About the company

General RV Center sells motorhomes and towable campers to travelers across the United States through a network of full-service dealerships. Buyers compare vehicles from multiple manufacturers, trade in an existing camper and shop for parts and accessories in the same place. The business earns money from vehicle and parts sales and repair work, with service departments handling maintenance, appliance repairs and body damage throughout an RV's life. Its selection spans compact travel trailers through larger motorhomes, with online inventory searches letting shoppers browse by vehicle type, brand and price before visiting a store. Founded in 1962, General RV Center is headquartered in Wixom, Michigan.

Simplify's Take

What believers are saying

  • Geographic choice extends beyond Michigan: General RV operates 23 Supercenters across ten states.
  • Retirement contributions supplement pay: General RV's Elizabethtown Service Porter listing includes a 401k with company matching.
  • Revenue extends beyond vehicles: Camp Complete packages third-party service contracts, roadside assistance and tire protection.

What critics are saying

  • Lot work demands equipment skills: Elizabethtown's Service Porter moves RVs and pallets and requires forklift experience.
  • Financed sales depend on outside lenders: General RV arranges loans through banks and credit unions.
  • Repair coverage has limits: General RV explicitly excludes motorhome chassis work from its service menu.

What makes General RV Center unique

  • Quality control has a separate hub: General RV inspects up to 400 components at its Elkhart facility.
  • Urgent repairs get a defined route: Keep You Camping accepts eligible critical issues without appointments during weekday service hours.
  • Ownership spans generations: General RV has a third-generation family owner as CEO and a second-generation owner as chairman.
