1 outdoor motion and light sensor and an IP-1 dry contact and voltage trigger (PoEWit IP-1). An MV-1 driver runs 12 to 30 volt landscape lights, sirens or strobes (PoEWit MV-1). Everything is configured in the free PoEWit app, and there are Control4, Crestron and URC drivers (PoEWit). PoEWit also publishes direct integrations with Verkada, Rhombus, Avigilon Alta and Eagle Eye Networks camera platforms (same source). Rivas Technology Group is an approved PoEWit dealer. How can lighting react to an Ajax alarm or a camera event? Through a dry contact, a webhook from the camera platform, or Control4 programming. Four paths, from simplest to most integrated: * Ajax alarm to lights. An Ajax Relay Jeweller is a dry contact relay that runs scenarios by alarm, by arming and by schedule (Ajax Relay manual). The PoEWit IP-1 reads two dry contact inputs and two voltage inputs. When an input is assigned to a lighting group, it turns those lights on at a set intensity, steady or flashing, for a set duration (PoEWit IP-1). Relay closes on alarm, IP-1 sees it, the lot goes to full. * Camera analytics to lights. On a supported camera platform, an analytic event such as motion or loitering sends a webhook to PoEWit's cloud. The cloud routes the response to the right fixture group. PoEWit states typical end-to-end latency of 180 to 220 milliseconds (PoEWit outdoor security). Eagle Eye Networks documents this as an event-based API integration (Eagle Eye Networks). * Motion sensor to lights. A PoEWit MD-1 on the same switch triggers lights on motion and ambient light level, with different intensities by time of day (PoEWit MD-1). * Control4 programming. Where a site runs Control4, both Ajax and PoEWit have drivers, so an Ajax alarm event can fire a PoEWit lighting scene alongside cameras and notifications. The IP-1 also has two voltage outputs, so the same event that lights the lot can fire a strobe or a siren on the MV-1 (PoEWit IP-1). Full light does two jobs: it makes the intruder visible and it lets the camera record in color instead of infrared. That is why PoEWit calls it the active half of a camera system, and why Rivas Technology Group pair it with the cameras on its business security page. Why is PoE lighting a low-voltage install? Because the fixture carries Class 2 power over data cable, which Washington regulates as limited-energy electrical work. The state's (06) limited energy specialty covers signaling and power-limited circuits, including intrusion alarms, lighting control systems and similar low-energy equipment in all occupancies (WAC 296-46B-920). That work still requires an electrical contractor license, and Rivas Technology Group holds WA electrical contractor license RIVASGL799DR, active, bonded and insured (L&I lookup). Cable design follows the National Electrical Code. Bundles carrying more than 60 W per cable fall under the ampacity table in NEC 725.144, which sets bundle sizes by wire gauge and temperature rating (Ethernet Alliance). Rivas Technology Group size the PoE switch budget, the cable gauge and the bundle count per project. The 120-volt feed to the switch and the UPS is line-voltage work; on commercial sites that goes to its licensed trade partners under its design and supervision. What are the energy and control benefits? Per-fixture control, metered power and lights that run through an outage. Every PoEWit fixture dims, schedules and groups on its own. A lot can sit dimmed after hours and go to full on an event instead of burning at full all night (PoEWit). A managed PoE switch reports power per port, so you can see what each fixture draws. With a UPS on the PoE switch, exterior lights and the cameras on their pass-through ports stay up when the building loses power (PoEWit outdoor lighting). The control side folds into the same scenes as the rest of the building through the Control4 driver. One Close scene dims the interior and arms the perimeter, the way it does on its smart lighting page. Where does PoE security lighting fit? Parking lots, warehouses, gated estates and new construction. In each case the cabling is either already going in or already there: * Parking lots and building perimeters. Wall packs on the same runs as the cameras, at full on a camera event and dimmed the rest of the night. * Warehouses and yards. Fixtures along the fence and loading doors tied to the Ajax outdoor detectors, with the IP-1 in the same closet as the hub. * Gated estates. Driveway, gate and dock lighting on the MV-1, triggered by an Ajax DualCurtain Outdoor or a camera line crossing, with the intercom and gate on the same network. * New construction and tenant improvements. The cheapest case: one low-voltage crew pulls lighting, cameras and access points on the same day, in the same pathways, before drywall. Where does line-voltage lighting still win? High-output pole lights, long distances and sound existing wiring. Ethernet runs top out at 100 m from the switch, so a fixture at the far corner of a five-acre lot needs a closet nearby or a different approach. Large lots lit from 30-foot poles need more lumens than a PoE fixture delivers. A building whose line-voltage lighting is in good shape and not being remodeled rarely justifies pulling it out. Sites with no power at all, such as a construction yard or a remote gate, are a case for its solar security tower. It carries its own cameras and lighting. When line-voltage is the right answer, Rivas Technology Group say so and design the controls to work with it. What drives the cost? Fixture count, switch PoE budget, cable runs and UPS runtime. PoE fixtures cost more than conventional LED per unit; the saving is in installation, because low-voltage cable runs with the cameras instead of a separate electrical mobilization. Every proposal is fixed price, and the instant quote gives you a first figure in minutes. Need it designed? Rivas Technology Group designs and installs PoEWit security lighting with Ajax and cameras from Kent across south King County and Pierce County. That includes Tacoma, Auburn, Puyallup, Federal Way and Gig Harbor. It shares a rack with the cabling on its commercial infrastructure page. Book a site assessment and Rivas Technology Group will show you what the lot looks like at full light.

