Requirements
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Medical Assistant certification must be obtained within 6 months of hire.
  • For New Jersey applicants, graduation from an accredited post-secondary medical assisting education program with at least 330 hours of instruction, including training in intramuscular and subcutaneous injections, is required.
  • Basic Life Support certification through the American Heart Association must be obtained within 90 days of hire; Basic Life Support certification through the American Red Cross may be acceptable at some Pennsylvania practice locations.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of medical terminology and familiarity with medical office procedures.
  • Ability to perform the physical demands of the role, including lifting and carrying 25 pounds, frequent sitting and standing, frequent keyboard use, and patient-care activities such as kneeling, bending, squatting, and performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
  • Ability to use and document information technology systems within the established scope of practice.
  • Ability to perform electrocardiograms, venipuncture, injections, vital-sign measurement, and related clinical procedures.
  • Knowledge of Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act privacy and security requirements.
Responsibilities
  • Assist physicians as they assess, examine, and treat patients.
  • Manage patient flow and act as a liaison to physicians to support patient satisfaction.
  • Interact with co-workers, visitors, and other staff consistently with Jefferson's values.
  • Escort patients to exam rooms and ensure proper patient identification.
  • Perform and document vital signs, clinical care quality measures, and medical history information.
  • Assist physicians with examinations and diagnostic procedures, including electrocardiograms, venipuncture, and injections, using appropriate clinical skills.
  • Maintain proficiency in the use and documentation requirements of information technology systems.
  • Adhere to Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act privacy and security requirements.
  • Order clinical supplies, maintain inventory, and facilitate smooth office operations.
