About the job

Requirements
  • At least 5 years of experience as a full-stack or forward-deployed engineer in a production Software as a Service environment.
  • Strong product judgment and a track record of deciding when to build, abstract, configure, or push back.
  • Experience working on customer-facing deployments, integrations, or migration-heavy environments.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with executive-facing credibility, including with municipal chief information officers or department heads.
  • Ability to operate under ambiguity and own high-impact, revenue-sensitive problems.
  • Strong coding ability in TypeScript/Node.js or a similar technology.
  • A startup-oriented approach and ability to move quickly without over-engineering.
Responsibilities
  • Unblock complex enterprise deployments by diagnosing and resolving technical and workflow blockers during high-stakes launches, including migrations off legacy systems.
  • Partner with Sales and Deployment on late-stage deals, providing technical feasibility judgment and credibility with senior municipal stakeholders.
  • Travel to complex or high-value municipalities to understand constraints firsthand and accelerate execution.
  • Build targeted code or configuration when necessary, treating each bespoke fix as a candidate for productization rather than a permanent one-off.
  • Translate recurring enterprise requirements into scalable abstractions and escalate durable requirements to core teams to shape roadmap decisions.
  • Determine when to build, configure, or push back, protecting the core platform from fragmenting under enterprise pressure.

About the company

GovWell provides cloud-based software-as-a-service for local governments, offering a suite of integrated modules that streamline core processes such as Building and Codes, Planning and Zoning, Code Enforcement, Licenses and Permits, and Public Works. The platform automates workflows, digitizes paper-based tasks, and makes it easier for residents to access services. It differs from competitors by focusing exclusively on municipalities, delivering an end-to-end set of modules within one system, and pricing based on jurisdiction size with a minimum of $5,000 per year. Since launching in 2023, GovWell has grown to serve 12 states with about 400,000 residents and has raised funding from investors like Work Bench and Bienville Capital. The company's goal is to improve government efficiency and service delivery, helping communities become safer and more vibrant through digital transformation.
