About the company

Polymarket operates a decentralized prediction market where users trade crypto against outcomes of real-world events, from elections to sports. Bets are placed by buying and selling shares tied to event results; outcomes are resolved by decentralized oracles and rewards are paid in cryptocurrency. The platform blends a familiar trading interface with blockchain-based transparency and immutability, and it now operates in the U.S. through the acquisition of QCX, a CFTC-licensed exchange. Its goal is to offer hedging and speculative opportunities on real-world events while combining crowd-sourced forecasting with regulated crypto trading in the United States.

Over $600 million in Polymarket election trades took place after races ended.

Over $600 million in Polymarket election trades took place after races ended. Prediction market boosters often tout the platforms as barometers of public opinion, or even "truth machines" offering a clearer picture of where things are headed than polling or other data. In 2024, for example, Kalshi beat many pollsters in forecasting the outcome of the US presidential race. But their trading activity can also tell more perplexing stories. Two global election markets on Polymarket's offshore platform, for instance, generated over $600 million in trading volume, far more than most political markets typically attract. Most of the activity took place buying and selling contracts tied to long-shot candidates who ultimately did not win. This summer, Ethiopian prime minister Abiy Ahmed's Prosperity Party cruised to victory in federal elections, winning 438 parliamentary seats and paving the way for him to serve another five-year term. The closest competitor won 13 seats. On prediction markets, trading volume - the total value of contracts bought and sold - typically tracks roughly with the odds of a given outcome; frontrunners attract far more volume than long shots. But in this case, the trading patterns deviated sharply from the norm. Just $173,000 was wagered on Ahmed winning, compared to more than $41 million traded on his chief of staff, Shimelis Abdisa, becoming the country's next leader. Altogether, the volume traded added up to over $285 million, nearly all on losing candidates. Even odder? "Nearly all of it - about $284 million - came from pairs of accounts repeatedly buying and selling with each other," says former Polymarket trader Chris Park, who now runs the prediction-market forensic analysis firm MSR Decode. Such a high volume of seemingly pointless back-and-forth transactions has raised eyebrows among experts. "It's obviously some form of volume manipulation," says Rajiv Sethi, a Barnard College economics professor who researches prediction markets. When asked about these markets, Shana Bautista, Polymarket's head of global intelligence and investigations, told WIRED that the team "immediately flagged this activity, investigated, and blocked the accounts from trading." Polymarket did not respond to follow-up questions about why the accounts were able to trade such a high amount of volume before it took action. The timing of these trades made things even weirder. Polymarket's rules stipulated that the Ethiopia market would be resolved in October after the prime minister was formally appointed and sworn in, which meant that it stayed open for several months after Ahmed's victory was all but a foregone conclusion. For 123 days after the election, bursts of seemingly irrational trading continued, prompting Polymarket users to leave comments like "THIS NOT RESOLVED?" and "fuckkkk."

Polymarket token and airdrop: Shane Coplan Fuels rumors.

Polymarket token and airdrop: Shane Coplan Fuels rumors. Polymarket CEO Shane Coplan reignited rumors of a native token during the TOKEN2049 conference in Singapore. During the discussion, he mentioned a possible on-chain asset with programmable utility integrated into the platform's economy. This announcement gave new impetus to discussions surrounding the Polymarket token and a potential airdrop. Koplan participated in a fireside session with Balaji Srinivasan. The discussion centered on an asset that could perform certain functions within the Polymarket financial ecosystem. However, Koplan did not elaborate on its operating mechanisms, did not confirm that current users would receive tokens, or provide a launch date. Polymarket CEO Renews Token Hints, Fuels Airdrop Speculation Polymarket CEO Shayne Coplan has again hinted at a potential token launch, fueling speculation over a possible airdrop as more crypto startups turn to equity financing. At the time, Koplan hinted that this topic might be raised at TOKEN2049. Polymarket token and airdrop plan. To date, Koplan has not yet provided details regarding ownership, revenue distribution, or management privileges for the proposed asset. Polymarket has not officially confirmed a token generation event (TGE) or airdrop, but the lack of official details leaves ample room for speculation regarding the launch parameters, allocations, and participation criteria. The platform's international prediction markets continue to operate without its own cryptocurrency, so the token launch will be a crucial step in the project's development. The platform covers political, economic, and other real-world events - from geopolitical contracts to elections. A native token could add a new layer to the platform's growing ecosystem, and a potential airdrop would be a way to reward early adopters if Polymarket decides to distribute assets to the community. Management's previous hints have fueled audience interest, fueling the belief that Polymarket will eventually launch a token. Should this scenario materialize, trading activity, market participation, and the platform's eligibility rules could be key factors in user qualification. JUST IN: JPMorgan had cut Polymarket's bank accounts in October, but still wants a role in its potential $20 BILLION IPO. Polymarket initiates testing of comprehensive smart contract system upgrade.