Introducing the TK74 Touchscreen Intercom.

Introducing the TK74 Touchscreen Intercom. Sep 16, 2026 Since the launch of its first intercom in 2023, Verkada Intercoms have helped thousands of organizations bridge the gap between visitor experience and building security, facilitating effortless communication at the door. But as its footprint has expanded, Verkada Inc. saw a clear need for an entry solution that could bridge high visitor traffic, complex directory navigation, and advanced credentialing without adding operational friction. Today, Verkada Inc. is excited to announce the TK74 Touchscreen Intercom, its most full-featured and intuitive intercom yet. By combining a vibrant touchscreen, high-definition video, versatile credential options, dynamic multi-tenant support, and robust cloud management, the TK74 brings modern, enterprise-grade security to even the most complex entryways. Modern unlock experience. The TK74 carries forward all the flexible access control capabilities of its previous generation of intercoms, eliminating the need to install a standalone card reader alongside the intercom. To take it a step further, the TK74 also incorporates Face Unlock. By integrating its high-fidelity visual camera stream with built-in depth sensing, Face Unlock on the TK74 delivers sub-second, frictionless entry for enrolled users using facial recognition. Because the system uses onboard liveness detection to help guard against photo or video spoofing, users can securely unlock doors hands-free simply by walking up to the device with a credential they always have - their face - providing the ultimate blend of high-security access control and modern convenience. For admins, managing Face Unlock is simple. Admins can easily enroll users by uploading photos in Command, leveraging APIs, or sending self-enrollment links that allow users to submit a photo directly from their phone or laptop. The TK74 also integrates seamlessly with Verkada Guest, allowing visitors to enable Face Unlock during sign-in to access approved doors, removing the hassle of provisioning physical guest badges. For admins, managing Face Unlock is simple. Admins can easily enroll users by uploading photos in Command, leveraging APIs, or sending self-enrollment links that allow users to submit a photo directly from their phone or laptop. The TK74 also integrates seamlessly with Verkada Guest, allowing visitors to enable Face Unlock during sign-in and access approved doors, removing the hassle of provisioning physical guest badges. Vibrant touchscreen. At the heart of the TK74 is a bright 7" LCD touchscreen display with up to 1,000 nits of brightness, transforming the entry experience from a simple button press to an intuitive, dynamic interface that elevates every interaction at the door. * Two-way video calling: The TK74 introduces two-way video calling, available on Desk Station, Pass app (iOS), or Command (iOS), bringing face-to-face communication directly to the door. When a call comes in, the intercom streams high-definition video of the entryway to internal operators, front desk staff, or security personnel, giving them immediate visual context to verify visitors, inspect physical credentials, and assess the surroundings before granting access. On the outside, the TK74 displays crisp video of the answering party, giving visitors a clear visual of who they're speaking with and creating a modern, collaborative call experience. * Clear call status: Beyond handling two-way video calls, the display provides clear, real-time visual prompts that guide visitors through every step of the entry process. The display updates to reflect live call states, such as "calling" or "access granted," so guests stay informed. * QR codes: The screen serves as a high-visibility, illuminated scan target for visitor QR codes. By providing a clear target area directly on the display, the TK74 makes it easy for trusted guests, vendors, and delivery drivers to quickly scan their credentials and gain entry without frustrating alignment issues or delays. * Custom branding: Organizations can personalize the display with high-resolution company logos, custom wallpapers, and tailored welcome messages to match brand identity. Whether greeting prospective clients or directing daily foot traffic, the TK74 turns standard door hardware into an