What believers are saying

  • Subscriptions grew: ServiceNow reported $3.877 billion in subscription revenue for the June 2026 quarter, up 24.5% year over year.
  • Hybrid work is established: ServiceNow says most staff have flexible arrangements, requiring two or more office days weekly.
  • Security work expanded: the April 2026 Armis acquisition added protection for industrial equipment, medical devices, and connected hardware.

What critics are saying

  • Subscription margins narrowed: in June 2026, ServiceNow kept 73.5% of subscription revenue after direct costs, versus 80% a year earlier.
  • Remote roles limit relocation: ServiceNow requires staff to remain within their employment state, province, region, or country.
  • Older versions lose support: ServiceNow supports two release families and schedules upgrades for customers who fall behind.

What makes ServiceNow unique

  • Customers get separated systems: ServiceNow assigns each customer its own software instance and database, unlike shared tenant designs.
  • Outages get business context: ServiceNow's configuration database maps servers and applications to the business services depending on them.
  • Customers choose upgrade timing: ServiceNow's separate instances let enterprises schedule releases independently from other customers.

Over 25% of S&P 500 stocks are down 40%+: four bargain tech picks, from Netflix to Oracle

More than 25% of S&P 500 stocks are down 40% or more from their highs, even with the index near record levels, as of October 8, 2026. The Motley Fool sees that as a chance to hunt for bargains in tech. It names four picks. Netflix trades at about 18.5 times 2027 analyst earnings estimates, and advertising should drive its growth. Oracle has a $664 billion backlog in cloud infrastructure, but carries heavy debt and burns cash. ServiceNow, hit by the 2026 software sell-off, trades at 7.5 times forward sales as it pushes into agentic AI. AppLovin trades at 13 times 2027 earnings estimates. Its revenue rose 53% last quarter to $1.9 billion.

CFOs at Chevron, ServiceNow and Nasdaq say AI must earn capital; ServiceNow targets $500M savings

Chevron, ServiceNow and Nasdaq finance chiefs say AI projects must prove their worth before getting funded. They spoke on a panel at the Fortune Most Powerful Women Summit in Santa Barbara on Tuesday. Chevron's chief financial officer, Eimear Bonner, said AI "has got to compete for capital" and cannot be "a science experiment." She wants a clear path to value and results that reach the bottom line. ServiceNow's Gina Mastantuno said CFOs must also weigh the cost of falling behind rivals. The company expects $500 million in savings this year, largely from using its own products. Nasdaq's Sarah Youngwood sorts investments by time horizon and tracks AI metrics such as coding speed, client retention and token costs.

ServiceNow vs. Palantir: can faster AI growth justify paying 139× vs. 31× cash flow?

Palantir Technologies trades at 139 times trailing free cash flow compared to ServiceNow's 31 times, but investors are paying the premium for faster AI-driven growth. Palantir's June-quarter revenue surged 93% to $1.94 billion, with GAAP operating income reaching $912 million, about 47% of revenue. ServiceNow's second-quarter subscription revenue rose 24.5% to $3.88 billion. Current remaining performance obligations increased 21% to $13.2 billion. Operating cash flow reached $587 million, with free cash flow at $473 million after property purchases. Institutional ownership data shows ServiceNow's holder count increased to 115 from 108 in Q1, whilst Palantir's fell to 86 from 96. Palantir had 60.18 million shares short on 15 September, approximately 2.8% of float. Both companies offer different enterprise automation approaches, with the valuation gap reflecting Palantir's exceptional growth trajectory.