Polymarket initiates testing of comprehensive smart contract system upgrade. October 7, 2026 The Currency Analytics general Positive Polymarket, the leading decentralized prediction market platform, is now actively testing a brand-new smart contract system in what represents one of the most significant technical upgrades in the protocol's history. The comprehensive overhaul targets the core infrastructure that powers billions of dollars in event-driven trading volume, with implications for smart contract security, gas efficiency, and overall platform scalability. As decentralized prediction markets gain mainstream attention - particularly following Polymarket's record-breaking engagement during the 2024 U.S. presidential election cycle - this upgrade arrives at a critical moment when user demand and contract complexity are at all-time highs. A robust smart contract upgrade on Polymarket could directly improve user experience, reduce transaction costs on the Polygon network, and fortify the protocol against potential exploits that have plagued other DeFi platforms. Traders and developers following decentralized betting platforms, blockchain prediction markets, and DeFi smart contract security will want to monitor this rollout closely. The timing also reflects a broader industry trend of established DeFi protocols conducting major technical overhauls to support institutional-grade reliability and expanded market offerings. Watch for Polymarket's official announcement of a mainnet deployment date and any changes to market creation mechanics or liquidity structures that could signal the platform's next phase of growth. Polymarket is testing a brand-new smart contract system.

Polymarket sets November V2 move, but testing comes first.

Polymarket sets November V2 move, but testing comes first. Polymarket begins Protocol V2 testing with pUSD, four market types, oracle tools, and cross-chain support before November rollout. Tldr. Table of Contents * Polymarket has started canary testing for its rebuilt Protocol V2 system. * The platform tentatively plans to move new markets to V2 on November 2. * V2 supports four market types and introduces pUSD as collateral. * The OracleAggregator can connect markets with UMA, Chainlink, and other data sources. * Six security firms audited the protocol, while its critical bug bounty reaches $5 million. Polymarket has started canary markets on Protocol V2, a rebuilt smart-contract system for prediction markets. Protocol lead Rajath Alex said Polymarket will continue testing through October 30. The platform tentatively plans to move new markets to V2 on November 2. Polymarket tests new market system. Protocol V2 replaces the Conditional Tokens Framework, which dates to 2019. The setup uses one ERC-1155 contract to manage positions. It also uses pUSD as collateral, exchanges for market types, and a router for transactions. The first version supports Binary, Atomic Neg-risk, Incremental Neg-risk, and Combinatorial markets. Polymarket added an OracleAggregator that can use UMA, Chainlink, and other data sources. CFTC prediction-market rule proposals have kept attention on how event contracts operate in the United States. The system includes tools for moving positions, collateral, and market results across blockchains. Polymarket has not activated those features yet. The company plans to use them when it expands beyond its current network. Polymarket is launching Data API V2 with the contract upgrade. The Rust-based service uses the company's own onchain indexer to organize market data. The change gives developers a new data layer for the V2 rollout. Polymarket odds on a possible October rate hike showed how traders use the platform for economic events. The new protocol aims to support more market structures while keeping the contract system simpler than the current setup. Security reviews cover Protocol V2. Six security firms reviewed the V2 code before migration. Cantina, Certora, Quantstamp, SigmaPrime, Zellic, and Pashov completed audits. Certora also used formal verification to check the code against defined rules. Polymarket offers a bug bounty of up to $5 million for critical findings. The program rewards security researchers who report serious flaws before wider use. The upgrade arrives as Polymarket adds senior staff and expands its protocol team. Rajath Alex joined in May. The company later hired Bird founder Travis VanderZanden as chief growth officer. A trader's return to Polymarket for a Trump AI wager also drew attention last week. Separately, reports say the company is discussing a $1 billion funding round at a $21 billion post-money valuation. The canary period gives Polymarket time to test V2 under real market conditions before the planned switch. The November 2 date remains tentative, and the company can adjust the schedule based on testing results. Limited Time Offer Get 3 free stock ebooks. Polymarket rolls out V2 upgrade with single ERC-1155 positions contract, pUSD collateral.

Polymarket rolls out V2 upgrade with single ERC-1155 positions contract, pUSD collateral. Polymarket is testing a rebuilt smart-contract system with four market types and new oracle infrastructure. Business - October 6, 2026, 10:35AM EDT Quick take. * The new protocol supports four market types and consolidates positions, pUSD collateral, exchanges, and routing into a redesigned architecture. Polymarket has begun running production canary markets on a rebuilt smart-contract system that will replace the Conditional Tokens Framework for new markets, protocol lead Rajath Alex announced on Monday. Dubbed Protocol V2, the upgrade replaces the 2019 Gnosis-based framework with a single ERC-1155 positions contract, pUSD as collateral, one exchange for each market type, and a router. The redesign aims to reduce the layers of contracts that have been added as the platform introduced new market types, Alex said in an X post. According to the post, V2 will initially cover four market types, including Binary, Atomic Neg-risk, Incremental Neg-risk, and Combinatorial. Polymarket is introducing an OracleAggregator that can plug into UMA, Chainlink, and other data sources to resolve those markets. The upgraded protocol also has provisions for moving positions, collateral, and resolutions across chains, a feature Polymarket says it will activate when it expands beyond its current network. Alex said the canary markets will run through Oct. 30, with a tentative switch to Protocol V2 for net-new markets on Nov. 2. The company is also rolling out Data API V2, a Rust service built around its in-house onchain indexer. The upgrade comes as Polymarket has been adding senior talent and building out its protocol team amid expansion. Alex joined in May, nearly three months before the company hired Travis VanderZanden, the founder of Bird and a former Uber and Lyft executive, as chief growth officer. The company is also in talks to raise $1 billion at a $21 billion post-money valuation, with venture firm 1789 Capital set to contribute about $300 million, Bloomberg reported. Polymarket said the V2 code has undergone audits by Cantina, Certora, Quantstamp, SigmaPrime, Zellic, and Pashov, with Certora also formally verifying the code. Its bug bounty offers up to $5 million for critical findings.