interactive, branded touchpoint. * Smart ambient and theme controls: To help ensure the display is easy to read without wasting power, the TK74 continuously adapts to its environment. Built-in proximity sensors wake the screen as visitors approach and return it to a low-power state when the entryway is clear. The display also automatically toggles between light and dark modes based on surrounding lighting conditions, improving readability on the screen and maintaining sharp contrast under direct sunlight and eliminating harsh glare at night. Suitable for multi-tenant buildings. Combining core security, access control, and video operations, the TK74 is built to serve as a versatile entry solution for a variety of buildings, including multi-tenant environments. * Intuitive directories: Traditional multi-tenant entry systems often rely on low-contrast displays or static registries that quickly become outdated. The TK74 replaces this with a dynamic directory that visitors can access by scrolling through the responsive touchscreen or navigating via physical buttons, helping ensure effortless operation even if visitors are wearing gloves. Each listing highlights the tenant's unit number alongside a custom company logo, giving businesses or departments distinct branding while helping guests recognize their destination at a glance. For visitors who are unsure of the exact unit or name of the tenant they're visiting, especially for sites with hundreds of tenants, AI-powered voice directory can assist in guiding them to the correct recipient. Tenant licenses can be purchased per site (rather than per intercom), and because tenant licenses operate independently of intercom software licenses, large organizations with dozens or even hundreds of intercoms in their deployment can share a single, unified tenant database across all of their devices. Tenant calling is available on both the TK74 and the TD63. * Scalable cloud management: Site management across tenants is now centralized through a new tenant management page within Command. From this page, administrators can assign programmable start and end dates to tenants, which will automatically add or remove them from directories as leases change. Tenant profiles also support sophisticated call flows, giving tenants the option to route incoming calls to different receivers depending on the time or day of the week. Any profile updates made in Command, like changing display names or logos, are instantly reflected across all intercoms configured with tenant directories. Additional improvements. While the TK74 introduces powerful two-way video calling, multi-tenant functionality, and Face Unlock entry, it remains true to the high-performance video security and audio experiences provided by its previous intercoms: * Fully-featured Verkada security camera: Powered by an onboard 5MP sensor with a 130° horizontal field of view, wide dynamic range, and IR night vision, the TK74 acts as a full security camera, capturing clear, full-focus video coverage in nearly any lighting condition. Additionally, a new CV75 system on chip supports Verkada's latest AI-powered video analytics features, such as activity detection. * Powerful audio: The TK74 features an upgraded 5W, 90dB speaker and a 3-meter microphone array backed by acoustic echo cancellation and automatic gain control. This upgraded hardware delivers richer sound and greater perceived loudness across key voice frequencies, helping ensure crisp, two-way conversations even in high-noise environments. Additionally, audio recorded during calls integrates directly into Command's live captions and live translation, allowing security teams to quickly search, review, and analyze call logs for fast investigations. Availability. The TK74 Touchscreen Intercom will be available in the US, Canada, UK, EU, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, South Korea, and Japan in October 2026. The TK74 is priced at $3,999. All intercoms require an intercom device license (LIC-INT), priced at $399 (1-year), $1,199 (3-year), $1,999 (5-year), and $3,999 (10-year). For multi-tenant deployments, a tenant license (LIC-ITT) is added per site, per block of 10 tenants at $399 (1-year), $1,199 (3-year), $1,999 (5-year), and $3,999 (10-year). Introducing Verkada Sound Systems: seamless, multi-site sound management.

