ProgressSoft wins Best AI Transformation Initiative at The Digital Banker Awards 2026. Singapore - October 15, 2026 ProgressSoft has been named winner of Best AI Transformation Initiative at The Digital Banker's Global AI Innovation Awards 2026, recognizing the company's use of artificial intelligence to transform one of banking's longest-standing operational bottlenecks: manual signature verification. The company received the award at the program's virtual gala, following a thorough evaluation by The Digital Banker's judging panel. This year's program drew entries from 87 institutions across 34 markets, with each initiative assessed on innovation and differentiation, client and business impact, depth of implementation, and scalability and responsible AI. At the heart of this achievement is ProgressSoft's Intelligent Signature Recognition, an enterprise AI platform that automates signature verification across a wide range of banking and document-based operations, with check clearing among its strongest and most established use cases. Designed for commercial banks, central banks, clearing houses and other financial institutions, the solution uses machine learning, deep neural networks, analytical modeling and pattern recognition to power its verification decisions. The judges highlighted the solution's measurable impact. Financial institutions using Intelligent Signature Recognition have achieved up to 60% growth in straight-through processing and a two-thirds reduction in clearing users, alongside faster processing, stronger fraud controls and more consistent verification decisions. The win comes just weeks after Intelligent Signature Recognition was named global winner in the AI Use Cases category at the WITSA Global AI Awards 2026 in Taipei, marking the latest international recognition for the solution this year. "At ProgressSoft, AI innovation means building intelligence into the core of the solutions financial institutions rely on every day, so it improves how they operate from within," said Fadi Naser, Director of AI and ML at ProgressSoft. "Signature verification is one strong example of that approach in action. This recognition reflects the depth of our AI capabilities across our payment and financial solutions, and our commitment to bringing them to more of the challenges our clients face." ProgressSoft extends its appreciation to The Digital Banker and its judging panel for this honor and for spotlighting the AI initiatives reshaping financial services. Looking ahead, the company will continue extending AI across its payment solutions, helping institutions automate more of their operations while maintaining the accuracy and control that critical infrastructure demands. ProgressSoft strengthens CEMAC financial industry engagement. Bangui - October 4, 2026 ProgressSoft concluded its participation as Gold Partner at Bangui Financial Days 2026, held from 1 to 3 October in Bangui, Central African Republic, drawing strong interest from across the CEMAC financial industry in the infrastructure that now connects the region. Over three days, the forum brought together leaders from across the financial industry of the six CEMAC member states, from central bank governors and regulators to senior executives and decision-makers of financial institutions, around a shared agenda of strengthening business financing and advancing the structural transformation of Central African economies. Throughout the forum, delegates engaged directly with ProgressSoft's experts to explore the capabilities shaping the next stage of modernization, from centralizing payment processing through the Payments Hub Platform to automating signature verification with Intelligent Signature Recognition and digitizing check deposit at the point of capture through Check Capture and Deposit. Each drew considerable interest from institutions now advancing their own modernization agendas. Building on the experience of the successful launch of SYSTAC 2 with the Bank of Central African States (BEAC), the centralized electronic clearing house that brought 71 participants across the six CEMAC member states onto a unified regional infrastructure through a single region-wide cutover, ProgressSoft's Daniel Ngoh took part in a panel discussion on financial inclusion, digital services and territorial proximity. The panel explored the key conditions for successful proximity-based financial inclusion, examining how interoperability, mobile money, agent networks and products tailored to local needs come together in practice, and why closer collaboration between banks, fintechs, microfinance institutions and telecommunications operators remains central to extending financial and payment services across the region. ProgressSoft's participation in the forum reflects its growing relationships with the financial industry in CEMAC and reaffirms its commitment to advancing financial and payment infrastructure across the region, where it continues to support financial institutions in building efficient, unified and future-ready financial ecosystems. About ProgressSoft Since 1989, ProgressSoft has partnered with banks, central banks and payment service providers to deliver the industry's most comprehensive and evolving portfolio of financial and payment solutions. ProgressSoft presents the pillars of intelligent payment ecosystems at Sibos 2026. Miami - October 1, 2026 ProgressSoft launched Intelligence as it Stands, its approach to artificial intelligence in payments, at Sibos 2026 in Miami, where discussions centered on the future of digital finance in AI-driven economies. The approach sets out the pillars of intelligent payment ecosystems, helping financial institutions transform data into actionable insight and enhance decision-making. As financial institutions continue to explore AI-driven transformation, the industry focus is shifting from adopting artificial intelligence as a standalone capability toward embedding intelligence within the core of payment operations. ProgressSoft argued that the challenge is rarely the intelligence itself, but where it stands: too often, AI sits alongside payment operations rather than within them, analyzing what has already happened instead of taking part in the decisions that matter. Intelligence as it Stands spans three pillars: transforming fragmented payment information into a trusted operational record, enabling contextual transaction evaluation in real time, and embedding insights into governed operational workflows. Each pillar is delivered through a key ProgressSoft solution: Message Depot, Smart Payment Analysis and Payment Investigation Management. These form part of a wider portfolio of AI-enabled solutions that is gaining traction across financial institutions and earning recognition for live, operational AI use cases that deliver measurable efficiencies. ProgressSoft took the Exhibitor Stage to present its intelligence perspective to attendees in the session "The Structural Decision That Sets Digital Leaders Apart." The session guided them through the technology choices that determine how quickly financial institutions can launch new services, connect to emerging ecosystems and enable intelligence where critical decisions are made. It made a compelling case that the decision now separating digital leaders from the rest is where intelligence stands within the payment ecosystem. The session triggered in-depth conversations on transformation plans that continued long after it ended. Through its participation at Sibos 2026, ProgressSoft reinforced its commitment to helping financial institutions build intelligent payment ecosystems where data, technology and operational processes work together to enable continuous innovation and support the evolution of digital finance.
