Requirements
  • Experience with practice management systems.
  • Office automation skills.
  • Extensive knowledge of Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) and International Classification of Diseases, Tenth Revision (ICD-10) coding and insurance reimbursement.
  • Strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills.
  • Good organizational skills.
  • Commitment to and demonstration of excellent customer service when dealing with all types of customers.
  • High school graduation.
  • One year of technical college or certification is preferred.
  • Three years of experience in a physician's office with medical billing experience may be accepted in lieu of formal training.
Responsibilities
  • Answer phones, route calls, and take accurate messages while demonstrating urgency according to the patient's level of distress.
  • Triage basic patient care needs and generate a telephone encounter depending on the situation.
  • Manage patient appointment scheduling.
  • Register new patients and maintain accurate, up-to-date demographic and insurance information for all patients.
  • Perform duties according to policies and regulations concerning privacy notification, Medicare secondary coverage, signed demographic registrations, consent to treat minors, and MSPQ.
  • Identify barriers to communication.
  • Verify insurance eligibility and scan insurance cards and photo identification.
  • Check patients in and out for visits appropriately.
  • Use ICD-10 and CPT codes accurately and appropriately.
  • Post payments accurately according to policy.
  • Reconcile all financial data correctly and in compliance with clinic policy at the end of each day and month.
