About the company

Blank Street operates as a specialty coffee brand focused on small, cost-efficient locations and quick, premium service. It sells high-quality coffee and fresh, locally sourced food in cities like New York, London, Boston, and Washington, D.C. Its product works through a combination of carefully sourced specialty coffees, fast preparation from compact carts or shops, and a technology layer (order ahead, customized drinks, schedule orders, and loyalty through the Blank Street app) to streamline purchasing and reward regular customers. The company differentiates itself by running smaller, lower-overhead outlets to cut costs and pass savings to customers and employees while paying baristas above-market wages, and by leveraging tech to enhance convenience and loyalty. Its goal is to redefine the coffee shop experience by combining quality, affordability, and strong customer service at scale across major cities.

Blank Street UK turnover jumps 71% to $74.8M as operating profit nearly triples

Blank Street UK Limited reported turnover of £58.9 million for the year ended 31 December 2025, up 71% on the prior year. Operating profit increased nearly threefold to £4.6 million from £1.6 million in 2024. Growth was driven by stronger demand at existing stores, particularly from new signature and seasonal drinks across matcha and coffee menus. Matcha continued to boost afternoon sales. The coffee chain opened 12 new stores across London, Edinburgh, Glasgow, and Leeds, bringing its UK total to 50 locations. This expansion doubled the number of UK cities it operates in from three to six. Blank Street plans to continue investing in product quality, innovation, and thoughtfully chosen new stores with premium in-store experiences.

New York's most viral coffee chain is officially coming to Wicker Park.

New York's most viral coffee chain is officially coming to Wicker Park. An empty Starbucks is about to become a Blank space. Tuesday October 6 2026 Chicago's coffee scene is about to get another national chain, because no one has yet reached critical caffeine mass. Blank Street Coffee, the rapidly expanding New York-born chain known for its minimalist cafes, matcha-heavy menu and aggressively Instagrammable drinks, is coming to Wicker Park. The company will apparently take over the former Starbucks space at 1588 N. Milwaukee Ave., according to Crain's. An opening date has not yet been announced. The location is a particularly prominent one, directly across from the Damen CTA Blue Line stop. The space was previously home to a Starbucks Reserve location, so Blank Street has some fairly large coffee-chain shoes to fill. Launched in Brooklyn in 2020 as a tiny coffee cart tucked into the garden of Wythe Diner in Williamsburg, Blank Street has grown to more than 100 locations across the U.S. and U.K., with the company pitching itself as a specialty coffee shop built around convenience, design and highly photogenic beverages. The menu is likely to be one of the biggest draws for Chicago's matcha set, and for those of PahRoo who love a grid-worthy coffee moment during the workday. Blank Street is known for drinks such as its shaken vanilla bean matcha and cinnamon bun latte, alongside more traditional espresso drinks, cold brews and other specialty beverages. The Chicago arrival comes in the wake of the company raising more than $100 million in venture capital this summer, fueling its already rapid expansion, which ha sincluded stores in Boston and Los Angeles. Of course, Blank Street's arrival is already prompting the sort of neighborhood discourse that accompanies any chain moving into Wicker Park. The area is hardly suffering from a coffee shortage, with longtime neighborhood favorites like The Wormhole Coffee and other cafes already clustered around Milwaukee and Damen. Local reaction online has ranged from enthusiasm to boredom, which seems pretty typical for any online reaction these days. Still, there's something to be said about more options. If nothing else, at least PahRoo all know where to get a good matcha in the near future. Been there, done that? Think again, my friend.

