Requirements
  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing is required.
  • Three years of nursing experience are required; critical care or emergency room experience is preferred.
  • Knowledge of patient- and family-centered practice, including conveying respect and collaborating with patients, families, and designated care partners, is required.
  • Cultural awareness and the ability to connect effectively with people from diverse backgrounds are required.
  • Effective communication skills are required, including the ability to transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas, information, and needs.
  • The ability to promote high levels of interdisciplinary collaboration is required.
  • Basic computer skills are required.
  • Basic Life Support certification from the American Heart Association is required.
  • A Registered Nurse license in Pennsylvania is required.
  • The role requires the ability to lift and carry 40–50 pounds, push or pull patients, stand and walk frequently to continuously, and perform role-specific activities such as kneeling, bending, squatting, and cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
Responsibilities
  • Provide hospital-wide operational oversight across all shifts.
  • Facilitate patient movement, staffing, emergency management, clinical coordination, and collaboration across departments.
  • Plan, lead, and coordinate the provision of quality care and service from a hospital-wide perspective.
  • Serve as the off-shift liaison for departments without on-site leadership during non-business hours.
  • Provide leadership, consultation, and collaboration in a multidisciplinary environment.
  • Recognize patients and their families or designated care partners while providing safe, compassionate, and coordinated care based on their preferences, priorities, needs, cultural beliefs, and values.
  • Communicate with and support the interprofessional team, patients, families, and designated care partners.
  • Serve as a communication liaison for external callers by providing directions or resources to facilitate resolution.
  • Provide leadership and direction for operational activities across the organization, departments, units, and interdepartmental activities.
  • Coordinate patient movement and flow across the health system with unit leadership.
  • Support department leadership in managing clinical excellence and safe patient care delivery to meet professional, regulatory, hospital, and department standards.
  • Communicate patient-experience quality feedback to staff and enforce strategies that sustain a patient-centered culture.
  • Partner with the Nursing Leadership Team to improve colleague experience and support initiatives for professional staff, nursing staff, and other colleagues.
  • Partner with security services and administrative leaders to enforce workforce safety and environment-of-care strategies.
  • Collaborate with resource-management staffing coordinators to optimize deployment of workforce resources.
  • Review staffing-deployment decisions and balance schedules, manage vacation requests, distribute holiday requirements fairly, address last-minute changes caused by call-offs or activity surges, and reconcile timekeeping and scheduling records before director payroll sign-off.
  • Serve as a clinical resource regarding policies and procedures, patient standards, performance improvement, and risk-management issues.
  • Communicate accurately and appropriately with nursing staff and other health professionals in individual and group settings.
  • Facilitate the goals and objectives of the Department of Nursing and the hospital.
  • Coach and support leaders and staff in continual improvement.
  • Lead education and professional development for the administrative nursing leadership team.
  • Ensure annual mandatory education modules are completed on time.
  • Identify opportunities for ongoing education and professional development.
  • Ensure licenses and certifications remain current.
  • Communicate operational changes and other time-sensitive information to the team.
  • Coordinate supervisors across all three campuses.
  • Practice within Jefferson Health policies and procedures.
Desired Qualifications
  • Critical care or emergency room nursing experience.
  • A Master’s Degree.
  • One year of demonstrated leadership and management experience.
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support certification from the American Heart Association.
