About the company

QuantWare designs, fabricates, and sells superconducting quantum processors (QPUs) to quantum computing companies, research institutes, and tech groups worldwide, acting as a hardware supplier for the quantum ecosystem. Its QPUs use the VIO 3D integration architecture, which routes control signals vertically to overcome wiring bottlenecks and scale to thousands of qubits, with products like Soprano and Contralto and a roadmap to the VIO-40K up to 10,000 qubits. The company concentrates on QPU hardware only, enabling other players to build complete quantum systems without making their own processors, and is building a large‑volume fabrication path through KiloFab. QuantWare’s goal is to accelerate the arrival of useful quantum computing by expanding manufacturing capacity and making high‑quality quantum processors broadly available.

What believers are saying

  • May 2026 Series B raised $178 million from Intel Capital and IQT.
  • QuantWare shipped to 50-plus customers across 20 countries by August 2026.
  • VIO-40K and KiloFab created a 2026 product-and-factory roadmap customers can pre-order.

What critics are saying

  • Rigetti, IQM, and Seeqc intensify competition for merchant superconducting chip customers.
  • VIO-40K deliveries slip until 2028, exposing QuantWare to funding and credibility pressure.
  • If KiloFab misses 20x capacity targets, QuantWare becomes a softwareless fab-cost sink.

What makes QuantWare unique

  • QuantWare sells merchant QPUs, unlike IBM and Google’s internal-only chip programs.
  • VIO routes wiring vertically, attacking superconducting scaling bottlenecks directly.
  • KiloFab aims for open-architecture QPU manufacturing, not closed-system vertical integration.

FirstQFM model cuts quantum gate times 33% on QuantWare processor using NVIDIA computing

Stockholm-based FirstQFM said its quantum foundation model produced single-qubit gates with 33% shorter execution times while preserving fidelity. The results were validated using randomized benchmarking on a QuantWare Contralto-D21 processor at the Israeli Quantum Computing Center. The model built custom gate implementations from existing calibration data supplied by Quantum Machines' calibration stack. It needed no extra quantum hardware time, shifting optimisation work from scarce processor time to classical compute. The model also found improvements for five qubit pairs, which showed higher Bell-state fidelity in independent hardware runs. FirstQFM developed the model using NVIDIA accelerated computing, including the Leonardo supercomputer and the CUDA-Q platform. It plans to add optimisations for the 21-qubit device and scale up for QuantWare's larger processors.

QuantWare names Bart Filius CFO after $178M Series B to scale quantum processor production

QuantWare has appointed Bart Filius as Chief Financial Officer and added him to its board. The Delft-based quantum processor maker announced the hire as it expands production following a $178 million Series B round, described as the largest private funding for a dedicated quantum processor company. Filius joins from Galapagos, where he spent nearly nine years in senior roles including CFO, COO and president. He previously oversaw the company's Nasdaq IPO and led negotiations on a $5 billion research collaboration with Gilead. Before that, he spent 13 years at Sanofi. At QuantWare, Filius will oversee finance as the company builds KiloFab, an industrial-scale fabrication facility in the Netherlands. The company now serves over 50 customers across 20 countries. QuantWare was founded in 2021 as a spinout from QuTech at TU Delft.

Intel Capital, IQT join QuantWare's $178M Series B to build industrial-scale quantum chips

QuantWare, a Delft-based quantum processor company, has raised $178 million in a Series B round, the largest ever for a dedicated quantum processor firm. Intel Capital and IQT joined as new investors, alongside existing backers including FORWARD.one and Invest-NL Deep Tech Fund. Founded in 2021, QuantWare designs and sells quantum processing units and has shipped to over 50 customers across 20 countries, making it the largest commercial QPU supplier by volume. Unlike IBM or Google, which build chips exclusively for their own systems, QuantWare operates as a neutral supplier. The company uses modular chiplet designs and plans to build the world's largest dedicated quantum chip factory, increasing production capacity twentyfold. The funding will support development of processors 10 times larger than current market offerings.