BEAC lays foundation for interoperable payments across Central Africa. Regional payment upgrades expose need for interoperable digital identity The Bank of Central African States (BEAC) has rolled out some initiatives lately which suggest a coordinated push aimed at enhancing its contributions to the building of trusted digital payment infrastructure within the Central African sub-region. BEAC is the banking regulator for six countries that make up what is called the CEMAC bloc, namely Cameroon, Chad, the Central African Republic, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, and the Republic of Congo. According to the bank's leadership, these initiatives are intended not only to facilitate digital payment transactions among member states, but also to accelerate the push towards a regional financial inclusion target of 60 percent by 2029 and 75 percent by 2032. In July, the bank launched what it described as a CEMAC QR code system, a platform designed to allow payments across participating banks and mobile money wallets with transactions routed and cleared through regional payments operator GIMAC, which already runs an interoperable payments system, GIMACPAY. Its key feature is interoperability as the code works for merchant payments regardless of which bank is used. A user needs to scan it using their smartphone at a point-of-sale to make a payment. BEAC Governor Yvon Sana Bangui said at the launch event in Cameroon's economic capital Douala that the platform is a major step towards the central bank's efforts to modernize the sub-region's financial infrastructure for secure and interoperable payments. Early last month, BEAC, in partnership with instant payments firm ProgressSoft, also launched an upgrade to a centralized electronic clearing platform for retail payments dubbed SYSTAC 2. Authorities described the platform as future-ready with a yet-to-be-activated module that can support real-time payments. For now, the system facilitates the processing of everyday low-value payments across the CEMAC region, and handles a variety of transactions namely credit transfers, card payments, and checks. The system has the participation of 59 commercial banks, six national treasuries, and six national BEAC directorates. SYSTAC 2 works alongside SYGMA V10, BEAC's upgraded Real-Time Gross Settlement (RTGS) system, which handles large-value and interbank settlements. Continental digital payments. Still in July, BEAC announced it had formally joined the Pan-African Payment and Settlement System (PAPSS), a continental digital payments initiative promoted by the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA). This gives CEMAC a connection to the continent-wide infrastructure for cross-border payments and settlements, potentially linking the six countries of the sub-region more closely to payment systems elsewhere across Africa. According to BEAC authorities, the CEMAC QR Code is designed to complement this accession to the PAPSS, as it is intended to help standardize merchant and wallet identification, thereby preparing the interface between domestic retail payments and this new continental infrastructure for cross-border flows. The rollout of the QR code comes after a pilot in Gabon which was described as successful. With these efforts, BEAC is seen to be trying to strengthen interoperable payments within CEMAC, and at the same time connecting the sub-region to the wider continental digital payments infrastructure. Just after the PAPSS integration, Cameroon's Minister of Trade, Luc Magloire Mbarga Atangana, issued a statement calling on enterprises to take advantage of the move to boost their AfCFTA business engagements. PAPSS is a major initiative intended to support the AfCFTA's African single market vision. Experts said in an interview with Biometric Update in December last year that interoperable digital public infrastructure such as digital ID systems can potentially bring out the full value of the single market idea. Harmonized eKYC, identity layer? The efforts by BEAC to enhance payments interoperability are commendable. However, there have been concerns about whether that can really scale if digital Know Your Customer (eKYC) remains fragmented across the region. This question raises another important one. Should the next focus be to develop a shared identity layer to support those transactions? According to the AfCFTA's Digital Trade Protocol and its Annexes, trusted digital trade among African nations requires interoperable digital identity, authentication, trusted credentials, and interoperable digital transactions. For the moment, there is no common digital ID initiative within CEMAC, even as evidence exists that interoperable digital ID schemes in other parts of the continent such as in Ethiopia and Nigeria have substantially driven financial inclusion. Nigeria has even been recognized as an AfCFTA Trade Champion, partly because of its robust identity infrastructure. Although CEMAC member states have national ID systems, none of them has a fully digital identity infrastructure. eKYC by banks in member countries is still done separately, whereas a harmonized approach could drastically cut cost as seen elsewhere. The idea of an interoperable African digital ID has been on the table some time, including at the Internet Governance Forum 2025. West Africa has been exploring avenues for implementing something similar at a regional level. At the ID4Africa AGM 2026, stakeholders made the case for interoperable regional digital ecosystems as the next frontier of Africa's digital transformation. ID4Africa Executive Chairman, Dr. Joseph Atick, in an interview with Biometric Update in 2024, explored how identity is a critical layer in building financial inclusion within CEMAC and beyond. So, as cross-border transactions grow with increasingly high volumes of mobile money transactions for example, the next challenge for CEMAC would be how to enable banks, merchants, and regulators to trust who is on the other end of every payment, possibly using a common digital ID. Whether that identity layer emerges through BEAC, GIMAC, national digital ID systems, or the broader AfCFTA digital trade agenda remains an open question. Article topics. Latest biometrics news.
