Mastercard backs Orbi's crypto card in Mexico, but $666.71 fair value implies only 12% upside

In early October 2026, SoFi Tech Solutions, Orbi and Mastercard launched a crypto-linked card programme in Mexico. Orbi customers can spend fiat or crypto balances through real-time conversion, while merchants are paid in traditional currency. The card runs on Mastercard's Mexico Domestic Switch network for purchases and ATM withdrawals. Orbi is the first crypto-focused client of SoFi Tech Solutions' Mastercard BIN sponsorship programme in Mexico. The deal also sets up future stablecoin-powered remittances and payments over Mastercard's network. The move shows Mastercard weaving digital assets into existing payment rails rather than bypassing them. Its narrative projects $49.9 billion in revenue and $23.3 billion in earnings by 2029, up from $16.3 billion today.

ArmadilloPay wins Central Bank of Ireland e-money licence and closes oversubscribed $2.2M seed round

Dublin-based fintech ArmadilloPay has won an e-money institution licence from the Central Bank of Ireland. The licence lets it issue e-money and provide regulated payment services. The company also said its €2 million seed round was oversubscribed, with backing from Enterprise Ireland and Mastercard. Founded four years ago by Rob Anderson and Liam Sheehan, ArmadilloPay has hired former senior executives from Monavate, Bunq, and PayPal. It will now take its single Application Programming Interface (API) to market, targeting high-volume, low-value international payments such as travel disruption payouts and gig economy disbursements. Anderson, the chief executive officer, said such payments are traditionally underserved and heavy on compliance.

Mastercard readies for rogue AI agents spending money, keeping humans in the loop

Mastercard is preparing for the risk that AI agents with spending power go rogue, as the technology moves beyond assisting users to buying on their behalf. Its Agent Pay technology lets consumers instruct an AI assistant to, say, buy tickets within a set budget. Agent Pay for Machines lets autonomous systems transact with one another within defined parameters. President and chief technology officer Ed McLaughlin said the key is knowing which agent is buying, who permitted it, and what it may purchase. "Part of it is bringing humans back into the loop," he said. "So even if the agent goes rogue and tries to do something, you can say no." He expects agentic commerce to follow online shopping and mobile payments, which faced early scepticism. Mastercard's network spans 3.7 billion accounts worldwide.