Introducing Verkada Sound Systems: seamless, multi-site sound management. Sep 16, 2026 Today, Verkada Inc. is thrilled to announce Verkada Sound Systems, one of its newest additions to the Verkada platform. Sound Systems is a cloud-managed audio solution that enables organizations to manage ambient music and announcements from a single platform, replacing the fragmented vendors and hardware that enterprise audio has traditionally required. A typical enterprise-grade audio setup pairs an amplifier from one vendor with speakers from another, a commercially licensed streaming subscription managed separately, a legacy PA system reserved for emergencies, and an entirely separate alarms solution. Multiply that across dozens or hundreds of locations, and a simple amenity becomes a tangle of vendors and support lines. Sound Systems solves this problem, replacing the patchwork of hardware, software, and content vendors organizations have historically had to stitch together with one coherent system. To understand the benefits, let's hear directly from one of its beta customers already using Sound Systems to bring consistency to their in-store experience. A single pane of glass for every site. Once in Command, Verkada's cloud-managed software platform, administrators can seamlessly handle everything from everyday ambient music to instant announcements. Every part of an organization's audio environment - hardware diagnostics, ambient music, and announcements - is configured and monitored from Command, eliminating the need for separate apps, local consoles, and vendor portals that enterprise sound systems have traditionally required. Integration with Soundtrack. Through an integration with Soundtrack, a leading provider of commercially licensed music, organizations can stream curated music directly from Command, without having to manage external media players and separate licensing agreements. Administrators can browse an expansive library of playlists and deploy licensed music across sites in real time. Because playlists refresh regularly, spaces stay sounding fresh rather than repetitive, wherever they're deployed across a global footprint. Instant announcements. Sound Systems also lets organizations deliver announcements to any site in seconds, directly from Command. Using text-to-speech or a device's built-in microphone, administrators can send an announcement to selected locations in seconds. Using built-in translation capabilities, announcements can also be automatically translated and streamed sequentially in multiple languages to help support facility-wide understanding. Streamlined, enterprise-scale cloud management. Whether managing a handful of speakers or thousands, Sound Systems delivers the same seamless control. Devices can be organized into spaces and zones to easily target specific room types and locations with the right music. Changes can be made from virtually anywhere via the web or mobile app - whether adjusting volume, triggering an announcement, or switching tracks. Devices can also be added or relocated freely, without the fixed infrastructure traditional systems require. Admins can apply changes at the organization, site, subsite, or individual space or zone level, and can see the online and offline status of every Verkada device in their deployment at a glance. Admins can also grant different team members different levels of access, so a regional facilities manager and a corporate IT administrator each see exactly what they need. Hardware for virtually any deployment. Sound Systems launches with two new hardware lines. Organizations can choose to migrate fully to Verkada with network speakers, or take a gradual approach and modernize their existing equipment at whatever pace works for them with network audio players. Network Speakers. Verkada Network Speakers are all-in-one, PoE-powered indoor and outdoor speakers that function without a dedicated hardware processor, amplifier, or rack. The NS151 is a 4-inch speaker suited to desks, offices, and small rooms. The NS261 is a 6.5-inch in-ceiling speaker designed for discreet, whole-room coverage. The NS631 is a 6.5-inch IP66-rated surface-mount speaker, designed to withstand inclement conditions in outdoor spaces. Each model connects over Ethernet, with the NS151 additionally supporting WiFi for instances where running network cable isn't practical. Network Audio Players. For organizations with amplifiers, speakers, and audio systems already in place, Verkada Network Audio Players bridge that equipment to the cloud. Network audio players give organizations the freedom to integrate Sound Systems with any third-party speaker that fits their specific needs. The NP21 offers two line-level outputs for smaller deployments, while the NP81 scales up to sixteen for larger, more complex installations. Both models bring the benefits of cloud management to hardware that organizations have already invested in, avoiding a costly overhaul and letting them migrate to Verkada on their own schedule. Sound Systems' audio pipeline supports lossless FLAC streaming, preserving full audio fidelity from the source - suited to both rich background music and intelligible announcements. Extending the Verkada platform. Sound Systems also extends the Verkada platform, providing additional, powerful integrations with other Verkada products. Paired with Alarms, it can deliver AI-powered deterrence, playing a warning message the moment a camera detects loitering or other suspicious activity, and escalating the message in real time if the activity continues. Paired with Desk Station, front-desk and facilities staff can queue a song, deliver announcements, or adjust volume with a single tap, without requiring full Command access. Availability. Starting in early October, the NP21 ($1,199), NP81 ($2,999), NS261 ($999), and NS631 ($1,199) will be available in the US, Canada, UK, EU, Australia, and New Zealand. The NS151 ($899) will be available later in 2026 in the US, Canada, UK, Australia, and New Zealand. Organizations can start a free 30-day trial, which includes one device and full access to the Command management platform, to experience the system firsthand. This blog post contains forward-looking statements. Please keep in mind that forward-looking projections are subject to change, including general release timeline, product features and functionalities, certifications and pricing.
