  • At least 3 years of professional experience in PCBA design and new product introduction (NPI) for safety-critical or aerospace products.

Responsibilities
  • Architect and design printed circuit board assemblies (PCBAs) for high-reliability, mixed-signal, and power-conversion applications up to 900 V DC and high-speed digital buses.
  • Own schematic capture, component selection, and constraint-driven layout using Altium Designer or similar, while enforcing design rules for signal integrity, thermal management, and manufacturability.
  • Perform design reviews, simulations, and worst-case circuit analyses, including signal integrity/power integrity (SI/PI), design failure mode and effects analysis (DFMEA), thermal analysis, and EMC, to meet DO-160, DO-254, and RTCA environmental standards.
  • Lead bring-up and validation testing, author test plans, and write Python, Rust, and C test scripts in collaboration with software engineers.
  • Collaborate daily with mechanical engineers to optimize board outlines and connectors.
  • Improve the electronics development workflow by automating checks, tightening version control, and mentoring junior engineers.
  • Design multiple boards in parallel, coordinate build schedules, and work with software and mechanical teams to deliver integrated subsystems for flight-critical applications.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience certifying electronics for Part 23/25 aircraft or eVTOL platforms.
  • Working knowledge of design assurance processes and standards, including DO-160, DO-254, IPC-2221/2222, and IPC-7351.
  • Knowledge of motor-drive control or battery-management circuitry.

US Sustainable aviation programs get $25m funding boost. The two-year Continuous Lower Energy, Emissions, and Noise (CLEEN) projects are the latest in a series of research programs into sustainable aviation technologies that began in 2010. Previous CLEEN rounds were larger, between US$100m and US$125m, and covered five-year work periods. CLEEN contracts have been given to aircraft manufacturer Boeing, propulsion and systems suppliers GE Aerospace and Honeywell, as well as hybrid-electric aircraft developers JetZero and Heart Aerospace. The funding is matched by the participating companies and will be used to develop technologies that improve fuel efficiency and reduce noise, nitrogen oxide (NOx) and particulate matter emissions. CLEEN funding to fund Heart's HYPER project. Heart Aerospace is to use its funding for a US$5.8m R&D project called Hybrid Propulsion Environmental Readiness (HYPER). The project will develop and test the turbogenerator for the hybrid-electric propulsion system Heart will use to power its ES-36 regional aircraft. Heart, which was founded in Sweden but largely moved its operations to the US in 2025, is targeting entry into service in 2031 with Part 25 certification. The ES-36 is a series hybrid that will use two megawatt-class turbogenerators, powered by commercially available jet turbines, to produce electricity in flight. According to Heart, the approach will extend the aircraft's range from a 125-mile (200km) battery-only range to 745 miles (1,200km). HYPER will begin with ground testing to evaluate how the turbogenerator, batteries and electric motors work together in different operating modes, before progressing to demonstration flights aboard the pre-production ES-36, which is scheduled to make its first flight in 2028. The project will generate data on energy use, fuel burn, emissions and noise to support ES-36 certification and inform the FAA's approach to evaluating and certifying hybrid-electric aircraft more broadly. The CLEEN award follows a US$4.1m grant Heart won in September 2024 from the US government to develop the avionics and software that will control its hybrid-electric propulsion system. Ben Stabler, chief technology officer of Heart Aerospace, said, "The FAA's continued partnership with Heart Aerospace will accelerate development of this key element of the ES-36's disruptive hybrid-electric powertrain. "Together, we are advancing technologies that will help bring to market a new generation of commercial aircraft that use less fuel, produce fewer emissions and make less noise, benefiting passengers, operators and the communities they serve." According to Heart, it has so far secured one order, for up to 100 ES-36s, from US-based charter operator JSX.

The manufacturer will contribute an equal amount, bringing the total investment to US$5.8 million over two years. Announced on October 12, the funding comes under Phase IV of the FAA's Continuous Lower Energy, Emissions, and Noise (CLEEN) program, a public-private initiative supporting aircraft technologies designed to reduce fuel consumption, emissions and noise. The investment will support Project HYPER (Hybrid Propulsion Environmental Readiness), which focuses on developing a megawatt-class turbogenerator for the ES-36's propulsion system. The aircraft will use two electrically driven propellers, each powered by a 1.65-megawatt motor. A turbogenerator installed in each nacelle will produce electricity during flight, allowing the aircraft to operate beyond the range provided by its batteries alone. Turbines generate power instead of driving propellers. Unlike conventional turboprops, the ES-36 will have no mechanical connection between its gas turbines and propellers. Instead, the turbines will generate electricity to supplement battery power during longer flights. Under the FAA-funded program, Heart will initially conduct ground tests to evaluate how the turbogenerators, batteries and electric motors operate together under different conditions. The company then plans to demonstrate the system aboard a preproduction ES-36, which is scheduled to make its first flight in 2028.

AIRSPACE REVIEW - Swedish aerospace company Heart Aerospace has launched a 36-seat hybrid-electric regional passenger aircraft, the world's first in its class. In conjunction with the launch on September 23, 2026, JSX, a semi-private airline in the United States, announced that it has signed a purchase agreement for 50 ES-36 units with an option for an additional 50. The aircraft, named ES-36, is the production version that replaces the previously planned ES-30. Compared to the ES-30, the ES-36 has six more seats and a 20 percent increase in payload capacity, but the number of engines has been reduced from four to two. This design change was made after Heart learned various things during the process of designing, building, and testing the X1 demonstrator aircraft which made its maiden flight on August 13, 2026.
