Requirements
  • The applicant must be at least 18 years old.
  • The applicant must have at least 2 years of experience working with children, including camps, childcare, tutoring, or nannying.
  • The applicant must be able to plan and implement group activities.
  • The applicant must have completed 12 credits of 100-level or above college coursework and possess a GED or high school diploma.
  • The applicant must complete the minimum required STARS training.
  • The applicant must hold CPR and first aid certification.
  • The applicant must complete pre-employment tuberculosis testing and receive the required measles, mumps, and rubella vaccination.
  • The applicant must hold a food worker card.
  • The applicant must pass the Portable Background Check in the statewide MERIT registry.
  • The applicant must be able to work the stated weekday before-school, after-school, and occasional non-school-day schedules at the assigned school.
  • Employees must adhere to abuse prevention policies, maintain appropriate boundaries, complete required training, report suspicious or inappropriate behavior, and comply with mandated reporting requirements.
Responsibilities
  • Plan and implement culturally relevant and developmentally appropriate activities using the curriculum provided by the YDCoE.
  • Supervise a group of children to ensure their health and safety and provide a positive experience.
  • Provide guidance to staff and volunteers overseeing children's group activities when assigned.
  • Communicate day-to-day, confidential, and evaluative information professionally with parents and guardians.
  • Follow YMCA policies and procedures related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention, and emergencies.
  • Help maintain an appropriately developed, clean, and presentable program site.
  • Prepare and serve snacks when needed and clean the snack area.
  • Assist parents with child check-in and check-out.
  • Assume responsibility for program operation when designated and qualified DCYF staff are not on the premises.
  • Provide on-site support for the school-based Play Everyday Program.
  • Attend required staff meetings and training sessions.
  • Ensure staff are properly screened, trained, supervised, and held accountable to the organization's abuse risk management standards.
Desired Qualifications
  • Applicants age 21 or older are preferred.
  • Leadership or supervisory experience of 1-2 years is preferred.
  • Knowledge of and previous experience with diverse populations is preferred.
  • The ability to speak a language in addition to English is preferred.
