Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree or higher in recreational therapy, or a related field with required coursework, from an accredited program is required.
  • Certification from the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification as a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist is required.
  • Candidates must be at least 21 years old to meet licensure requirements.
  • A valid Indiana driver's license and a driving record meeting Damar's insurance eligibility requirements are required for positions requiring driving.
  • Candidates must be clear of felony convictions, substantiated charges of neglect, and other disqualifying criminal convictions.
  • Candidates must successfully complete a pre-employment physical.
  • Candidates must favorably meet and maintain Damar's background screening.
Responsibilities
  • Attend mandatory staff meetings and other assigned meetings.
  • Provide comprehensive recreational therapy assessments and treatment plans for each client served.
  • Conduct regular home, community, or clinic-based individual and group recreational therapy sessions for assigned clients.
  • Consult and collaborate with families and team members to support client needs.
  • Plan group-session programming in collaboration with team members.
  • Interact with clients while demonstrating respect, acknowledging their rights, and preserving their dignity.
  • Keep current with treatment technology, literature, practices, and regulations.
  • Maintain assigned facilities and work areas.
  • Use materials, equipment, and staff efficiently and effectively.
  • Safeguard Damar and client finances.
  • Identify solutions to improve stakeholder satisfaction.
  • Prioritize duties consistently with organizational objectives and growth.
  • Document recreational therapy services through daily notes and monthly reports.
  • Submit assessments, treatment plans, and monthly notes according to recreational therapy policy.
  • Maintain the prescribed level of productivity.
  • Follow the Employee Handbook and Damar operational policies and procedures.
  • Complete and update mandatory training and certification-related items in a timely manner.
  • Maintain accurate and legible documentation.
  • Complete incident reports within 24 hours of learning of an incident, including suspected client exploitation, abuse, or neglect.
  • Complete daily utilization reports within 24 hours of service.
Desired Qualifications
  • Directly relevant applied experience in recreational therapy and working with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities is preferred but not required.