Published Date: September 25, 2026, 3:52 PM EDT Blank Street Coffee's fall 2026 menu features seasonal favorites like the Cinnamon Bun and Harvest Chai lattes and matcha. (Image credit: Blank Street Coffee / Facebook) A fast-growing coffee chain known for its specialty coffee, creative matcha, and instantly recognizable mint-green aesthetic is adding another Boston outpost to its portfolio. Brooklyn-based Blank Street Coffee is opening a new location at 874 Commonwealth Avenue on Boston University's West Campus, according to The Daily Free Press. Signage recently appeared in the windows of the vacant storefront, which sits between Chipotle and Taco Bell. Founded by Issam Freiha and Vinay Menda in 2020, Blank Street got its start as a small coffee cart in the garden of Wythe Diner in Brooklyn's Williamsburg neighborhood. The brand has since grown into a national coffee chain with more than 100 locations across the United States and United Kingdom, including shops in New York, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, Washington, D.C., and California. Blank Street has become known for its colorful, often seasonal takes on classic coffeehouse favorites, particularly its flavored matcha and espresso drinks. Its compact stores are designed around quick, grab-and-go service, and the company places an emphasis on beverage presentation, ingredient sourcing, and thoughtfully designed spaces. "For a lot of us, getting a coffee or matcha is the most important part of the day," reads the company's website. "It's a moment of respite, a tonesetter, a break with friends. At Blank Street, we believe this moment, however brief it may be, should feel extraordinary. We are continuously seeking to raise the bar on quality, design, and experience. Every choice we make, from each individual store's design, to ingredient sourcing, to our beverage presentation, and our Insiders program, is in service of creating an experience for our customers that is worth traveling for day after day." At the new Commonwealth Avenue location, customers can expect Blank Street's familiar lineup of espresso drinks alongside its rotating selection of seasonal beverages. The fall 2026 menu, for example, includes Cinnamon Bun and Harvest Chai lattes and matcha. The shop also offers a small selection of pastries, such as banana bread and almond croissants. Once open, the Boston University location will join 11 other Blank Street shops across Massachusetts. The company already has locations in Boston's Back Bay, Downtown Crossing, Allston, and The Hub on Causeway, as well as in Wellesley, Brookline, South Boston, and Cambridge. Blank Street Coffee has not yet responded to What Now Boston's requests for comment, and an official opening date for the new Commonwealth Avenue café has not been announced. Love our content? BREAKING: Blank Street to open new location on Comm. Ave.

BREAKING: Blank Street to open new location on Comm. Ave. By Daniela Ginsburg, Associate Campus Editor - September 21, 2026 A sign for Blank Street on 874 Commonwealth Ave. Blank Street will open a new location in Massachusetts on BU's West Campus. Blank Street, a New-York-based coffee chain, will open its next Massachusetts location on Boston University's West Campus, but students offered mixed reactions upon hearing the news. A Blank Street sign was put on the window of the vacant storefront on 874 Commonwealth Ave., between the Chipotle and Taco Bell Monday morning. BU senior Astrid Newton said she thinks it will provide a good on-campus study spot. "Always down for new coffee spots opening in Boston and more places to study and chill with friends," Newton said. The new location will be at the former site of West Campus' Starbucks, which closed as part of the company's "Back to Starbucks" turnaround plan, an effort to "streamline and rebrand" the company. Blank Street has not announced when the cafe will officially open. Blank Street did not provide comment at the time of publication. Newton said she believes the new cafe will help maintain the "Boston charm," unlike other bigger corporate chains. However, she said she is not a fan of Blank Street's menu and prefers a classic, consistent coffee. BU senior Ava Restivo said she's "very excited" for the new Blank Street on campus. Restivo said she was "upset" that smaller coffee shop chains, such as Fuel America, have closed down near West Campus, and she said she would prefer if a smaller business took Starbucks' place instead. BU junior Sophia Lu said she thinks Blank Street's coffee is "subpar" but is hopeful that the new location will provide another communal space for students. "My only expectation would be that there's more seats because I know that the other Blank Street is always so crowded and it's always so hard to get a seat," Lu said. BU junior Prapti Agarwal said she does not see Blank Street becoming a reliable study spot for students. Agarwal said that Blank Street, as a recognizable international brand, offers a "sense of familiarity" to students, but prefers smaller, locally-owned coffee shops because they have "more character." She said the "slower" environment makes them a better spot for students to study and hang out in. "I feel like Blank Street is always just so crowded and so it's a very hustling kind of coffee shop," Agarwal said. "Not a lot of people... would actually sit and study there."
